: 2005 GTO or 2005 Saleen S281 Mustang?
BLKGTO 11-03-2004, 01:11 PM I love the look of the 2005 Saleen Mustang S281 (both non-supercharged and supercharged are identical). It looks awesome in Silver.
Anyone else considering the Saleen Mustang versus the GTO?
FYI- For those who do not know, Saleen (the same company that builds the Saleen S7 and the Ford GT) builds the Saleen Mustang on the base Mustang GT and then the car is sold through select Ford dealerships and gets the full 3-year 36,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty. The car is a very limited production car (around 1200 units a year I think) so you will not see a lot of these babaies on the road :D
Granted the price is more than the GTO but was wondering if anyone else was considering this car as an alternative to the GTO.
Price for the S281 is approx. $40k for the non-supercharged (325HP) and $47K for the supercharged (400HP) versions.
Thanks.
Nocturn 11-03-2004, 03:43 PM I doubt it because of the price, and the fact that its still a mustang. GTO guys like the rareity of their car, which you dont get with 200K mustangs produced a year.
BRMike 11-03-2004, 04:14 PM Just a couple nit picks. First, the Ford GT was designed and is built by Ford's SVT group.
I would consider the Saleen Mustang's to be rare, but they will be roughly $10,000 more than a GTO.

YEAH...on the track!
No seriously...I don't think there are to many Mustang fans here. Don't get me wrong I definately have respect for the Saleen.
I can't believe there is a NON-supercharged Saleen  ...for $40k? $47k for 400hp?
Dude, wait for the '05 GTO that comes w/400hp for about $34k (MSRP) then you can spend the $13k to supercharge and mod the hell out of that LS2 beast! B)
forestdweller 11-03-2004, 05:20 PM I just heard from my dad about a Saleen he's seen sitting outside the service center of the local ford dealer for a while. The woman inside was laughing about it; the engine had blown while drag racing at the local strip and the owner was trying to get them to fix it under warranty (unsucessfully).
CSiJason 11-03-2004, 07:18 PM Drag racing is considered abuse and racing or abuse (even on if performed on the street) is grounds to get warrenty claims denied on things like the drivetrain and powerplant.
I agree, for the money, the new Saleen is going to be pretty over priced. Far more over priced than the GTO is for what you get. (Granted the 05 Saleen is sexy, it is 5x more likely to get pulled over by the police if going a little faster on the highway compared to a more stealthy looking GTO.)
TheJizzer 11-03-2004, 08:50 PM Ok oK.. Not to pick on FORD -- but to me a 20K NEON that runs 13s is still a neon at the end of the day.
Same for a 47K Mustang -- DUDE at the end of the day it is still a MUSTANG!
I would not spend 40K on a GTO either! for 47K my a** is in a Vette. And yes the new Vette (though only seats 2) runs a solid 12.7 -- Lower as per #s from owners.
Anyway -- no way in hell I am gonna pay 40K let alone 47K for a Mustang == That is why Ford sells them for 26K.
sickgoatlover 11-03-2004, 09:16 PM Ummmmmmm. Yeah.......... What he said! 47K + taxes for a mustang? Sorry, no way!
2005 GTO, bought roughly in Sept. of 2006 for 29kish + a magna charger for 4500, and
boom! :hysterical:
500hp+ GTO for 35K.
Mustang what?
BLKGTO 11-06-2004, 10:43 AM Well I can't argue with logic. At $47K the Supercharged Saleen is a bit pricey consdering the C6 is the same price.
I wish Pontiac would show some official pics on the 2005 GTO. For the money it's hard to argue with the value of the GTO. Also, 400 normally aspirated HP is always better than 400 supercharged HP IMO.
CSiJason 11-06-2004, 01:07 PM 2005 GTO
04GOATGERM 11-06-2004, 07:18 PM Where you get that picture Jason? Is that an actual privatly owned 2005? :o
Nocturn 11-06-2004, 08:46 PM It could be an 04 with scoops.......OHHhhhhhoOOOHhhhh guess well never know lol.
Goat Lover 11-06-2004, 09:04 PM ive seen multiple pics of this one on here before... Pretty shure its an 05... I think this one said pontiac instead of GTO ont he trunk.... That may have been a different one but i still remmeber this one on here somewhere and its an 05

Sure you will... Here is proof!
Goat Lover 11-07-2004, 01:43 AM AHHA! I REMEMBERED RIGHT! IT DOES SAY PONTIAC ON THE BACK! AND 6.0!!!!!!
Whats sad is im actually excited that i remembered something this small from a few months ago, lol
Nocturn 11-07-2004, 02:16 AM Oh you just had to go and ruin my fun.... :D
Its weird that they changed the emblem to say pontiac in stead of GTO.
When asked on the 04 (which doesnt say pontiac anywhere on the car) they said they figured with 9 arrow badges on the car that it was enough...
Interesting that they changed it...

Wow, coool...Jeremy likeyyy!
BLKGTO 11-07-2004, 06:13 AM Yes, I'm liking these pics. I like the recessed GTO lettering on the back fascia.
Hope the engine note is loader than the C6.
Pulse Red 04GTO 11-07-2004, 11:06 AM I like the hood scoops of the 05 and will most likely get one for my 04 when they become available from the dealership. The rear end exit bumper of the 05 looks like ****!! Plastic molding?? It looks tacky and cheap, familar to a Grand Am or GTP. IMO

It is my understanding that the grey plastic piece in the center of the rear bumper is removeable, and thus is easily painted to match the car.
Personaly, I like the two tone look of it. The rear bumper is almost overwhelming in size otherwise.

Yeah, I agree with you on that one CSiJason. One of the biggest reasons I got a black one...it doesn't have as much of that effect.

Yea, I'm just hoping the Cyclone Grey is different enough looking than the center part that it doesnt suddenly look huge again. If it does, i'm pulling the center part out and having it painted dark gunmetal along with the front lower grill. (auto-x grill)
