Has your radar/laser detectors saved your a$$? How much did you spend. Also has anyone ever used a radar/laser absorbant bra for your car? Do they really work?

I think this will be a good investment for me. :D

Second choice would be Valentine. Great range and i really like the arrow's http://www.valentine1.com/

IMO, Anything other than these two would just be taking up space on the dash.

Hmmm...check out "California Laws" or "CHiP Laws" or maybe "Califonia DMV". Not really sure.

I think I made up my mind. The Valentine1 is very expensive ($400) but I think it will be worth it. I like the fact that it checks 360* all around and has a much better range than the rest. Thanks for your inputs guys! ;)

Ohh...still havn't heard anything about front bras though.

Good choice 05GG !

My dad swears by the Valentine and actually retired his Escort for it. I like the Solo because it is battery opperated and i don't have to worry about the cord when i travel, but i do have to worry about batteries.

I know for a fact that it is illegal in Virginia to use radar detectors, atleast it was a few years back, and I'm sure Virginia is not the only one.

Found this http://radardetectors.articleinsider.com/4...gal_states.html (http://radardetectors.articleinsider.com/40184_radar_detectors_legal_states.html)

Looks like DC is included.

There's a dealer that I found from another forum that I'm on offering group buy pricing on the Escort Passport 8500 X50 red/blue...$245 shipped on the red. PM me if you want the place...I called yesterday and they still have that price in place.

Waiting a bit for mine, since I just bought the goat, new DVD player and subwoofer :)

Radar/Laser detectors are great (as I used to have one before I got mt free pass), but just a heads up. They work great for radar, which shoots a wide range beam a great distance and isn't target specific (hence the alert before you run into me), however radar activavtion (on/off) is controlled via push button and an experienced operator will not keep it on at all times and will activate it only when the "target" is acquired.

Now, Laser/Lidar is going to be your bigger concern. These units are expensive and depending on your location, may not be an option. However, my department has several and I love B) using it. I have Laser/Lidar IS target specific (look through the 0x scope, put the red dot on the target, pull the trigger), and at 1000' the beam is the size of a stop sign. 95% of the cars I stop are acquired at 250' or less, and the only way that detector is gonna go off is if I shoot it directly. Unfortunatly for you though, Im aiming for the front bumper/plate area.

I know some detector companies offer a extension piece that can be mounted in the grill area, but 9 times out of 10, I already have your speed. Just some free info. (and for goodness sake, make sure its plugged in or on or working. As many drivers in my area have found, it doesn't do much good as a windshield decoration) :hysterical: :hysterical: :hysterical:

Thanks for the tips fastcop!

With laser, if i pick you up you have already got me, right? Atleast with radar we have a little warning if the officer has it on.

Yes, with Laser/Lidar, IF your detector goes off, I already have your speed. With radar, if you are side by side with another vehicle, you stand a chance of avoiding speed acquisition. Now, not to get into specifics, but depending on your area department finances, there are radar units that can tell me the fastest or slowest speed in a group of vehicles coming at me or going away from me, while im moving or while im stationary, and same direction moving radar (an expensive version of "pacing"). However, most departments have the simple (aka cheap) radars that only have standard moving and stationary radar (no fastest, slowest, pacing stuff).

All I can say is if your detector goes off, mash the brakes. There's always a chance you speed hasn't been acquired yet.

I'll do it if I don't think I'm going to get caught. ;)

All I can say is, like the first Porsche I stopped (when he punched it from a red with me right behind him)when I stop my first goat (and every one there after) if I only had you speeding, Ill tell you how much I like the car and get you back on your way. "I'd do the same thing if I had one." B)
