: Supercharging the LS2?

Hello all,

I am geting ready to order an 05 but want to make sure I will be able to supercharge it. I know the LS2 has higher compression than the LS1, will that cause problems? Am I better off taking advantage of all the discounts on the LS1 and getting one of these instead? I am looking at the Magnacharger or Vortech.

Does anyone know if there is a kit being developed for the LS2??

Thanks!!

Enrique

I doubt it will be one, you will just have to wait a bit for the manufactorers to get their products on to the market.

I dont doubt Procharger and/or Vortech will both make kits for the LS2, as will Magnacharger. The compression ratio is only bad if you fail to make the necessary tuning changes or run excessive amounts of boost.

I certainly hope you are right! I want my boost!

Thanks!

I can't imagine there not being a supercharger for the LS2. Between the Vettes and the Goats there should be sufficient demand for a company to produce.

Tho only question is how long will it take? If I was a company making this product I would not be in such a hurry to get it out the door. Companies like to see an immediate return on investment and right now there are about zero LS2 owners out there. That number will begin to climb slowly beginning in November, and who knows how long it will take until there is enough demand to make the R&D investment worth it.

Hopefully, by the time it comes out, I'll have enough money squireled away to pay for it.

Actually the C6 is hitting streets right now, so it should be starting pretty soon, I imagine some tuners are first getting their hands on ones now.

Will the sun rise?

The LS2 is a Gen IV small block, and tuners are running all over each other trying to get blowers to makert!

Lingenfelter is already taking orders for Twin Turbo LS2 powered Corvettes. They have a limited production of 25 being made this year. Something like 650hp or so, sounds conservative.

You can ever-so-easily shim the heads and bring the CR down to a SC friendly 9.0 no problem at all. Runs better on pump gas, too.

That is what I was thinking, just run a slightly thicker head gasket which isnt the ideal option but if all you want is a half point lower compression, I cant see that being much to shim.

Wow...I would love to see the GTO will a similar twin turbo set up. Turbos are way neater than a blower:)

Far more efficient also, but poorly tuned turbo systems suffer bad turbo lag which would probably be far from noticeable on a car with 395ft/lb of torque stock.

Ya do you think it would actually be more fun to have your turbos lag on purpose and then have a higher end... cuz you would barely notice it with all the torque, and then there would be a whole other level of rush comin' at ya. Sounds pretty schweet to me

I'd prefer a S/C. I had a '91 Twin Turbo 300ZX and until I sold it in July I was dreading the day I would have to replace the turbos. With a turbo car that future expense is waiting for you.
I live in Colorado, so a turbo or S/C would be nice to make up for the performance lost to altitude.

The current systems for the LS1 will bolt right up to the LS2. I wouldn't shim the head as that may cause alignment problems with the intake manifold and headers. Just get a set of truck heads. They have larger combustion chambers that will give you about 9.5:1 CR. That's my plan...

Hrm, not a bad idea... Question then is, will the truck heads flow as much as the LS2 heads? Or could you just have the stock LS2 heads machined a bit to increase the combustion area and lower the static compression?
