GTO scoop
Pontiac may offer an optional hood with air scoops as a way of clearing out 2004 GTOs still in stock before the improved 2005 model goes on sale. Dealers are having success selling GTOs fitted with aftermarket scoops, so the company may pull ahead the optional 2005 hood for 2004 models, says Pontiac-GMC general manager Jim Bunnell. Pontiac sold 3687 GTOs through June and has a 255-day (6100-vehicle) supply of ’04s. from AutoWeek

Seems like the Driver Foot rest would be a pretty easy add-on too...

Sounds cool. This will make buying an 04 even better. I hope they do this.

Might be an interesting way to entice some potential '05 buyers to take '04s instead but I wonder whether they might not be setting themselves up for a similar problem late next year. I'd hope they've thought about that - perhaps they're floating a test ballon?

Dealers are so freaking stupid I am sometimes amazed at how low they can go.

Pontiac dealers are THE BIGGEST reason why the 2004 GTO was not an instant hit. Their unbridled greed turned off so many potential buyers from showrooms. The 10K mark ups were unprecedented.

Now they're trying to clear 2004 by installing hood scoops?????

Hello???????????????????????????????????

Pontiac dealers, you stupid idiots, I hate all of you. You want to sell 04's? Let me make a simple suggestion. i know this is probably too complicated for you Cro Magnons to understand but I will try anyway. Forget the hood scoops. Forget the pin stripes. Forget the tacky aftermarket wheels. Forget the bikini clad models standing next to the cars.

You want to clear the 04's? GET RID OF YOUR GREEDY MARK UPS! Bunch of Neanderthal idiots......

As blunt as you are desert, I am agreeing. But the lack of testdrives offered by somer dealers and the changing of the MSRP to read 33,190 on some GTO's is a bit over the edge. Some dealers may mark up a bit but to not offer test drives also is rediculous.

Given the dealers overcharging on the GTO... do we expect to see the Soltice retailing for $30,000 as well?

Hood scoops available on the 04 will be of interest to the retro crowd who arent willing to do the mods themselves.... but overall will the scoops make a huge difference? I mean its not like the car will suddenly become a ferrari with them added :)

Maybe I should move to NC then???

You obviously have never visited Pontiac dealers in my state and in states that share a common border with mine.

Congratulations. You are very lucky to live in such a reasonable, fair, and forgiving state replete with so many generous Pontiac dealers.

Some of us are not that lucky. Silly or not, my hyperbole unfortunately is no metaphor. It is the plain truth. I know. I've dealt with lots of them.

Never any markups here either (Nebraska). Now what I want to know is if they are selling faster or slower in the area's with no markups? Sure would be odd if the states that have the markups are the ones where they sell the best.

So where the heck are you, DG? (other than "in the desert"... :D ) Seriously! I'm sure you've told us but I've forgotten (it's not in the "Location" field in your profile.) You don't need to move to NC but you could certainly buy your next car here! ;)

haha i was talking with a dealer here on Long Island in about the middle of July about his Impulse blue on blue 6 speed car and the greedy ******* still wanted 5 g's above sticker
i laughed on the phone with him and said im not the same old buyer I know the numbers and these cars arent selling
he called me back later in the day and asked me if i would like the car for sticker price
they really just fill you up with a ton of BS saying this is the only one on the island that is blue blah blah blah
hate dealing with dealers!!!!!

I will have to agree with your anger, but as a salesman at a pontiac dealer here we dont have any adds to the prices of ours at all, infact we do offer the gmac price incentives and have offered test drives to serious buyers only. The test drives you would understand is a touchy subject, 16 yr old kid comes in saying my dad will buy me one, let me drive it, what would you say? but we have let select few that are serious about buying to drive them and those that do always end up buying the car.

Woods

Fasternu32, I can understand that! Have you every had anyone give you a good scare on a test drive? :o

Fasternu32
08-12-2004, 10:25 PM
lol the way i drive?? not too much scares me, but seriously, they get a little intimidated at that point, they have never driven like a maniac, i have to tell them to step into it a bit usually

I understand the lack of test drives of the GTO. The dealer I bought my 04 threw let one out for a test drive to a seeming respectable person and the GTO later that day found a tow truck ride home. They now have a smashed up GTO to repair. Also now have to try to sell a GTO that was in a accedent. :(
A lot of new age car lovers have no idea of true power or rear wheel drive seen as a lot of learned to drive in a front wheel car and so many are now days. A kick out from posi rear end is a new thing to them. They may drive a
Celica, Monty Carlo or a Pontiac GPX torqued out but that is nothing like a GTO rear wheel drive with T/C turned off. I took 2 younger freinds out on a run on a deserted road and smoked the tires in 1,2,3 and 4rth.( I have 6 speed) They were in total aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh we had to go back so they could see the shift points :o

Just bought mine end of July. I'm looking for an aftermarket hood scoops for my 2004. (similar to the 70 GTO). Any suggestions?

I just figured out how to get a picture (avatar) added. I like these hood scoops. What do you think?

I was just told about this site today. HI, Y'ALL !
Here in the Houston, TX area we were offered a small discount off of MSRP when we bought in March. I've seen on other sites that people on the east coast were being charged many high dollars above list.

By the way, when on a long (2000 mi) trip, the front "bumper cover" almost fell off the car. A dealer in Jackson, MI was kind enough to re-attach it for me. Upon return home I visited the dealer and he admitted that there was no evidence that I had damaged the front end causing the piece to fail. Anyone else having trouble with body parts falling off?

When the 04 GTO came out I went to the dealer to buy one. I was shocked to find out that the dealer wanted $10K over sticker for the car and would not let me take it for a test drive.

Today I get a call from the dealer telling me the same car I looked at is still at the dealership and they are willing to let it go for MSRP.

I called a dealer 40 miles away and found out they have six GTO's in stock and are selling them all at $29800 (they tell me this is GM employee pricing) less $3500 for the rebates. Needless to say I'm going down to test drive one this afternoon. However, the 05 addition of hood scoops and the new engine makes me second guess the 04. But, on the other hand I'm going to pay at least $8k less for the 04 than a 05 will cost me in a few months.

I agree tha dealers probably killed a lot of GTO sales.
I went into a Pontiac dealer with my friend who had driven all the way down to San Diego from LA to pick up a GTO. He was going to trade in his '01 Mustang Cobra.
The dealer was such an arrogant jerk. The car was marked up 5k and he wouldnt let us test drive. He kept insisting that he couldnt sell the car for MSRP, and if we didnt want to pay the markup, he could easily find someone else that could... He also kept making up some **** about the car being a limited production vehicle..

Needless to say we gave up after an hour or so. The funny thing is now that same dealership about about 12 "limited production vehicles" sitting on the lot collecting dust.

I bought mine Labor Day Weekend and they came down to $26,000 on it.

Although I see all the rumors and sneak previews of the 2005's and the GTO JUDGE craze going through the roof I keep reminding myself that they'll probably be selling for around $40,000 and there won't be any room for haggling thus I woudn't be able to afford a 2005 of any kind anyway.

I'm really not interested in paying $10,000 more for an '05 just because it has 50 more horsepower.
