: one for the goat...
mikeyboy 08-01-2004, 08:19 PM Had an ecounter with a bullit stang last night, My buddy and I roll up next to this guy, I stay by him a lil bit, downshifting to third..he can clearly hear me and know that Im interested. He doesn't do anything. His car sounds real good too. I know he isn't stock. Probably just exhaust, but still. The light was green coming up to it, but did turn red...hehehe..giddy up. The light turned green, we both baby it off the line, then when we cross the intersection, we both hit it. I immediatley pull on him. By 4th gear, Im 2-3 car lengths ahead of him. We get to the next light, He has his window rolled down now, him and his buddy look over and say, "Hey! Nice car man, Haven't seen a GTO yet!" Real cool mustang guy *rare!* I pull off and head to the party we were going too. A fun kill :zap: Oh, and I never turned the A/C off!
formula79 08-01-2004, 09:08 PM Sweet Kill...and very interesting avatar...
04GOATGERM 08-01-2004, 09:15 PM That's cool...so the A/C doesn't bogg it down any?
Nocturn 08-01-2004, 09:28 PM I imagine it does

It just doesn't bogg it down anywhere near enough..
Gaijin 08-01-2004, 11:28 PM True, the LS1's even with the AC on don't seem to lose much power. AT least not enough that it's felt.
silverstreek 08-01-2004, 11:30 PM The ac runs off the crankshaft instead of waterpump cam belt so its not turned as fast thus uses less power to turn it
Orbit Orange 08-02-2004, 12:36 AM Nice kill! :D
Mustangs are sooo tasty. And they aren't filling at all, you can just eat 'em all day. :woot:
About the AC compressor too. I haven't checked or gotten on my Goat hard with the air on (I usually shut it off the few times I've been hard in the throttle) but isn't there a clutch or something on the compressor that will kick it off once the engine is turning so many rpms??? Effectively shutting the AC off by itself and it will kick back on once the rpms are lowered?
The reason I ask is because this is what happens on my GTP under hard throttle situations. If the AC is on and I hit high enough rpms the compressor will kick off and I can feel the air get warmer as it is not being cooled.
After my break-in is up I'll give this a try on the Goat. :)
Nocturn 08-02-2004, 03:16 AM Uhhh, I'v never herd of that, could be the compressor is just spinning to fast to cool the air effectively. But I'v always turned the AC all the way off to get the best power.
scottknight 08-02-2004, 09:13 AM This is pretty much true for any late model GM I have driven. The A/C compressor has been controlled by the PCM for many years, which gives them the option of turning it off due to many variables like engine temp, throttle position, vehicle speed, etc. My 1995 Impala SS would even disable the pump at WOT, as did the 1996 Deville (Northstar) and 2000 GTP. My 2000 Silverado does it and I think my wife's 2002 LeSabre does it (I don't really ever rage on that car :P ) That pretty much makes it a sweep for every GM car I have owned during the last 8 years. It's a feature :woot:
Nocturn 08-02-2004, 10:11 AM well thats a new one to me, never herd of that before.
Orbit Orange 08-02-2004, 11:09 AM Thanks for the explanation Scott. :)
Now that I think of it, I have ridden in my folks Silverado and Astro and it also shuts off under certain engine load situations (hard throttle). Passing and climbing steep hills or mountains are good examples.
Ain't technology great. ;)
mikeyboy 08-03-2004, 12:16 AM The A/C does shut off at WOT :D
ram09 10-12-2004, 11:21 PM I just bought my GTO (phantom black, red leather, 6 speed) about 3 weeks ago, and I drive it to work 5 days a week. My daily commute is about 75 miles a day. While on the highway I have had that instant full mileage screen up and have noticed only about 1 or 2 tenths of a mile difference when the a/c is off compared to when its on. I know that most of the time the computer mileage is off, but with 2 thousand miles on the car, the mileage has been pretty close when I check it. Also I can turn on the a/c and dont feel a difference in the way the car accelerates, I havent taken it over 105 mph yet because I got scared when I noticed IT WAS STILL IN 4TH GEAR!!
