1986 Toyota Tercel.

It had a mind boggling gargantuan 1.3 Liter four banger producing 76 hp at the crank, and maybe 65 horses at the front wheels.

It went from zero to 60 in like 12 or 13 seconds if I pushed the gas pedal real hard. I couldn't make it go faster than 83 miles per hour at the top.

It also gave me 36+ miles to the gallon........

The windshield wiper in the GTO has more power than that car.

Hmmm... Maybe the Pinto wagon? Or the hatchback Civic CVCC? Or the clapped out Mustang II? I'll go with the Pinto, I think...

1989 Geo Metro w/ the 1.0 L 3 cylinder suzuki motor. Amazingly enough I could push 100 mph w/ a tow from my buddy's pickup (5 speed). I actually got 50 mpg on a tank of gas w/ the car sitting running stationary for 6 hours at one point in time (miles were highway miles before the sitting).

1988 Chevy Nova. I think it had about 75 horses but I adored it! It didn't have A/C and I pimped it out with a "pull out" radio. Carried that **** thing through the halls of my high school.

My 72 jimmy. First gear is granny low. Hits the aerodynamic maximum speed around 80 mph. Has enough HP to push it further, but how fast can you push a brick through wind?

Holden (Isuzu) Diesel Gemini for 16 years - "couldn't pull the top off a rice pudding".

best figures I ever got was 55mpg (Australian) but it was so "dead" it wouldn't get out of it's own road!!

1987 Yugo that I drove to college while my fun cars stayed at home. It would barely bury the speedo at 85 or 90 on the level with just me in the car. Add a passenger and it would try and try and try, but never quite touch the pin. Most memorable was with 3 of my drinking buddies one night on a top speed run for beer...that poor little car would not top 65 to save it's life. :hysterical:

Branden it looks like we have something in common, although mine was a '87 Tbird. I would say it was good for low 18s. Funny thing was my friends thought it was a fast car because of the Tbird 'image' :laughbounce:

My old Plymouth Voyagers were slow. I had 2 of them. To tell ya the truth i just traded in my 01 town and country for the altima. That thing was a dog. I had the 3.3L V6. It pumped out 180hp. Not so bad if it was in a mid size car, but for a 4,000+ pound van it was a pig.

1995 chevy cavalier with an automatic tranny. I thought it was so cool and fast at the time. But then again I was 16 and had no idea what a real car could do...

You know - I wanted to add something here. The 'fastest' car I owned before the GTO was my '95 Saturn SC2. Now, I've run the car at 120 - so it's better than most listed - but I certainly took a step in the right direction w/ the GTO! ;)

1988 Chevy Corsica with a 2 liter I4. Buried the needle a couple of times probably about 95mph. Used to drag against my buddy's '86 Cavilier with same engine after school.

...I had a Suzuki Alto when i first got my license back in the 80's in England. I believe it had a 750cc motorcycle engine, and it was a struggle to get it to 70mph. Zero to 60 probably took half a minute or more....hehe

1976 Buick Opel coupe by Isuzu. I even had to pound my fist on the dash to get the radio to work.

forgot to add, i also had a hillman avenger back in the 80's (Brits will know what it is), absolute horror of a vehicle, any slight incline and i couldnt break 45 mph. i bought it for about $200 and it lasted me 6 months until it died a slow, painful death...
anyone need a picture try this..

The slowest car I've owned was my first. 1987 Nissan Sentra XE. It had a 1.6L four cylinder that put out around 90hp (I'm guessing).

I've progressed with each car I've owned though:
1987 Nissan Sentra XE, 1.6L 4 cyl.
1993 GMC Sonoma SLE, 2.8L V6
1998 Chevrolet Camaro, 3.8L V6
2003 Chevrolet S10, 4.3L V6
....
2004 Pontiac GTO, 5.7L V8! (a couple more months)

That's fast by 1972 International Scout Standards...

The 304 V8 in that produced ~ 123 HP (SAE NET), swilled fuel like you wouldn't believe and required ~ 14 seconds to hit 60 MPH from a dead stop.

I couldn't get it to top 85 MPH when I finally sold it (with ~ 110K miles). It was well-maintained from the moment my father bought it new...

And it was slowwwwwwwwwww from the time he bought it new.
