Just wondering which way people have been going with these. I know alot of people like to chose their own gears while others would rather sit back, relax and let the car take care of it (nothing wrong with that :) ). Years ago I would look at an automatic and thing "it's only and automatic" now I see them and think "it's an automatic!". They tend to launch a little harder and be a little more consistant at the drags but you loose a little horsepower in the drivetrain.

Shopping for a WS6, I really wanted a 6 speed. Unfortunately, there weren't any available at that time. Settled for an auto. I had a great time with that car. No complaints.
Told myself this time around I wasn't going to make any compromises. If I wasn't able to get a manual trans GTO, then it was going to be a Cobra. I love to drive and a manual trans is the way to do it.

I wanted a Manual since my car is an auto now...sometimes the auto is handy, but I do love shifting myself too.

There are 2 reasons I would ever buy an automatic. The first would be I plan on drag racing the car exclusively. The second would be if my fiance would need to be able to drive the car. Neither of these apply in this case.

Impulse blue/blue/6speed arriving the end of this week!!!
I have never daily driven an auto- I love to drive too much for performance shifting to be taken away from me! (even if it was my 88 Ranger w/ 2.9L v-6 or my current ride a '90 2.5L Turbo Daytona ES. What an upgrade my GTO will be!!!)
For a drag car, I would take an automatic. With a good stall converter, they can be as fast as a well driven M6. And they're more consistent too.
If I had a long commute through heavy traffic, I'd take an automatic. Constant shifting while creeping along gets tiring.
Since my car won't be at the drag strip very often and I don't have a long commute, I chose the 6 speed. It's fun to drive on the back country twisty roads of west Texas. I'm sure it will be a blast to drive too when I start trying out autocross.

Still haven't decided. The clutch problems that the F-bodies exhibited really make me worry about getting a manual. If it wasn't for that it would be 6 speed all the way.

Hi Tom,
The most fun I ever had was driving my 97 WS6 6 speed. I then went through a couple cars. My last being a slightly modded 02 GTP. When I got the call from my local dealer saying that they got a new GTO in, my first question was (Is it a 6 speed?) It was, and I went and test drove and bought the car on the spot. Automatcis are great, don't get me wrong, but there is a place for everything and I just enjoy drving the manual more.
Just my 2 cents!
Cheers!!!
