: Idle RPM

I've had my GTO (M6) for a couple weeks now and I've noticed that my car seems to idle a little higher than I think it should. Sometimes coasting to a stop (anytime shifting into neutral), the engine will stay right around 1,000 to 1,100 rpm. Once I'm completely stopped, the rpms will drop to about 800, which is what would be normal to me. This is not something that has me concerned, but curious. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

BRMike,

There has been a previous thread on this topic, I think most people who responded noticed that the idle rpm gradually dropped down to around 400-700rpm after they got some miles on the vehicle.

How many miles do you have on your GTO now?

Also when you change into neutral, are you doing so after coasting along in gear or are you changing after holding the accelerator down for a bit to maintain a speed and then going straight to neutral? This can make a difference on my unworthy Focus :) as i have seen the rpm held higher if changing into neutral too early.

Thanks for the response. I have just over 1,000 miles on my GTO. When I shift into neutral, I'm usually already off the gas and coasting. I thought the ac may also have a slight affect on it. Either way, I'm not real concerned about it...

You know, I've had a couple of fuel injected vehicles that behaved exactly like that. It almost seems as if they program them that way for some reason.
