Pontiac's presence is highlighted by two GXP performance sedans - the production 2006 Grand Prix GXP, with a new 300-horsepower LS4 V-8 engine, and the G6 GXP concept with a 275-horsepower 3.6L HO V-6. Meanwhile, the Pontiac GTO and Solstice models at SEMA illustrate how GM Accessories can accentuate the total performance package.
New small-block
Marking the 50th anniversary of the legendary small-block, GM Powertrain will showcase its new 5.3L LS4 V-8 engine, which will debut in the 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix GXP. The 5.3L LS4 V-8 represents the first time that the small-block will be offered in a front-wheel-drive car.
The LS4 produces approximately 300 horsepower and 300 lb.-ft. of torque. It also incorporates Displacement on Demand technology (DOD), which helps the vehicle realize fuel economy gains of up to 12 percent in certain light-load driving conditions, such as highway cruising, by seamlessly alternating between eight- and four-cylinder operation.
When matched with the inherent smoothness and torque of the V-8 configuration, the LS4 delivers strong performance - 90 percent of torque is available between 1500 rpm and 5600 rpm - and surprising economy. It's a combination most competitors' V-6 offerings can't match.

Cool... so does that mean they're doing away with the Supercharged V-6 on the Grand Prix's???

It looks that way for the GXP getting a SBC. They may keep SC 6 for the GTP model and justmake the GXP another trim level. They might however replace the GTP with the GXP in which they may or may not push the SC3.8 down to the lower Grand prix trims.

This goes along with the news of the current Monte Carlo SS configuration of the 3.8 SC being "lowered" to Monte Carlo LS and the SS getting a new engine configuration. Maybe the Monte SS gets the LS4 too.

I'm wondering what the pricing will be on the GP GXP's?
The Bonnie GXP checked in at 36K unoptioned.
A higher HP GP GXP would be above the Comp G around 30K. Maybe around 32K then. This is really pushing GTO pricing. Pontiac can't get too close in price or the logical step would be to jump to the GTO over the GXP Prix.
Curious about performance too. Really how much quicker will it be with 40 more HP and 20 ft/lb TQ over the old SC 3.8 since I'm sure the LS4 will weigh more than the old SC 3.8. I'm sure it will be quicker and faster, but will the power increase warrant the price increase??? :)

Are you sure it's going to be 300HP, I'll bet it goes down in the production model.

I doubt it, with the NS in the Bonnie, the LS4 is planned to hit 300 flat which I dont think is going to be a big problem now.

Well i think they should either keep it GT, GTP and topof the line GXP, or maybe dump the regular 3.8 and make the supercharged version standard. This will make the car look better agains the maxima and other cars it competes with. As for the price compared to the GTO, i think it wont be a problem. The Grand Prix is bigger and will come with more options so i dont see much conflict.
