I have a 2001 Grand Prix GT. When I started looking at the Grand Prix sites, most folks thought I was an a** for buying one because the GTP had 240 HP and 280 TQ while I only had 200 HP 225 TQ. Now (times have changed) there is a 2000 GP GT with Turbo kit at 417 HP in the 11's...I would like to see a vendor offer a kit for the 2005 under $4000.00 that offers the public S E R I O U S quality results with reliability...can this be accomplished??? Turbos would be great, but personaly I bet a centrifugal supercharger would give equil overall performance for a lot less money and a LOT less complex. I do believe Procharger is working on a kit for the LS1 and/or LS2 GTOs already. Seeing as the torque is extremely strong from low revs to about 5000rpm, a centrifugal supercharger would boost the parts of the power band that need it the most yet give ample gains before that.

There is a big difference in a Turbo GA and a turbo GTO. Turbo LS1 cars are ranging in he 6-800+ HP range and are usually not very streetable as of the mods required to push such extreme performance.

But on the other hand there are a good many of low PSI Turbo LS1's ranging from 4-500Hp that ARE streetable, but I just wanted to establish that a Turbo Grand am or in general non performance car is quite different than a turbo high performance car to begin with it.

I fully agree. I've had a custom turbo kit on my current car before for a period of time and replaced that with a centrifugal supercharger later which proved to be a lot more streetable and just as fast. Plus it was more predictable power so it was easier to tune. I've since returned the car to almost completely stock form and am in the process of selling everything else off to fund the "Project 05 GTO".

Keep in mind a stock LS2 GTO (for 05) should run nearly 12's in stock trim with a good driver and at best some drag radials for better launches. This is likely to be as fast as an aftermarket turbocharged Grand Am without the effort, cost or reliability issues, plus it has "right wheel drive" (aka: Rear Wheel Drive) which tends to prove an advantage.

When my car was turbocharged, it was extremtly touchy about everything and anything. And it never fully ran "like stock" compared to when the car was supercharged which felt like it had a high revving V8 under the hood instead of an inline 4. (Lets just say it made 350whp at 15psi and I never got it on a dyno at 18psi.) It ran a best of 12.3 @ 116mph here at KCIR in June of last year when it was still pushing 15psi. I suspect it would have ran in the 11's had I made the effort to take it to the track before stripping it back to stock and replacing the built motor.

A supercharged 05 GTO with 500 rwhp would be great. I'm used to smaller cars getting supercharged or turbocharged, are you sure the ls2 can have alot of gain without being too detrimental? If the stock 05 rwhp is about 350 we're talking a 150 hp gain. Now you can get a 150 hp gain from most engines, but the thing will die rather quickly.

I'd agree, a supercharger option from the factory would be great although I'm guessing there are already plenty of aftermarket companies that already have supercharger kits for the LS2 and for a fact have em for the LS1.

Personally, I'm going to go with a supercharger. I can't wait to hear that wine coming from the front of my 05.

The sound of a centrifugal supercharger makes me happy in the pants... :woot: I already miss my Vortech.
