Wonder when we will see am aftermarket shifter for teh GTO's M6...I would like a better shifter, but one that uses the stock boot and knob. B&M? Hurst? Pro 50?

I would be very interested in this upgrade as well. The shifter was the only complaint that I had for my 97 WS6. At 1500 miles I swapped it out, and never looked back. Like Gaijin, I want one that reuses the boot and stock shift knob.

Cheers!!!

Stay away from Pro 5.0, a nice shifter but there is no way to control the rattle it makes. They don't tell you they make noise until after you purchase.

If the shifter arm is straight like an f body, you should be able to use any t-56 shifter. I just put on a hurst for my tremec in my 70 T/A, nice shifter and less expensive than any of the others.

Call summit, order and try it, if it does not work, send it back, your only out the shipping but I'm betting that it works and fits for you.

The T-56 aftermarkets for the F bodies don't fit on the GTO's...been tried by many people already. :(

What exactly does not fit? Is it very difficult to pull the console and take a pic of the shifter base? Maybe it's a Tremec pattern.

To be honest, I don't know. all I know, is that I've heard that the F Body and Vette shifters will not fit correctly on the GTO. I believe Hurst mentioned something about the GTO's shifter being farther back then the F Body and is 2 piece. Supposedly, they have nothing that will fit correctly from their current parts. Another person mentioned that they got one to fit, but of course was unable to use the factory knob since the GTO's knb is not removable.

Not sure what's truth, but the consensus is that they don't...if they did, I'm sure the aftermarket sponsors and such would be selling them to GTO owners.

My car is actually a test mule for this one company in San Diego. They start with a K and end in a Y. You;ll hear from them soon enough! ;) Shifters will go for about $100, add the bushings for another $20, and add a tasteful shift knob for another $40.
