: somebody please tint your windows!
NinjaGTO 09-28-2004, 03:08 AM I have looked at this site for several days now. I just recently joined after discovering this site. I was just wondering why nobody is tinting the windows on their GTO. I have a phantom black with red interior m6. After tinting the windows, the car's appearance is remarkably better. I mean after all, it is a cavelier body with a vette motor. It can use a few things to improve the overall appearance.
Nocturn 09-28-2004, 03:30 AM carefull with talk like that, alot of us like the GTO's body.
There are some who have, and some who havn't. mostpeople take pics before they have the car for a good while. I imagine some will in time, and other wont due to leases or other things.
DANSLS1 09-28-2004, 06:32 AM Well, I am still debating it. I think it looks cool - so long as you tint the front door windows. Problem is that it's illegal here. I haven't decided if it's worth the potential hassle or not. If you don't tint the fronts, it just looks goofy.
Also, I think if you look around the net more you'll find pic's of about every color GTO w/ tints. Cardomain seems to have some good pics, for one.
Dan
I had my windows tinted and the car does look better. My car is silver
04GOATGERM 09-28-2004, 10:01 PM I'll be getting the darkest legal tint when I get to Texas. B)

desertgoat 09-29-2004, 03:06 AM Here's a picture of my Cavalier with the Corvette engine.
It has 20% tint all around.
PetersonPeleRx8 09-29-2004, 03:05 PM Desertgoat did you do the tint on the front winshield too??
How much did yours cost?
Car looks super clean and sexy by the way ^_^
NinjaGTO 09-29-2004, 10:29 PM here's mine with 20% all the way around with a small strip across the front

You mind turning on the overhead lights in your garage so we could actually see your car? And the windows?
Forgot to pay the electric bill? No flashbulb in the camera?
:hysterical:
NinjaGTO 09-30-2004, 10:40 AM yeah, you are right, the picture is a little darker than i originally thought, no need to get your panties in a bind, hope this is better, it's alot of reflections so you really can't see it much better, but the real beast is the truck in the background, 206k miles and still trucking, a little bit of vibration but that never hurt

Cuz you're gonna need it :P What region of Texas are you moving to? Be sure to go to someplace that has heat-stopping tint. When I got my Trans Am tinted, I went to some cheap place, and it's already peeling, and I can't notice much difference, temp-wise. It looks loads cooler tho B)
BRMike 10-13-2004, 05:20 PM I'll be getting my windows tinted in a few weeks. It doesn't take long for the interior to heat up down here. I'm not sure what percentages I'm going with. I just want the darkest legally possible.
MARZ4581 11-12-2004, 05:30 PM How bad is the radio reception after the tint? The antenna is in the back window isn't it?
Nocturn 11-12-2004, 06:24 PM Welcome to the board MARZ4581

Whether you tint windows or change wheels etc you have a problem.Insurance does not recognise modifacaions unless their aproved buy the ins.co.If your in an accident with a modified car your not covered. You pay for all damage for all cars and people.Read your complete policy and you'll see. Also, any mods kill resale value, because the seller must tell the buyer what i just told you,and mods elimenate 60% of potential buyers. You mite want to ask yourself why you really want to change the apperance.By doing so your telling everyone that your insecure and need something to attract attention to yourself or need approvel.ANY AFTERMARKET parts arn't truely tested and approved by anyone.Look at their warrenties including the fine print and you'll realise this. All this applies to engine, suspension, lighting, tinting, exhaust, even weight changing modifacations.Proceed at your own risk!Since driving is a privalege and not a right you cannot change this unless you can change the law and corporate policy.GOOD LUCK!Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, not the owner.

People do this stuff obviously because they want more attention. If you had a car you paid 33k for wouldnt you want it to stand out just a little? This is good and bad as you get to show off... And then someone might want to steal it.
Also some people may think thier car looks cooler.
Foster'sguy 11-15-2004, 09:49 PM If and when I tint my windows, it will be to try and keep the car a little cooler and kill some of the glare I have to deal with down here. But then people won't be able to see the huge grin I have.................
Nocturn 11-15-2004, 09:52 PM While this is true, I doubt window tint will ruin the resale value.
People still will mod their cars as I havn't herd of insurance making people pay all the damages by modding their cars. If they had proof of street racing I could see, but not for simply modifying as stereo mods fall into that category also.

As would things like suspension improvements (ie: lowering, sway bars, strut braces), aftermarket wheels and tires and just about anything else aftermarket on the car.

Wake up dude.... wake up! You've been sleeping in the garage again with the car running man!
Seriously, major mods might shy away some buyers but typical bolt-ons will not.
Your insurance company may not pay for your mods if the car is stolen or wrecked, this depends on your insurance policy more than anything. Too many kids have been trying to scam them for stuff they dont have and/or for way more money than their stuff is worth. See your policy regarding mods including stereos and performance stuff. Many offer a suplimental plan for a slight fee to cover this stuff.
By no means will you be held liable for an accident that you are not at fault in just because you have mods on your car. :hysterical:
04GOATGERM 11-16-2004, 02:04 AM Wasn't this thread about ummmm TINT? Is tint really a mod? I'm pretty sure if your windows are tinted within the legal limits of your state your insurance will not even question it.
I will be tinting my windows for 2 functional reasons...
1. To help with sun glare.
2. It is nice to have a little privacy also. (don't get crazy with that one please...you know what I mean, right?)
Oh, and yes it does look nicer from the outside (just a little more clean looking IMO). If I wanted attention or if I felt insecure I would paint some big red racing stripes down the middle and mount a 60cal on top.
BRMike 11-16-2004, 07:46 AM I had the windows on my GTO tinted a few weeks ago. I don't really think it's a mod. It's pretty much a necessity here in the south as it gets insanely hot! My car does look better with the darker windows, but the number one reason I had the windows tinted was for heat reduction.

20% on the doors 5% on all the rest looks badass on phantom black :afro:
Mikesan 12-31-2004, 03:10 AM 22% on the rear three windows and 32% on the front two. No problems with cops in three + months. Would like to remove the front license plate but that is probably asking for trouble here in Calif.
I did it for the looks and to keep the interior from getting too hot or damaged.
1FASTWRX 02-06-2005, 04:42 PM Window tint makes all cars look better. I also hate sitting at a red light and everyone can see me perfectly. Window tint is the first mod on my list once I get my car.

Close.....25% (to be legal) on the driver and passenger window...you can go limo on the rest. 20% on the driver and passenger to pass inspection.
Mine came pre-tinted :)
Chrismc04GTO 04-24-2005, 01:49 PM I have a Phantom Black '04. I had my windows tinted exactly like Nocturn's.....35% front and 5% rear quarters and rear window. Made it look awesome. And to think it only cost me $200!
Chris
