: 10secvette enlighten us
cvp33 01-18-2004, 10:26 PM 10secvette,
Since we share the same basic driveline, engine, trans and rear, I'm interested in hearing how you get IRS to 'hook'. Most guys complain of wheel hop. What can be done to eliminate that? Certainly you've got to be laying down some serious 60' times to clear 10 secs, so you must have traction. What's your secret?
monaroCountry 01-18-2004, 11:45 PM HIS SECRET?
1) Brush teeth
2) goes to bed
3) turns off light
4) goes to sleep
= deam about a 10 sec vette.
he then wakes up and brag about his races and his car to us here in newage.
Orbit Orange 01-19-2004, 12:10 AM easy Monarocountry it will be OK
I'm not trying to defend 10sec at all, but remember that stuff needs to be kept in the Asylum. I'd hate to move the thread as cvp33 has a valid question. Let's see if there can be a valid answer.
Remember I'm not siding with him just trying to keep threads in their proper areas.
I understand your frustration though. I usually read all those posts just to keep tabs on things. With that said your post did give me a laugh.
:)

I run 26x11.5x16 e.t. street. I can cut a consistent 1.67 60ft. with a SS3800 stall, I load the TC to 2k on a poorly prepared track on the motor. Good for mid 11's.
On a 100 shot, hitting the bottle off the line, my 60ft. is in the low 1.5's for mid 10's.
The e.t. streets are a nice tire, a nice 6 second burnout and they are ready to go. I have never had an issue with wheel hop. The car squats, hooks and goes. With a well prepped track, those 60ft's. should drop another 10th or so.
monaroCountry 01-19-2004, 02:43 PM sorry 10secvette and everyone I offended. Ill try to control myself. I dont live in the states so really have no excuse for my little outbursts but myself. Again sorry.
Tails 01-19-2004, 02:52 PM If you had made that same comment of me or CVP33 or someone like that we would just laugh along with everyone else.

cvp33 01-19-2004, 09:25 PM 10sv,
So the IRS can grip out of the hole. This is contrary to what I thought but good news. Can I also assume that the stock IRS setup can handle the 500+ HP and god knows what torque it takes to push a vette to 10 sec passes? Or have you upgraded the setup? Please advise.
I'm looking at heads, cam, headers, etc. Don't expect to be over 425 as I would like to have vacuum, idle and acceptable gas mileage, etc. Mine is also an M6 so I imagine a Z06 clutch will be in order as well.

The stock IRs on a vette can handle it but it is pushing it. I don't know how beefy the Goat's rear end is. A few good launches at a sticky track should tell the story. My only upgrade to the rear end was going from 2.73's to stock 6 spd. 3.42's. Once I finish my 408 and lunch the 3.42's, I'll be upgrading to the hardened output shaft.
If your going to do the clutch, spend your money once go with a SPEC clutch. All the feedback I have read is outstanding. Who's heads are you looking at?
cvp33 01-19-2004, 11:10 PM Heads, leaning towards Patriot mostly. Most are quoting strong numbers with cam and those.

Talk to Terry at Patriot.
cvp33 01-20-2004, 07:56 PM Yeah, that's what I hear.
Tails 01-20-2004, 10:02 PM CVP33 two more and you are extreme!!!

cvp33 01-20-2004, 10:14 PM I've been extreme for a long time. Who the hell else would order a car on July 22nd, put down a deposit and still be waiting mid-January! Extreme, hell I'm certifiable.
GTO plan:
1) Break in miles 500
2) Try to kill it for 6 months. If I still love it, let the mods begin. (honestly though I will probably have my mind made up within 2 weeks)
3) Mods: 18" wheels, Elect. cut-outs, LT Headers, Patriot Stage II heads, Cam (just enough bump to wiggle a little at idle), underdrive pulleys, electric water pump, CAI, edit/tune.
4) Maybe's: exhaust (would have to be pretty compelling for me to change), 4.10's (had them in my Z but hated them for everyday, then again it was an A4)
Did I miss anything?

QTP for the cutouts, had mine for two years and no problems at all.(worth 2/10's) Anyone making LT's yet, a must though for heads/cam. Give Shaner a call for a ported and polished T/B. I picked up almost 2/10's with it. I would save the $400+500 on the water pump. Do a 180 t stat and turn the fans on sooner via your dyno tune. My experiance with the 160 t stat on a dailly driver is the oil never gets hot enough.....No need to change exhaust with the cutouts. 4.10's are a must with a 6 speed car. They make the car so much easier to drive and 6th gear becomes usefull. They will certainly help overcome the cars heft. Do the gears with the head and cam so they can tune it all together. You'll save $$ on a retune.
cvp33 01-22-2004, 07:35 PM 10sv,
Thanks for the advice. Are you running 4.10's, if so, what kind of rpm's am I looking at on the highway. Say 75 to 85 mph?

I have 3.42's in an A/4.
It's been awhile but, if memory serves, 80 mph with a M/6 and 4.10's were in the 2,350 rpm range. It's over 2,200 and under 2,500 rpm. I turn 2,500 rpm now with my current setup and still see 24 mpg on the highway at a steady 80 mph.
