There are now three supercharger brands available for the GTO. Each one has it's own benefits so this info should be help you decide which one is right for you -

Vortech

http://www.tbyrne.com/GTO/Vortech.jpg

The addition of the V-2 SQ S-Trim supercharger will increase horsepower from 350 to 481 and torque from 365 lb./ft. to 435 lb./ft. at 7-8 psig at the flywheel.***

The system includes an integrated dual-pass air/water charge cooling configuration, which features a closed loop water cooling system with a stand-alone pump, tank and front mounted heat exchanger. All components needed to bolt the system to a stock vehicle, such as billet aluminum mounting bracket, fuel system upgrade including replacement injectors, supercharger oil feed and drain, compressor bypass valve and all required fasteners are included. The installation allows retention of all factory accessories including A/C and power steering. This system is available in satin or polished finish. The V-2 supercharger is covered by a three-year limited warranty.

*Legal in California only for racing vehicles which may never be used upon a highway.**6-Speed system to be released by the end of September, 2004.***Supercharged horsepower and torque data shown is a calculated estimate based on percentage increases from actual rear wheel hp/tq measurements.

ATI ProCharger

http://www.tbyrne.com/GTO/ati3.jpg

The new Intercooled ProCharger system for LS1-powered 2004 GTO’s produces a 50-55% power gain on stock motors running pump gas, with 7 psi of intercooled boost. This compares to competing systems which produce 29-37% horsepower gains with the same 7 psi, but without ATI's superior supercharger and intercooler technology.

This system installs in approximately half the time of other systems, with no need to punch a hole in the oil pan, replace the engine intake, or deal with all the complexity of an air-to-water-to-air intercooler. This new ProCharger system also has a much more attractive and "OEM" appearance than others for the GTO. Additionally, with the coolest charge air temperatures available, the HO Intercooled ProCharger system for the GTO produces not only the industry’s undisputed largest power gains, but also the best engine longevity.

Standard equipment includes an exclusive air-to-air intercooler system and a patented self-contained P-1SC-1 supercharger, with 3-year warranty available. This new product utilizes the same proven technology as the industry-leading Intercooled ProCharger systems for LS1 F-bodies and C5 Corvettes. In addition to the HO Intercooled system, a tuner kit and D-1SC serpentine race kit are also available. With modified LS1 motors, the D-1SC serpentine race kit is capable of supporting over 700 horsepower.

HO Intercooled System

7psi, 50-55% horsepower gain (5 psi pulley also available)
P-1SC-1 ProCharger, custom GTO specific air to air intercooler
100% complete with fuel injectors and handheld programmer
Dedicated 8 rib drive system with automatic belt tensioner

Tuner kit
Omits fuel injectors and programmer
Otherwise identical to the HO Intercooled System

D-1SC Serpentine Race Kit

D-1SC ProCharger intended for modified applications
8 rib drive system - requires the purchase of an aftermarket harmonic damper. ProCharger crank pulley is compatible with Fluiddamr part number 740102. This may also be compatible with other manufacturers
Otherwise the same as the Tuner kit

Magnuson

http://www.tbyrne.com/GTO/images/gto-1.jpg

O.E.M. quality Mp112 5th Gen, "hybrid" roots style intercooled supercharger w/integral bypass valve
Intercooled application features a unique air to liquid heat exchanger that is integrated into the manifold, below the supercharger
Computer programmer - re-flashes factory ECU, spark and fuel control, transmission shift points, line pressures and torque converter strategies are optimized to manager increased torque, horsepower and mileage.
Two warranties - standard 3 year limited warranty or add an optional 36,000 mile 3 year powertrain warranty for $200.00
Does not void your warranty
100% complete with step-by-step instructions

This all-new intercooled supercharger system utilizes the Magna Charger MP112 supercharger with internal bypass valve. Torque and horsepower output is improved from 1500 rpm to 6500 rpm,

This kit is complete with all components necessary for installation. Included in the kit is the cast aluminum intake manifold and all necessary hardware to complete the entire installation. Other components in the system include new fuel injectors and extruded aluminum fuel rails, coolant circulation pump, intercooler core and heat exchanger. Factory push lock connectors are utilized in the fuel system for ease of installation.

With Magnuson not disclosing any fiures, my money would be with ATI since they seem to provide the largest gain.

Has anyone installed any of these superchargers. What were your costs, upside and downsides of the decision, difficulties, or lack thereof, installing, etc.

^^^Agreed. I like the looks of that procharger.

I am biased. I own an ATI system and part of the company that will be building the Justice TM. Having driven the car with ProCharger equipment I can tell you that it is serious power. We had the beta installation on the silver GTO posted on their site and will have the Justice TM in their booth at SEMA. The only money you can spend to get more from a GTO is to complete your ATI/ProCharger installation with Justice TM conversion. Our pricing will be set shortly. In the interim here is the link to our press release complete with shop-quality photos.

Can you tell us what kind of sound it made, I know many of us are afraid of the Mustang type whine with superchargers.

JusticePete
10-18-2004, 10:11 PM
The whine is not a concern. Being able to shift as fast as the car revs is important. There is a by-pass valve that 'dumps' the pressurized air when you shift or back off the accelerator hard that makes 'burping' noise. Overall it is a quiet piece of equipment unless you put your foot in it. MHO, it is music to my ears!

If you have the money buy an ATI/ProCharger and really enjoy your GTO. The only downside is there isn't enough rubber on the OEM setup to really launch the car to the max. That is where we come in B)

Thank the lord I have an auto because I could wreck even a tremec with my shifting with a procharger that gives you over 150 extra hp.

