Hey dealers,

I've got a dilema. I want an 05 GTO, but I will need to take delivery before they are projected to be available, like end of september, beginning of october at the latest. So I was wondering what kind of deal I could work where I took an 04 GtO and then traded it in on the 04 when it became availabe. I don't want to lose my shirt on this deal. Any advice?

I hope you are not serious.

Dealers were charging an arm and a leg when the 04's came out. To even remotely assume that the same dealers would offer better deals on the 05's is wishful thinking at best and downright suicidal at worst.

Expect to pay an arm, a leg, a kidney, and maybe 2 or 3 toes on your least favorite foot for an 05 GTO. "Losing your shirt" on the deal is going to be THE LEAST of your worries. You'd be lucky to keep your boxers.

Just my 2 cents.

Why do you need to take delivery before the 05's come out? I don't understand, are you military and shipping out overseas? If that's the case why buy a vehicle that won't be used?

Are you a student heading back to school? Why couldn't you just land a 1000 dollar beater and tough it out until the 05's come out in December.

I just don't understand your reasoning, no flame I'm just trying to see the angle you are coming from.

With that said, if you buy an 04 now and go and trade it in on an 05 in December or early next year you are going to take a BIG hit. For one, the second you drive the 04 off the lot you will be taking a serious depreciation hit to the car. When it comes time for you to trade in the 04 on a new 05 the dealer might if your lucky offer 25K for it. Consider that the 05 will probably sticker closer to 35 K than the current 33.5 K and right there is 10,000 dollars. If you are making payments on the 04 you will be making even higher payments on the 05 because you will still be 25 plus thousand in on the 04 and owe 10 thousand on the 05 (because you got 25 K from the 04 trade-in). That is 35 K plus!!! You'll be paying more for the 05 than if you just waited.

Now if you are just loaded with cash and money is no option, go for it. But financially what you are proposing doing is not sound and a dealer would actually love it if you did it because they will be the one getting your money.

I'm not a dealer, my brother is and he would tell you these exact words. Hope I've been of help, not trying to flame you here. :)

I would not advise that unless you are putting a good sum of money down. But then again we all know that the price of the 2005 MSRP will be more than the 2004 MSRP so that would not work either. I would just get on the list that I will be starting shortly and be one of the first people to get a 2005. Let me know.

Listen to Jason above, he ought to know he's a saleman for our preferred dealer. :)

And the point that he even advises against it when he could stand to benefit from a sale to you shows his integrity and character. :D

Hats off to Jason F. and Sewell Pontiac. {shameless plug} :D :D :D

Well, to Jason's disappointment I'm probably going to get mine locally. I can't quite justify scoring mine from Texas when there are many on the lots around me languishing. I'll probably be able to get a good deal and even if I do spend a tad bit more, the driving or delivery from Texas would probably offset that. Sorry Jason. :(

Now if Sewell would like to just practically give away an '04 for say 25 to 27 K then ........ :D :D

And anyway, as the old saying goes, "You'll catch more flies with honey than you will with vinegar." ;)

Just call me Hoover! :laughbounce:

my local dealer just advertised 349 a month for 47 months. Only the taxes and stuff down. It sounds really good, plus a dealer even closer to my house is willing to beat it.
