: Insurance on an '05?
DrachenGTO 08-16-2004, 02:49 PM Hey guys,
I've been a board lurker for ages now but with an impending '05 GTO order to be made as soon as pricing information is released, I felt it was about time to register here.
Anyways, I was curious if any of you have been able to get an insurance company to issue a quote specifically for the 2005 model year of the GTO. After looking at Geico, Progressive and AIG Auto insurance, the closest I could get was a quote on an '04 with AIG (Geico wanted a Chassis number for example).
Tails 08-16-2004, 02:56 PM I am guessing that the insurance industry won't change the premiums for the 05 over the 04. My 04 was the same as my 98 S-10 that it replaced.

Nocturn 08-16-2004, 08:15 PM I think you'll need more 05 info first, but it might be a bit more than an 04 due to the HP increase.

Hey that's ecouraging news. B) Yeah... it maybe a little higher for the '05 but I was kind of worried it was going to be close to something like insurance on a Vette. :o

I am guessing that'll most likely be the case, although I'll admit I'm a bit new to the way that auto insurance works here in the US, as I've just come back recently after living as an ex-pat in England for the last six years.
Car insurance is outrageous over there by the way.
Nocturn 08-17-2004, 06:34 PM It all depends on how they classify it, the STi and EVO8 are high as they are "extreme performance cars" if the new faster GTO gets that the insurance will be higher.
inkwell101 08-17-2004, 07:38 PM auto insurance has no logic. for perspective, i went to geico and did some comparisons. The insurance on mustang mach 1 which retails for about 30k is hundreds more per year than a vette. well we all know the vette is much faster and much more expensive. so why the higher prems for the mach 1? my guess is that more white trash punks buy mustangs over any other car and its just a matter of statistics. :flush: lol
but i personally dont believe the insurance for the 05 gto will go up much if at all
Orbit Orange 08-17-2004, 11:20 PM so why the higher prems for the mach 1? my guess is that more white trash punks buy mustangs over any other car and its just a matter of statistics
You are correct there. The Mustang obviously has more claims against it than a Corvette and that is what will cause the insurance to be higher. Younger less experienced and more reckless drivers will total their Stangs while a generally older more experienced and less reckless drivers of Vette's won't.
You are right it is statistics and obviously the Mustang is a higher risk than a Corvette. That also doesn't mention theft in the equation either.
So in a way it's a double edged sword. Everyone wants the GTO's price to come down into the high 20's. If it did the younger (read higher risk) drivers would end up driving up all new GTO owners premiums.
It truly is sad that somebody elses c0ckup driving will cause your insurance rates to go up or remain at a higher level even though you may be an accident free low risk driver yourself.
:(
Good point inkwell.
:)
Nocturn 08-18-2004, 12:29 AM Welcome to america, where the few ruin everything for the many.
inkwell101 08-18-2004, 12:41 AM yes, like those crooks Bush/Cheney!!!

Enginerd 08-18-2004, 11:27 AM I just got an 'approximate' quote on an '05 yesterday...$1800/yr. 25 yr old, un-married, clean driving record (for now ;) )
fastcop 08-18-2004, 04:50 PM I just got an 'approximate' quote on an '05 yesterday...$1800/yr. 25 yr old, un-married, clean driving record (for now )
What insurance company was this through?
Nocturn 08-18-2004, 08:02 PM ;) seems a bit high for a 25 year old.
Enginerd 08-24-2004, 04:56 PM Farmer's insurance group...probably seems a bit high, but I do live in Vegas. Car insurance is as bad here as in New York!
CSiJason 08-24-2004, 06:24 PM I was quoted roughly $1200/yr for an 04, same covereage as my current car (full). It was only about $100 more per year which was a shock to me. Where as a quote on an STI was over $500 more per year.
Mountain Goat 08-24-2004, 09:37 PM Me too, app. $1,200 a year for full coverage.
DrachenGTO 08-26-2004, 03:23 PM The funny thing is I also just got a quote as a comparison on a Dodge Magnum SRT-10 from AIG Auto (which I won't be buying due to crazy dealer markups B) ) for $1616, whereas the GTO was $1593.
That was a quote for someone 21y/o single, clean record/license $1000 crash/comp deductions.

Funny, I was quoted ~$1400 for the G35 and ~$1200 for the GTO and ~$1900 for a WRX STI. I didnt get quotes on Mustangs since I have no intrest in one. Strange they would rate the G35 lower cost for you though. I use State Farm here in Missouri though i'm 28 and single.
jbernie 08-31-2004, 12:05 AM I haven't done any quote shopping as i have no chance of a GTO arriving in the next year or so, but the costs are based on the following....
1) your driving record.. honest sir i wasnt doing 110mph in a school zone
2) your sex.. females do better in general
3) your age.. 30's-50's do better
4) your marital status.. get married :)
5) the location you are in, high crime area? low crime area? whats crime?
6) numbers of theft claims on the vehicle you are insuring
7) the type of vehicle... performance, junker, family sedan, minivan
8) credit history (yes it can play into it)..basically the higher the credit rating the less likely you are to commit fraud... i.e. total the vehicle for $$$
9) the type of insurance in the state, and what the state requires you to carry at the absolute minimum. (state to state is like apples and oranges)
10) the ype of insurance you choose to carry, the more coverage you add the more it costs.
11) your previous claims.. few to none is best, natural disasters and the like are held against you, but rear ending a car while talking on your cell phone, eating takeaway and smoking every 3 months wont help :)
12) the X factor... anything else the insurers want to add in :)
Insurers can also give you discounts for:
1) more than one car
2) having a house insured with them as well
3) a very good driving record.. seems you have less chance of an accident :)
4) the safety rating of the cars.. roll over risks, 1 star of 5 star crash testing etc
5) the cost of repairs.. the cheaper the repairs the better of we all are
http://www.statefarm.com/insuranc/auto/affects.htmWhat State Farm says affects your rate[/URL]
State Farm also has a list of vehicles and discounts...
State Farm vehicle rate (pdf format) (http://www.statefarm.com/media/release/vehclrate_04.pdf)
Per the "Damage and Theft index"
- Mustang is charged higher-than-standard collision and comprehensive premiums and has a maximum 20% vehicle safety discount
- GTO is not listed
- Corvette is charged lower-than-standard collision and comprehensive premiums and has a possible 40% vehicle safety discount

jestre 09-01-2004, 11:08 AM i was quoted 3200 for a 2004 GTO
but i live in the worst state for insurance : New jersey
23, m, single, & Clean Driving record..
it's 500 more than what i pay now for my Dodge Avenger
hate insurance in this state...
it went down when i turned 23.. but went back up again cause of the govenor
DrachenGTO 09-01-2004, 02:54 PM Is that 2300 per year or for six months or per year and what were the premium specifics(Deductibles, etc)?
jbernie 09-08-2004, 12:40 AM So i called state farm today to get a quote on an 04 GTO.
I currently have an 02 Focus ZX5, insurance is about $920 per year, 29yo, 2 cars, house, clean record, 100/300, rental insurance.
GTO is approx $1180 per year. Was very pleasantly suprised.

sickgoatlover 09-08-2004, 09:36 AM 250/500 here in Michigan, AAA gives us a multi car discount and we have home owners insurance through them too. 932 a year for 11 months, the 12th month is free!! Not too bad! I couldn't imagine 2005 being that much more for us. I am 29, married, home owner, clean driving records for both my wife and I, almost perfect credit score, and we live in sub-zero crime environment.
