I have a '68 GTO, with a 400ci YS code engine and it needs to be rebuilt, the stock engines cranked 350hp, but i want a few simple mods to get between 400-430hp after the rebuild. please list what i could do, (cam, port polished heads, intake, carb?)

thanks, Brian

Headers, intake manifold, carb, and a tune up are the best things to start with since they are easier to install. There are a couple other old GTO owners on here (the GTO is old, not the owners lol  ) But they should be able to help you out on the specifics.

if u havent rebuilt ur engine yet... id by a bigger cam and a new intake and up from there to a larger carb and headers

A cam swap is alot harder to do than a simple manifold/carb swap.

yes a cam swap is a lot harder, but i was saying if the engine has not been rebuilt yet it would be an easy upgrade from the stock cam shaft

True but why stop there, as long as were rebuilding might as well add heads with it.  :D

Are you planning on keeping the same ci. for the engine or are you going to possibly stroke/bore the block?

Do you want to keep the stock heads or the heads that are on the engine right now?

Easiest way to get 450 rwhp would be to put in a RA IV cam and a set of edlebrock heads. Then get a set of Doug Thorley headers. Drop a 4150 holley carb on top and let her rip.

Never fear Im hear( usually dont check this area of the forum)
To be honest i would rather you keep it stock. I like classic cars to be stock and numbers matching. It hurts the value when you modify them.
But if you have that need for some extra speed than the ram air IV parts would be a great idea.

dont get me wrong i love the stock GTO's, but i want a little more kick for the classic, my Goat is going to be stock, but the engine will be the same ci slightly modded without bore or stroking
