: 2005 GTO Info Release Discussion Thread!
formula79 07-31-2004, 08:06 PM This thread is to discuss the info release HERE! (http://www.newagegto.com/05GTO.html)
I personally think the 05 rocks...world be even nicer with the autocross body kit!
Smiley 07-31-2004, 08:46 PM OK, there's conflicting information...
First, the info I have says the 17" wheels get 245/45 tires, not 225/50. 18's are 235/40. Second, where does the front plate COVER go? It doesn't say "bracket" it says "cover". I was thinking a slightly redesigned front-end. The spoiler is STANDARD... where is it? And I want to see this Sport Appearance Package!
Hmmmm...
MatadorRed69 07-31-2004, 08:47 PM The 2005 ordering guide has also been updated.
http://eogld.ecomm.gm.com/NASApp/domestic/...eID=1122&type=0 (http://eogld.ecomm.gm.com/NASApp/domestic/proddesc.jsp?year=2005&butID=1®ionID=1&divisionID=7&vehicleID=1122&type=0)
Looks like there is an option to delete the hood scoops. The car in the media pictures doesn't have a spoiler. Is this a new option to delete the spoiler as well? I'm also curious to see what the optional 18" wheels look like.
JohnPaulPSU 07-31-2004, 08:52 PM I'm not sure about the autocross body kit.... I like the side skirts and the rear, of course you can't go wrong with a nice rear and skirt. But the front end sort of looks even more like a grand prix than the original design. Maybe I'll take another look at it.
It's such a shame that I have to wait another 4 months until I own one. That's a long wait. Really long. I find myself fantasizing about driving the GTO when I'm out in my Grand Am. Like today I was sitting at a stop light next to this porshe with a license plate that said 0 to 60 n 5. If I was in my future GTO I could have given him a good run. Which sounds really cool IMO... "How was your day hunny?" "Well I raced a porsche and... lets' just say he'll have a little more respect for the General in the future."
MatadorRed69 07-31-2004, 08:56 PM I think the 225 tires is a typo. The pre-production has 225 tires but the production models came with 245/45R17 tires. It says in the ordering guide that the spoiler is standard and there is no mention of a spoiler delete option. This is odd?
JohnPaulPSU 07-31-2004, 09:09 PM I forgot to ask... What color do you think the cyclone gray will look like. If it's like the dolomite gray they used on Audi TT's then that might be the color for me.

ugh do not like the rear of the new gto, i like the exuast tips but that trunk lip is friggin ugly.
Gaijin 07-31-2004, 09:46 PM The trunk is teh same. You don't notice it on the 04 because of the spoiler.
briandors 07-31-2004, 10:03 PM I like the trunk sans spoiler, as pictured on that "05" silver model. Please let there be a spoiler delete.
I'll take grey, red inside, no spoiler, yes to scoops. :laughbounce:

1 - Interior color includes: seats, door trim pieces, lower instrument panel and accents on floor mats.
2 - Color Stitching includes stitching on steering wheel, shift knob and brake handle.
3 - The standard interior color offered on GTO is (812) Black. However, (746) Blue and (756) Red can be substituted at no additional cost (see chart above for specific color compatibility).
Wow that's long!!!
Interesting points of the above info.
1. Autocross package only on Black, Red and Silver
2. Gas guzzler tax is still there for the A4
3. 18 inch wheels will have 235 series tires that say "Summer Only" not all season/sounds like some serious performance rubber here
4. Hood scoop delete is available
5. Of course the 400 HP/395 TQ LS2
6. Better brakes w/the red calipers
7. 2 new colors
8. Midnight Blue and Cyclone Grey only available w/ black interior and gray stitching
Your thoughts everyone.

