Carbon Fiber Hood

I think it is great that the aftermarket is already kicking into gear on the new hoods. Unfortunately, I think they are going in the wrong directions. Steel hoods are great, but the car already weighs about 3800 pounds and if i can reduce that number the slightest bit, i will. Carbon Fiber would do that and help with the weight distribution.

I am curious to see what you guy's think.

Thanks

Mike

I think it would be great if someone offered it, but I have a lot of other things to spend $1k+ on these days.

Edit: looks like your prayers have already been answered:

You can paint a carbon fiber hood, but ricers dont as it lets others know that its carbon fiber and they paid alot of money for it. The Mclearen F1 is made out of almsot complete carbon fiber, and I would love to hear you say that it is rice.

But as said the amount of weight saved is not worth the extreme price, I'll stick with fiberglass above steel.

I'd get one considering the weight of the car is about 3800 lbs. just paint it after words. don't want to look like the hondas I've seen with their nonpainted bodykits.

The 2004 Corvette Z06 special edition (the Le Mans 24hr blue paint job) uses a carbon fiber hood, the reason why more cars dont use one is because its so friggen hard to get a production quality paint job every time (loosely quoting the folks who did the z06 hoods).

The reason most of the after market hoods arent painted is because of the paint issue, and you might pay more to get it your preferred color than the cost of the hood by itself.

If you can find a shop that you know can do the paint job etc etc and you have the $$$ then go for it. I doubt your avg joe paint shop would be the place to start though and i would find out how many pounds you will save before you spend.
