:afro: It's funny how you get so worked up over something and the excitement and adrenaline overcome your sense of logic. Case in point...I couldn't wait to get a new GTO and modify the hell out of it. I was so proud of Pontiac/GM for finally offering a premium luxury sports coupe. I just didn't know where to begin my mods...performance or looks.
Personally I think people are simply having selective amnesia about their older GTO's. As has often been said, this GTO is truly an evolution of the old one. Everyone B&Moaned when the 3rd/4th Gen Firebirds went to a single exhaust, but after awhile no one cared after seeing the power these things made (although I'd still like to see both sides exits). Then regarding the styling, they said it looked too much like other Pontiacs, especially the Grand Prix...well duh..it is a Pontiac. And last I checked every other GTO looked like the contemporary Grand Prix. Even so...this GTO needed to get noticed more. I was sick of people hardly giving me a look. HELLO??? I'VE GOT A NEW GTO!!! :laughbounce:
But, I put all that aside and embraced this premium coupe's details. The quiet ocassional rocking idle that only gets attention when you put your foot in it. :woot: The all inclusive key/fob. The fact that my music isn't put on hold when I twist the ignition to start the engine. The dual express down windows. The ability to repeat a CD track. The ample storage areas. Quiet high speed ride and not rattles over bumps! I loved this car. Nex to the GTO, my '90 350 Formula sounded like a shoddy traveling carnival amusement ride when going over bumps.
Then the excitement died down and I took a slightly broader look at things. I wish the rear seat access was easier and I wonder if this thing has a gas tank leak b/c it sucks gas like a big block. That rear tail was a little too frumpy for my tastes. And that annoying banging in back when I powershift! And this cheesy interior mirror. WTF? AND I don't get a sunroof to enjoy my beautiful sunny days?
My mission was clear. Before I got into making a retro-uber-performance GTO, I had to fix this thing. While it would be fun to mop up a 'Stang or two along the way, my true goal was to make M3 and CLK500 owners green with envy :zap: So with that, I sought to make the GTO a true world class coupe. I wanted it to create a new legendary status.
So I designed the Xecutioner an Appearance & Performance Accent package. Our guys put in full sliding power moonroof (unlike the Monaro's), automatic dimming mirror (with compass, dual LED reading lights, and outside temp), and 18 inch wheels. Next with SLP's help we isolated that rear end clunking. Now that people are actually noticing the GTO and I can powershift without clunks, I've got the performance parts coming soon. What do you guys think?