Orbit Orange 08-01-2004, 12:44 AM No word on pricing yet though? <_<
Nocturn 08-01-2004, 01:00 AM very true though...as long as its 35K or under im happy.
geekoid 08-01-2004, 03:36 AM I find it interesting that the Autocross package will only be available on three colors. Granted, they are three nice colors, however, if you want yellow, blue, or grey you are just out of luck. In additon, Torrid Red is replacing the current red, yet it is not mentioned as being a new color.
I would still like to see more options, such as climate control, sunroof, navigation, etc.
I guess the big question now is, how much?
forestdweller 08-01-2004, 03:50 AM Hmm I really liked the purple, too bad it's gone. I'd like to see what the midnight blue looks like, but with black only interior? The two tone interiors are just so pretty...
Smiley 08-01-2004, 05:49 AM 1. There is no spoiler-delete option.
2. Torrid Red IS the original 2004 red; Pulse Red is the limited edition red.
3. Cyclone Gray does not come with a red interior, only black.
JohnPaulPSU 08-01-2004, 08:12 AM Since the Cyclone Gray doesn't come with any interior options that makes my decision to go with Torrid Red a little easier.
Also I heard that the 18" wheels were not available on the first batch of 05's as well as the body kits.
bluemax 08-01-2004, 01:38 PM The 18" wheels have smaller tires than the 17" wheels? That's just silly. I'll go for the 17'" wheels and upgrade the wheel/tire combo of my choice. It is ashame that the autocross package is only available in 3 colors. Wonder if it will be able to order the body parts and have them painted?
Felix C. 08-01-2004, 06:26 PM Are the twin hood scoops offered for 2005 functional or cosmetic? The Pontiac new for 2005 release sheet indicates "Air Scoops".
Nocturn 08-01-2004, 09:37 PM Im sure they are functional, but to as they will have any power gains I doubt they will give any.
As usual the trickle of release information creates as many questions as it answers, some things that pop to mind.
1. Are hood scoops functional? I'd say they were sculptured rather than engineered with the bonus spinoff of allowing some cool airflow into the engine bay.
2. There are pictures of '05 with and without the rear spoiler.
3. There are conflicting quotes for wheel size although the pictured wheels seem the same as '04 GTO and current Monaro. No 7 spoke or CV8-R wheel options at least. Will the standard tyre stay the same?
4. The pictures don't have the '05 Monaro gauge cluster update.
5. The big red knob.
6. I guess both models(Auto and Man) will cop the gas guzzler tax now.
7. Will gearing ratios stay the same with a 50HP increase?
Add or answer as you see fit.

1. I'd say that the scoops are not functional but it will let cool airflow in and that's fine by me.
4. I hope that the new gauge cluster is at least an option.
5. I agree with another thread that suggested that it's a protective cap for shipment...why they left it there for the picture is a mystery to me.
6. Ohhh...I didn't think about that one.
digitalgod 08-01-2004, 11:47 PM R8E Gas guzzler tax
1 - (R8E) Gas guzzler tax is not an available option and will be added to (MX0) Transmission, 4-speed automatic. A1
6 - Gas Guzzler is only on the automatic .
Orbit Orange 08-02-2004, 12:03 AM 4. I hope that the new gauge cluster is at least an option.
Well it's not on the above options list at this time. So I doubt that option will be there to start. There always could be late year additional options, so let's not count it out yet. But for now it's not an option.
:)
Nocturn 08-02-2004, 12:22 AM 6. As said, auto only has it manual doesn't.
7. Gear ratios stay the same on both trans.

but seeing what they did with the vette now im getting mixed feelings
Felix C. 08-02-2004, 04:55 PM You know, I was all set(psychologically speaking) to purchase a 2005 Mustang GT in February 05 but the 400hp in the new GTO has certainly grabbed my attention. I have not yet decided and will need to test drive either vehicle for the final decision. I have a few questions:
1. Is the Holden-based GTO continuing on into 2006? 2007? I ask because I read 2007 and beyond will be a different platform. Also, I intend to keep my next vehicle for many, many years and wish to ensure servicing and parts(I do not intend to be in a wreck but it can happen)do not pose a problem.
2. Will there be a Judge? If so, will it be in 2005?
3. I have not seen one in the sheetmetal. My neighbor has a Supercharged GTP in four door configuration. Is the GTO the same size or smaller, much smaller, etc? It is difficult to tell from online photos. Truthfully, in web photos, the vehicle does not appear much larger than say, a two door Accord. I realize the best answer is to visit an autoshow or dealership. Our autoshow is in October and I do not intend to visit a dealership until the week of purchasing. I have to keep a cool head about this. Purchasing a vehicle can be very emotional.
4.Lest anyone believe I am trolling or some other type. Please note I have owned both a 1971 455HO4spd Trans Am and 1979 T/A6.6 4004spd Trans Am.(I can talk the talk when it comes to genuine Pontiac big blocks and GTO history.) In addition to my current 5.0 Mustang. I am not brand loyal only USA high performance loyal.
Regards,
FC
Nocturn 08-02-2004, 06:38 PM AS is, its set to continue untill 07, after then it will liekly take up production in the states or at least on N. America with a redisgn and new platform.
No word on the judge model yet, but GM did win the battle with the SLP for the name Judge a while back so its a good implication that we will see one.
Its about as tall as a GTP, but probably a good deal shorter. It has a wide, low, sleek stance to it. Its not nearly as big and sedan like as it appears in most photos. Thats why I ell everyone to go see it in person before saying if they like it or not.
Lol no one thinks your a troll or anything, and welcome to the board.
Felix C. 08-02-2004, 07:00 PM Thanks. Appreciate the response. I cannot believe a genuine 400hp sedan is/will be available. Amazing. I hope there is plenty of competition in both street and track applications so that engine modifications/improvements are both tested and plentiful. Another GTO poster made the valid point that the 6.0liter is a new engine compared to the one utilized in the 2004 model.
Pardon the troll comment. Any positive reference to a different vehicle, other than the board's main focus, is seen as trolling on some boards. Never my intention. I respect and admire all performance cars.
Regards,
Felix C.
Nocturn 08-02-2004, 08:43 PM Lol well its not here :D If you wanna talk about a different car just start up a post in the lounge, as long as it doesn't turn into a flame war you won't have any problems.
But the GTO is a 2door, 4 seater. You called it a sedan so I thought you might be misinformed.
While it is true that the 6.0 liter is a new engine,it has been previouslly used in the Silverado SS for 04 I believe, and its based off of the previouslly widely used LS1 that has been around since 1997. The 6.0 is a new engine in the GTO for 05, in 04 it was the 5.7 liter LS1 rated at 350 hp 365 TQ.
Felix C. 08-02-2004, 08:56 PM In a way, I am an old timer.
Sports Car is any two seater with high performance pretensions.
Pony cars is anything that is 2+2 vehicle. 2 adults and 2 kids or pets.
Sedan is any vehicle which seats four adults comfortably.
Full Size is any vehicle which seat five or more adults comfortably.
Vans, SUVs, Stationwagons and any FWD car do not exist in my world.
I have had my current car for so long that my automotive frame of reference regarding performance essentially ends in 1993. I went from Pontiac big blocks direct to Ford. Could not handle a Chevy engine inside my beloved Pontiacs. Been there every since until now. It will take a bit of research to catchup.
Regards,
FC
desertgoat 08-02-2004, 09:15 PM Here's how I think of it:
sports car: Viper, Corvette, MR2, Lotus Elise, Porsche Boxster
pony cars: Camaro, Mustang
muscle car: GTO, Camaro, Mustang
sports sedan: CTS-V, BMW M series, GTO, MB AMG versions, etc.
ricers: any car not listed above and seen driving around Phoenix, and believe me, there's gazillions of them
LOLOLOLOL :D
Nocturn 08-02-2004, 09:22 PM Ah well Im also not a big fan of the chevyization of the classic poncho nameplates, but there isn't much you can do about it these days except sit back and enjoy and accept it.
If you want to get technical the Fbody was a pony car, and the Goat and chevelle were the main GM muscle cars.

