: 2004 Wrx STi
slaff 10-29-2004, 10:59 AM Got my 2004 GTO on Monday (10/25/04), I am meeting my friend this weekend who has a 2004 Wrx Sti. I'm assuming we will go at it, has anyone else gone heads up with an Sti? Ig not hopefully I'm posting a kill on Monday. :pyth:
silver04GTO 10-29-2004, 11:42 AM better watch out wrx can be quick ... does he have any modes ?
Foster'sguy 10-29-2004, 11:56 AM As mentioned in a previous post, I was playing leap frog with one the other night. Due to a little police interference we were unable to finish the festivites..... You may want to break it in first. You will find it goes a little faster after the engine loosens up... BTW congrats in the new car!
04GOATGERM 10-29-2004, 04:20 PM Welcome to the boards slaff and congrats! B)
How many miles DO you have on it? If your Goat isn't broken in yet you're going to have a real hard time with that WRX Sti. You'll be good to go once you have about 1,500 on it. ;)

i agree, i just hit the 1500 i feel more power. Ive had an impressive kill list so far, my next goals are either a STI, EVO, or M3. I should be able to give any of these a run for the money.
Mike D 10-29-2004, 08:29 PM take a road trip to the U.P. to get the miles up and destroy him on sunday :D
sickgoatlover 10-29-2004, 10:58 PM Yea!!!...... Another Michigan Goat on the road. There sure are a lot of members posting from Michigan. From around Midland, Slaff? B)

Pulse Red 04GTO 10-30-2004, 01:13 PM SLAFF I agree with everyone here, break in that engine first before trying to go head to head with a STI. Are you racing a quarter mile or longer??? The Goat is faster at higher RPMS and speeds of excess of 100mph were it really pulls and shines. Hope its on a track? And if its not, be careful!
Congrats on the new GOAT.

First let me say I like the new GTO and im interested in the 05 GTO . I have an 05 STI and you need to find out about a car before you talk about beating it in a stock for stock race.
2004 subaru WRX STI 1/4 mile 13.2 and 0-60 in 4.8 thier are alot of time slips out thier at 13.0 1/4 mile.
So put down those pipes. Now the 2005 GTO thats a another story.
TEK GTO 11-21-2004, 12:51 PM I beat my friend's STI with my '87 Buick Turbo T, and my T was faster than the GTO. I think the STI is going to win, he'll jump you out of the hole and hold the jump all the way down the 1/4. Unless you run like ricers and go from a roll....then you have a chance.

First off don't troll on here and only post claiming we don't know what were talking about, as we do.
The STI is a fast car, but its geared for the 1/4 mile due to its ralley roots. The STI will have the advantage as we ALL have said off the line, but the GTO will have the advantage past the 1/4 as the Sti gearing takes its effect, and the higher power of the GTO.
Take a look at the gearing differences on the two cars, the STi has very tall gears and not that much of a higher redline. The Sti will win a 1/4 mile race, but the GTO is capable of equal times given the skilled driver. So between these particular cars the STi will most likely win due to the GTO's lack of being broken in. BUT with equal milliage on the car the 1/4 would be a close race, and the full mile would go to the GTO.

I raced an 05 STi the other night at the local 1/8 mile track. We raced twice and we each won a race. The race I lost was won by .09 and my RT was .2 slower then I ran all night so basically I lost the race because I was sleeping at the tree! My car has a few bolt ons and a set of Nittos on the rear. He was launching hard but at the 330 ft I was pulling on him like he threw out the anchor. My traps were 84 mph to his 78 mph!
It is my belief that a stock goat with Nittos on the rear can hang with a stock STi or possible beat it in the 1/4. No matter what, after the 1/4 it's bye-bye anyways to the STi seeing that the stock goat can outrun it by 15 seconds to 150!

I've driven both, the STi is much quicker out of the hole but there isnt enough from the Sti when you erally get up there
1FASTWRX 12-18-2004, 01:37 PM Hey guys.
I'm currently thinking about an 05 GTO. I currently drive an 04 STi. I love my STi but I'm thinking about a more mature looking vehicle now that I'm hitting middle age. The STi makes me feel like a boy racer. But like I mentioned I really love my STi and its an unbelievable car.
About a GTO vs STi.
If the person driving the STi is experienced it will beat a 350hp GTO pretty easily in a 1/4 mile race. I personally ran very low 13s in my STi (bone stock). There's a pretty long list of guys that have run 12.9s in bone stock STi's. If your willing to drop the hammer at 5500 rpms and your a good driver you can pull close to 4.0 sec flat 0-60mph straight out of the box in an STi. I pulled several 1.66 sec 60' times along with 13.1s - 13.3s in my stock STi. I ran 13.0 @ 104 with just exhaust mods. 12.8 @ 105 mph with a blitz intake and exhaust. There was also a guy at the track the same day with a new 350hp GTO and he was running 14.0 @ 101 mph under similar conditions. So an STi definately has the advantage in a drag race (drivers being equal)
