: Stock Chrome Wheels
pmartin 08-15-2004, 02:15 AM I was at a local dealership today and saw a used GTO with the stock wheels. However, they were chrome! I have never seen a pic or heard of these stock chrome weels. I did a search for them on this site and found nothing. Anybody else seen or heard of them? Thanks.
MatadorRed69 08-15-2004, 07:43 AM There are some pics of chrome stock wheels on ultimategto.com. Look under "pictures added this weeK".
GTO-TOM 08-15-2004, 06:09 PM I test drove a GTO on Friday and they had a yellow (new) GTO that had crome rims on it. I thought they looked excellent. They had a $1,950 mark-up on them. This is actually the 2nd one I have seen with them.

tdimasi 08-19-2004, 01:26 PM John Hine Pontiac here in San Diego has a Yellow Jacket with the factory wheels chromed. I assumed the chroming was done by the dealer. They added $1K to the price of the car. Chrome job ws OK, but nothing to write home about.
In my humble opinion they are a definite improvement over stock. In fact, I was looking to do the same. However, now that I've seen them (and considering the cost) I'm not that thrilled with them. I'd spend $500-$600 on chroming the stock wheels, but that's about it. Any more and I'd put the money into aftermarket wheels.
We also have been selling the stock chrome wheels at the dealership.
DANSLS1 09-03-2004, 09:59 AM It depends on the color whether they look good, IMHO. I don't think the black, purple or barbados look good at all w/ chromes. It takes away the subtle lines because the 'brightness' of the wheels is all you see. The red, yellow and IBM all seem to look really sharp and the chrome fits the colors and doesn't detract. As far as silver - not sure I care either way.

Jason, Can the wheels be ordered that way from the factory now? Or do you send the stock ones out for chroming?

No, you send the stock ones out for chroming
cost $650-750
Duck916 09-03-2004, 04:17 PM There are a number of places that will chrome your wheels for you, certainly for less than most dealers get. The usual charge is about $100-150 per wheel. Look in the back of a car magazine or ask around.
To each his own, I prefer the standard wheels!
silverbullet04 09-11-2004, 07:27 PM i just bought a silver gto. its has stock chrome rims the cealership said the were powder coated.so maybe you can just yours powder coated.
BlueSuperGoat 09-12-2004, 12:56 AM My goat I just bought this week has the dealer chromed stock wheels on it. They really light up the Impulse Blue. I will be posting pics in the next day or two.
BlueSuperGoat 09-13-2004, 10:10 AM Here is a close up pic of one of the chrome wheels. There are more pics posted in the "Ok, so I changed my mind" thread.
briandors 09-13-2004, 10:38 AM The silver/black i'm negotiating on right now had 'em chromed, sticker says $1295 for that. In my opinion it's a huge improvement on certain colors, including silver. I think the stock color blends with the silver paint too much.