3. Cyclone Gray does not come with a red interior, only black.
where is did you read or see information about a limited edition pulse red color? according to the order specs this color is not even in mentioned?
digitalgod 08-11-2004, 03:13 AM Actually, there was a post here I just saw today but dont remember where that led to a gm site that listed black and blue interiors as options for Midnight Blue and Cyclone Grey.
The post had to do with what they colors look like.
Nocturn 08-11-2004, 03:14 AM Pulse red is a limited offer on the last 800 2004 GTO's. It was a news release a while back..
miamigto 08-12-2004, 12:42 AM any one have no any pics of this pulse red color what does it look like?
Nodezone 08-16-2004, 05:03 PM Deep dark red. Very nice.
PetersonPeleRx8 09-06-2004, 11:15 PM Wow I didn't realize the pulse red was some kind of limited edition color. I pulled up at my local dealer in CO and they had a red one parked out front. IT LOOKED GREAT!!!
I, along with alotta people, think the exterior styling on the GTO leaves something to be desired... but when I saw it in red... my mouth dropped. Really really nice.
If I bought a GTO.... red would be the color!
inkwell101 09-13-2004, 07:11 PM Maybe I missed it, but anyone have info on the gas mileage for the 2005 auto and manual?

Re: Pulse Red
Have not seen on an actual GTO. Have some links to Holden. Their special edition Monaro will be Pulse Red as well.
From Holden's website- http://www.holden.com.au/www-holden/action...m?modelid=12002 (http://www.holden.com.au/www-holden/action/colourtrim?modelid=12002)

So by: specially tuned LS1 6.0 liter aluminum block engine
They really mean the LS2 I assume?
The 6.0 used in the Silverado SS is an iron block version, same as the other trucks. The new LS2 (Used in the '05 'Vette, GTO, and SSR) is an aluminum block. Basically a 5.7L LS1 bumped up to 6.0L.
Goat Lover 10-12-2004, 09:16 PM I saw an SSR up close today... it was sweet.

Basically yes, but there are much more differences between the LS1 and LS2 than that. But you are correct in that the LS2 borrows much from the LS1.
Squarma 02-18-2005, 01:42 PM Why is it that cars get faster after the breaking in period?
Squarma 02-18-2005, 01:54 PM Why is it that the automatic 05 gto is faster than the 6 speed?
Nocturn 02-18-2005, 03:55 PM Cars get faster after their break in because seals wear in, the engine gets used to running, and in general parts just get worn in. Perhaps someone else can describe the process better than I.
