Either google it or look for material concerning the C6 Corvette as it has the same engine. My guess is that the engine itself will change very little from the Corvette to the GTO, with only the top engine cover being changed to say GTO instead of Corvette!

It pretty much looks the same as the ls1... isnt the ls2 just an ls1 with ls6 heads?

No, That would be an LS6 basically as the LS6 is basically and LS1 with LS6 heads.
The LS2 is a different engine, larger bore and other changes are made in the LS2.

True the LS1 is a 350ci engine and the LS2 is a (roughly) 368ci engine.

Some one care to explain CI/L to all the folks out there?? I really think a lot of people are confused and are afraid to ask.

Maybe explain exactly what CI stands for and how the number applies. I would but I am not too good with word sometimes :(

CI = Cubic Inches and refers to the engine's displacement.

Definition from Wordiq.com:

Engine displacement, in a piston engine, defines the volume (normally stated in cubic inches, cubic centimeters, or litres) that is displaced as the pistons are moved from top dead center to bottom dead center.

Both are measures of volume, just different units...there are approx. 61.02 cubic inches per Liter. 6.0L = 366 in^3. The ls2 is actually 5.97L = 364 cubic inches displacement.

Oh yeah, one other thing, if you're into GM history...the ls7, 7.0L, is 427 cubic inches! Can anyone confirm that the ls7 is definately going to be a 7L? I've heard the rumor but haven't heard anything for sure...

Actually the LS7 was a 454 cid engine. It was available for sale from Chevrolet but was never installed as a regular production option . The LS6 was installed in some Chevelles and Corvettes. It was also a 454. There were several different RPO designations for the various 427's depending on the power output, cam type (solid or hydraulic), carb setup, cylinder head material, combustion chamber shape and volume ,etc.

I just want to see them put the 500ci Big Block (8100) in a Vette :frankie:

A few mods and that thing would be a rocket. :drevil:

A rat motor would be nice in a vette, but if I recall the 8.1 is a cast iron block...far too much weight for a vette. An aluminum mouse with rat displacement would be perfect (duh)...but 500hp in 7L form should be more than enough to go viper hunting!

The LS6/7 were also engine codes used in the 60's in which case you are right, but they are also engine codes for todays engines also.

There is no direct garuntee that the LS7 is a 7.0, but it has been suggested.
