: Question about ordering an 05
Nabbs 09-16-2004, 07:40 PM I am looking into purchasing an 05, and have some questions about putting a deposit down:
In regards to deposit, what is the protocol? I am pretty sure the final pricing hasn't been released yet, so what's the format? When I ordered my Firehawk new back in 99, the dealer and I agreed on X over invoice before we had the pricing.
Are invoice and msrp prices available anywhere online?

Fast GTO 09-16-2004, 11:52 PM No final MSRP or Invoice has been announced yet, Pontiac is probably waiting for the 2004's to sell a little better.
With that said best bet is to haggle a price based on MSRP and Invoice.
For example I have a price of $700 below MSRP based on dealers I have dealt with.
But I know some who got a price of $1000 below invoice.
GTO12005 09-28-2004, 06:58 PM That is pretty good advice. Negotiating down from MSRP is a clean way to go.
$1,000 is not a bad deal...remember the '04's have a $3,500 rebate. You should try to at least get them to 1/2 that amount...
If you are a GM family member (GM employee discount) that knocks off about $6,500 from MSRP. I have dealt with the same dealer for years and GM employee discount is never a problem. They are waiting for the final options and pricing from GM then my order will be placed.
They are asking for a $2,000 deposit which will be put toward the purchase price. If I change my mind, then I'm out $2,000.
The only reason for the deposit is because they have 30 2004 GTO's on the lot and he does not wnat to get stuck in the same situation with the 2005's.
Wow I will take a $500 deposit and if something happens I take a refundable deposit, so you would get the money back. Right now I am running out of 2004s. At the beginning of the month we had about 13 now we only have about 7 left. They are moving which is great but any one wanting to place an order with me let me know on the 2005s.

Dang Jason.. that is mighty nice!
How about this>>>>> I will shoot you a $500 deposit, you give me a good deal on my 04 when the 05s get here and I'll buy it and every other Ponitac I buy I will get from you? :friday:
That is what I did on the 2004 GTOs. I was taking a $500 refundable deposit. Let me know if I can do anything to help.

GTO12005 10-06-2004, 07:44 PM Thanks Jason. That is great to know.
I am having a tough time making up my mind about whether to order an '05 GTO or an '05 Vette. I just sold my '03 Vette and made money on the Vette (purchased new in April '03 GMS).
Of course the Vette is about $20k more than a GTO, but The Vette hold value. Not clear on how the GTO will do. I never plan on making money on any car, but with the Vette, I know I can sell it whenever I decide to. GTO needs a little more history.
I love the GTO's! But I also love the C6. I cannot get both...maybe buy one this year and then next year get the other one. That would be the best solution. I'd love having an '05 GTO next to my '06 Vette in my garage! :D

Have you driven a GTO? I would be curious as to how they compare overall, not just raw perf stats. I noticed after a short drive that the vette seems much more liveable than it would appear.
GTO12005 10-07-2004, 12:26 PM I have only driven a GTO on a couple of short drives. THe GTO feels great.
The Vette, I drove accross country from Michigan (where I purchased it) to California (where I live). Spent three weeks in the car on a wonderful road trip with my brother. A couple days we spent 14+ hours on the road and it was comfortable. Never felt cramped and were not worn out at all. The new Vettes are a real road car as well as a fantastic day trip car and even a good daily driver.
That is why I'm struggling with which vehicle to purchase. I sold the Vette to buy a GTO, but now I am struggling trying to make a decision.
I have located dealers for both cars that will honor the GM employee discount. Here in California, Chevy and Ponitiac delaers believe that MSRP + $5,000 to $10,000 is the way to go. There is a dealer in Dublin CA (Bay Area) that is asking $84,000 for one of the new Vettes. MSRP is $54,000. That is on the high end. GMS is about $10k under MSRP. I did find a local dealer that will sell a new Vette at MSRP...I'll still buy at the dealer I have a relationship with who value their customers and will always honor the GM employee purchase prgram. Dealerships that mark up are only looking for the buyer who has more money that brains and there are many out there. My delerships are intersted in repeat business and wnat loyal customers. They actually remember me every time. The high roller dealers give the car business a real black eye.
I remember when the new Tahoes & Surburbans came out in 2000. The dealers here were marking them up from $10k to $15k and selling all they had. Today, they are $15k off MSRP off the lot and they have dozens they are trying to move.
That is my rant for today...
TheJizzer 10-08-2004, 09:18 AM You may want to give the Vette 1 year to work out any bugs. It is a totally re-design
$84,000 for a Vette. I owned a 2001 Z06 and loved the car but would never pay that kind of money for a Vette. They have to be crazy there.
GTO12005 10-08-2004, 12:18 PM Good point on waiting a year...and Jason you are right, they are crazy. Their dealership is located in an area where many 49'ers and Oakland A's players live. I'm sure they are betting one of them will just have to have a new Vette at any price...
testep02 11-08-2004, 02:41 PM Hey Jason, I am from KY but would love to have one of the new '05 GTO's. The dealers in my area are kind of slow about getting anything new and are less than willing to order it the way the customer wants. If u could hit me up at testep02@gmail.com so we could discuss the $500 deposit and other things, that would be great. I look forward to doing business with you guys...
