STUPID Fast (and that's a good thing!) Just took delivery Jan 20th - pre-ordered the first day it opened in June 03. Still have not seen one on the streets here in Metro Detroit, other than mine. (and that's a good thing - I have a serious"first-on-my-block" syndrome!)
It drives great, other than more than just a little bit of wheel hop if you don't punch the line just right. of course, it's been about 10 degrees F here. The hop might improve when things (such as the TIRES) warm up, otherwise a more performance oriented set of tires may be in order.
Let Downs...if any: Had some shipping scratches on the rear bumper - dealer had to repaint the bumper delaying delivery by about 3 days. A mechanical release for the seats for rear seat entry where they just slide forward would be better than the agonizingly slow motorized system. Steering wheel stereo control buttons are not lit. These are pretty small things - it really is a great car!
Your Production Series: me too, what's this mean?
Odometer: 13 miles when I got it - driving all over town shoing it off - up to about 200mi after 3 days of driving
Howie 01-23-2004, 11:48 AM Color: Yellow Jacket
Trans: Manual
Dealer: David Chevy/Pontiac
Odometer at delivery: 12 miles
1st impressions: Gobs of torque! Very quick out of the hole, I've broke the tires loose in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Very quite at speed on the interstate. Exhaust for a stock system sounds great.
Let downs: As stated before, getting the front seats to recline and move forward to gain access to the rear takes forever. Traction control works great but can be a little too aggresive at times, it's easily fixed though just turn it off! Biggest let down by far is the gauging or lack of. I still can't believe a "performance muscle" car doesn't have an oil pressure gauge or volt meter. The volt meter would have been nice when I picked the car up and the battery was shot. It was so dead, it had to be replaced.
Also despite all of the negativity on the web, I have yet to have someone say they didn't like it. I even took it to the Phoenix area GTOAA meeting on Wed and everyone there loved it. Of course lots of people say it needs a hood, but no one has talked bad about the car and everyone is just glad to see GM making a V-8, RWD coupe again!

babyeagle 04-21-2004, 12:24 AM Color: Impulse Blue with the blue/black interior seating
Transmission: 6-speed manual
Dealer: Greiner Pontiac
Purchase Date: 1/15/04
Initial Mileage: Just what I put on it in the test drive.
First Impressions: FAST!!!! Cool looking on the inside.
Beautiful custom-chromed wheels. FAST!!! :dribble:
Let Downs:
1) The ABS braking system is fraught with problems.
2) The low beam headlights don't go out nearly far enough
for a car that is supposed to be going fast! :(
3) The back seat is a pain in the rear to get into.
4) I hope the car won't explode if it gets rear-ended with
that tank in the back light that. :o
5) You can hardly see out that little triangle of a window
when you look back over your left shoulder to see if
it is safe to change lanes.
6) The door is stinking heavy to open, especially on a hill.
7) You have to reach over your shoulder to lock and unlock the
door. Why no automatic door lock?
8) The horn doesn't sound when you hit the lock button on the
key. I sometimes have to go back and look to make sure
it is locked.
9) Not enough trunk space.
10) Not enough headroom. I've konked by head several times
already getting in.
11) Not enough subwoofer and bass in the stereo. It is not
even as good a sound as the system in the Grand Am,
except for the fact that it has a 6-CD changer.
Anything else? I am, overall, disappointed. :(

Game Girl 06-23-2004, 12:24 AM Phantom Black M6
Portland, OR
First Impression: Test drove it and bought it same day, June 16th. I love this car! So much fun to drive. My husband has a 500 HP (heavily mod-ed) WRX and it's very different than that. His car is very 'boy-racer' with lots of immediate punch. My GTO has smooooth power delivery--it just pulls and pulls and has a great feel in any gear.
I bought it last Friday (it's Tuesday) and have almost 500 miles. I broke it in along the Oregon coast on mainly smaller roads. Favorite road: Route 53 between Hamlet and Wheeler! It's all s-curves for what.. 20 miles? I had to go back and forth on it three times :D If you're ever on the northish Oregon coast, you've got to try it!
Not really let downs, but...it's true that getting in and out of the backseat isn't easy. I took guy friends for test rides and they weren't thrilled about getting in there, but once they were in they were fine. (Of course, they wanted to ride anyway ;) )
It's also true that seeing out the back window is hard. Guess you just have to be extra careful. My other complaint is that it has a solenoid that forces you to shift from 1st to 4th if you're puttering along and you try to shift from 1st to 2nd when you're btwn 15-19 mph (? don't quote me on that, not sure of the _exact_ numbers). Thankfully, this can be overridden in the software, so problem taken care of ;)
Pricing: I couldn't get GMS price, but I understand and don't mind. I happily paid MSRP (33,190) and had this option at two different dealerships.
People who are waiting for 50 more HP in 05: There are tons of ways to mod the LS1. I already have software to retune the ECU on its way, around $200. You can get an better exhaust for around $400.
Aside from the fact that it's got a great a Corvette engine, the Holden Mondero (Australian GTO, basically) has been around for about five years and is already a popular and much-driven sports car, with tons of aftermarket parts available at reasonable prices.
Any other PDX GTOs around? I haven't seen any yet!

Sounds like you're having fun with it. :D I have to wait for the '05 because I don't leave Guam untill December. :( But when my wife and I arrive in Detroit my father will be picking us up at the airport in it. Can't wait! :woot:
What is a PDX GTO?
Game Girl 06-23-2004, 01:51 AM What is a PDX GTO?
PDX is the airport code for Portland, OR. I was wondering if any GTO owners from Portland were reading this :)
Also, I've seen many posts about the 05 GTO getting an LS2, but I can't really confirm it myself from a GM site. However, I believe there is only one production line for the LS1 motor so the chances of the GTO getting it are very high. My main gist is that it's not necessary to wait to get more HP :D (though you may have to wait until you're back in the country!)
It may also be possible to get parts from the new LS2 that can be used in the current GTO engine. It's not uncommon in the Subaru mod-world for WRX owners to put in an STI 2.5L block.
04GOATGERM 06-23-2004, 02:07 AM Well, hopefully the '05 gets the LS2...there has been PLENTY of speculation. I am going to mod the engine the 1st month I get it. :D
Sorry for getting off the topic people.
Orbit Orange 06-23-2004, 10:58 AM Guys, the 2005 GTO WILL have the LS2 engine.
It has been confirmed on the GM Media website. A slip up let the information out and the info was removed. We have been instructed not to post this information on the site as it has been embargoed until August 1st.
I have the information on file. I just can't post it. Sorry this information cannot be shared but many have seen it. Unless GM makes some drastic change in plan the LS2 is a GO for 2005.
It's a done deal. :)

babyeagle 06-25-2004, 12:23 AM Well....after some let downs at first (see previous post),
I am liking it more and more!!! :P
At first, I thought I was going to be having it in the shop
perpetually, but I am much more hopeful now. B)
They actually redesigned the wiring harness for the ABS brakes
and installed it. Now (thank heaven) the ABS brake system
seems to be working fine and I haven't had any more problems
with it.
Lovin' the goat, actually.
I especially love all the looks and pointing. :D :D
Double-cool.
Gaijin 06-25-2004, 01:39 AM Congrats to all our new owners/members. Now go out and take a drive!!