Dose the ATI tuner kit have less hp then the HO intercoled kit?

Dose the ATI kit fit both A4 and M6?

tbyrne
10-21-2004, 12:26 PM
The Tuner kit will pretty much have the same or higher horsepower gains. That will depend on the boost that your running, tuning and other mods. These will be available for the A4 and M6. Current orders are being submitted to ATI for production.

This is in reply to a private email that can be answered publicly. Sorry about the delay in response.

We used a broad range of vehicles to set the performance targets. Some are virtually race cars on the street. Here is a short list:
Dodge Viper Competition
Mustang SVT
Cadillac XLR
Corvette
BMW 645
BMW M3
Mercedes Benz SL 55 AMG
Lexus SC430

The performance targets are derived form published test results. Where data from multiple tests was available the results were averaged. In some instances the best of class were set as targets. In others the target selected was considered to be above average for the group and realistically attainable. We will not publish performance numbers. We will accept the results from testing conducted by the media.

Performance Targets
0 - 60 4.2
0 – 100 9.4
¼ Mile 11.9
¼ Mile Top Speed 120MPH
Skid Pad .93
60 – 0 100’
80 – 0 195’

As with all things, just when you think you have cool equipment (http://www.silverbulletpartners.com/sbp/truck_at_procharger.jpg) another person gives you a reality check. Our equipment is in the fore ground of the picture.

Whoa, now that is pretty cool. That might actually give some effect to the hoodscoops. Wonder how it does over stock, it looks a bit heavy also, and I would hate to configure a SC or TC application for that.

No worries, I'm happy to follow your request. I was merely intending to supply relevant links & info to GTO owners/aspirants & didn't realise NEWAGE is a 'closed shop' insofar as aftermarket GTO product is concerned

To clarify, a few quick questions if I may ..

Does your link-ban apply only to hyperlinks & image-links? Are members permitted to attach pictures of non-sponsor product, purely for the information & benefit of fellow members? Or would you prefer there be no mention whatsoever of non-sponsor product?

The STS Turbos will soon be another option -

http://www.tbyrne.com/stsgtoengine.jpg

http://www.tbyrne.com/stsgtobottom.jpg

Each STS™ Turbo System includes all the parts you need to install the turbo on your vehicle. The installation manual includes full color photographs that walk you through each part of the installation.

Garrett Turbo
TiAL Wastegate
K&N Air filter and PreCharger
Turbo Oiling System
HPC coated intake tubing
HPC coating exhaust tubing
Electrical harness
PCV System
Silicon connectors, clamps*and fittings
Return oil cap
Full color, step-by-step instruction manual
1 year parts warranty

Most components under the hood of today's vehicles were not designed to operate at this temperature. In order to place a turbo in an already overcrowded engine compartment it is necessary to do a lot more than just make some room for the turbo itself. By mounting the turbo remote under the vehicle, STS has eliminated the heat problem. A remote mounted turbo runs cooler, with no additional lag and requires no major modifications to your vehicle. The basic systems provide ~5 psi of boost, but with additional tuning and turbo upgrades the systems can produce near 20 psi of boost.

Other benefits of remote mounting include -

Performance Sound. The turbo acts as a muffler and sounds like an aftermarket performance muffler. Turbo spool and rushing air from the blow-off valve make a unique sound that will turn heads!

No need for major modifications to your vehicle. STS systems are designed to bolt on using factory mounts without cutting or modifying your vehicle.

Increased gas mileage. Unlike a belt driven supercharger, the turbo utilizes "wasted" energy leaving your tailpipe. Most of our customers get 2-4 mpg increase in gas mileage.

Lower underhood temperatures. No need to worry about melting wires, hoses, or other components.

Easily converts back to stock in less than an hour.

More room under the hood. Future repair work or modifications will not require the expense of removing the turbo system to allow access to any of the engine components.

Cooler oil to the turbo. Cool oil is better for both the turbo and engine.

Approximately 500F lower turbo temperatures. Eliminates the need for a turbo-timer, which allows the engine to run after the car is shut off in order to cool down the turbo and prevent oil and bearing damage.

Denser exhaust gasses drive the turbo turbine wheel more efficiently.

Built-in intercooling. Intake piping provides ~50% intercooler efficiency. There is no need for the expense, pressure drop, and installation problems associated with a front mounted intercooler.

Turbo is exposed to ambient air rather than underhood air. Allows for better cooling of turbo components.

No need for expensive headers, mufflers, or exhaust systems.

Turbo is closer to the tail pipe outlet. Provides a better pressure differential across the turbine wheel which promotes better flow across turbine.

Better weight transfer. Increases traction because the bulk of system is mounted in rear of vehicle rather than up front.

Less noise in the passenger compartment.

Quieter wastegates, especially if vented to atmosphere.

Better engine cooling capacity.

We're have these ready to go by the end of the month. A few might ship earlier.

Why will TrueBlue need a better paint job?

And is that the body kit from your SEMA GTO, if so how much?

True Blue has been introduced to the finest paint work in North America done in Elkhart Indiana by Dean Loucks at The Art of Design TAOD (http://www.TAOD.org). He is now a fan so it was an inside joke.

As far as making any parts from the SEMA car it is a wait and see proposition. The suspension work is still not completed to my standards so there is little value in wider wheels and track if it doesn’t perform perfectly. We have a load of parts on a ship between here and Australia. These guys have sent us some very promising suspension upgrades and I will post the results once we are through testing.

As any backyard wrench, racer or car nut knows getting it right takes more time and effort than anyone anticipates. We are close but not there yet. Stay tuned.
