Ok, I just finished filling up my tank in my GTO when I saw a 65 GTO drive by in the street. I hurried up into my GOAT and took off to try and catch up to it..... I easily caught up to it, then pulled up next to it at the stoplight. The car looked nice up close and looked like it was restored fully. A young teen was driving it, I assume maybe 16 or 17 and a old man about 70 was in the passengers seat. The young kid revved up his engine real loud and I looked over........ He gave me thumbs up and was nodding his head like bad a** car. I immediately returned the rev and **** my LS1 sounded way better over his old goat. The old man just kinda looked at my car but didn't really give any facial expression. I assumed it was his GOAT and he's probably passing it down to his grandson? I bet he's one of those that wanted the new goat to be retro? :P Anyways, I didn't really wanna race his car, but since the young revved it I had to show him just how the GTO has improved over 40 years. Light turned green, and I blew him away by probably 7 car lengths........I slowed down and let him catch up to me. The kid just kept nodding and I returned the favor. The grandpa didn't look to happy :woot: I felt bad afterwards, but a kill is a kill.............even if it's one from our GTO history.

Wonder if anyting was done to it...
Personally I prefer the sound of an ol poncho block to the new corporate engines, but im a bit biased.

Just about anyone would prefer the sound of an old GTO or old muscle car. Thats one area were old cars have new ones beat.

Cool...that's a fun one.
I think the closest you could get on the sound is maybe SLP Loudmouth or Stainlessworks.
Shoot...just add some cutouts right after the headers and open 'em up! :o

It look restored but probably was a rebuilt stock 65 GTO engine? What exactly was in a 65 and how much horsepower and torque did those have?? 64GTO you know?

I guess this a generational thing? I've never owned a old hardcore muscle car and enjoy the sound of the newer muscle cars better. The old ones sound too beastly for me, but some love that.

It really depends on the exhaust on the car, Borla on Lt1s sounds pretty good, but I perfer the deeper more full sound of the the older cars (myne at least).

The new ones sound nice but the old ones have it beat. As for HP a 65 GTO came standard with a 335hp( 428lbft for both engines i believe) 389 with a 4 barrel and an optional 360HP tripower which was purchased by about 1/3 of buyers back than. Now many more have been fitted with tripowers over the years. If the tripower was stock I would say it would be a low 14 second car and a high 14 for a 4 barrel. Your 04 took it and it should have.
