I have what looks like a shift light on the right side of my tach just past 7 grand
I looked in my Getting to know your GTO book and it's visible on page 3. The IP page but there is no notation for it.

If you look on page 5 the trip computer page the tach there has no light or whatever it is.

I also looked at the 2005 pics Branden posted and on the interior shot besides that hideous red knob the light is there. <_<

What is it ????

Branden got any ideas about this thing???

The red knob is a kill button to quickly shut the whole car down in the event of a malfunction. It is only for the test version/s they made and just happened to get photographed. At least this is what i've read about it. It wont be in production models.

I'm guessing you are talking about the 1/2" hole below the 7k rpm number on the revised 05 tach? It is very possable it is a warning feature for the test dummy also, or it could very well be a shift light for the production model. Hard to say really... But, I wouldnt be suprised at all if it is added as a shift light feature which would be kinda cool.

Very cool I think.

My car has it but it just sits there and does nothing, kinda like me at work. :D

Hmm, that is a good question what it does. It would be an ideal location for a shift light though and it would make sense for them to put one in such a high performance car.

On the monaro it is a shift light that goes of at the red line, it was disabled on the GTO though, there are some creative people trying to digure out ways to get it to work though.

I'd love to get it to work on my car.

Please post fix for it if someone figures it out.

Thanks

I bet you could rewire an aftermarket shift light to activate the light in the dash. Though it may not be the best method, you could easily set the RPM that it lights at by using common RPM "pills" that most shift lights use. But you'd have to find a way to gut the other shift light and mount that stuff in some sort of protected case behind the gauge cluster and be sure the light itself is isolated from the other circut so it does not accidently shock any other electical systems.

As per Nocturn's comments, we had a long running discussion on the subject, and if you can find it, there is a link over to the long discussion on the ls1.com (i think it was there) board.

Unless there have been changes in say the last month or so, a few people found the settings in the computer using ls1edit, and we know what the hole is for, we just dont know what exactly is there, no bulb, dummy bulb etc etc.

Basically until someone somewhere feels daring enough to get in behind the dash we may not know.

That whole getting behind the cluster and prying it open is a REALLY bad idea.

I can see it now spread all over the net.....

Cheap screwdriver $.99
Krazy glue $.79
Tape $1.29
New GTO around $32,000

Being the one to confirm that the cluster can't be modified.........PRICELESS

The picture is of a burnt to a crisp GTO and
some knuckle head standing there with his screwdriver. :hysterical:

Yup and only the very brave or very crazy will try it at home... one of the after market tuners or maybe a dealer might investigate it further as it isn't quite as risky for them.
