: autoshow info
miamigto 11-09-2004, 03:50 AM Just attended the south florida autoshow this past weekend here in sunny Miami Florida and of course check out the 05 GTO. Next to the car they had a brief description of the cars performance specs and one I noticed to be different from every thing this site and other have reported was the torque output. The plaque next the car said 400hp and 400lbs torque???. I took some pics with my camera phone but have to dwn load them. So the question is does the car have 395lb or 400lbs of torque I would like think that Pontiac would not make a mistake on the specs at the autoshow but who knows???...
btw the car looks sweet the scoops are killer and rear end has hudge pipes. I asked about the apperance pkg and the 18 wheels and they knew nothing about that. every thing inside is identical to the 04 NO BIG RED BUTTON LOL, the hood scoops donot appear funtional, engine looks totally bad a**, nice wing on the rear deck too. The car was red with black interior and parked directly across the aisle from the vette at the chevy display lol. quite a few people were gathered around it and i heard many saying **** 400hp!!! wow i had a big smile :D and a :P for the mustang boys... anyways
miamigto 11-09-2004, 04:17 AM opps forgot this also which was on the info next to the car at the sfla autoshow
0-60 4.6 sec :D
and
1/4 mile 13.0 secs  for the 05 gto.
CSiJason 11-09-2004, 06:28 AM Hmm, i'd like to see this shot of the display that shows 400/400 with the rated 1/4 mile and 0-60 specs.
Felix C. 11-09-2004, 06:36 AM I was at the show last Saturday and viewed the scoops with the hood open.
The scoops can be made functional. Appears the owner needs to make the necessary mods. There is a rubber gasket which can be removed from each inlet to allow for air intrusion into the engine bay. Probably rain as well.
No Pontiac reps. were present when I viewed the GTO. I examined the car for 30minutes. I also went back to the GTO after viewing all of the other cars. You recall the counter was right next to the GTO and it was empty!
Strange, in that no pricing was provided for the GTO as with other cars there.
Honestly, prefer the clean hood of the 04 and the single outlet twin pipe exhaust compared to the oversized trumpet/bell shaped exhaust tips with the big GTO lettering inbetween the tips. Personal opinion only but prefer understated cars.
I do not know what you mean by the big red button.
I liked the GTO and the STS Cadillac best of all cars present. Mustang was nice but interior was cheap. GTO interior reminded me of the BMW vehicles present.

If you look at the interior shots of the 2005 GTO on this site you'll see a big red button to the left of the steering wheel that serves as a kill switch for the test mules.

...the hood scoops donot appear funtional
You know...when the '04 GTO specs first came out they were a little bit lower +/- 5 hp, +/- .3 sec on 0-60 and 1/4 mi times. These numbers started getting a little better as it was hitting the streets. So, who knows...by mid December the hp/tq might change to 405/410.
I'm really disappointed that the hood scoops aren't functional. I wasn't really believing that they would be BUT there was a little glimmer of hope. :jumpon: So now...the '05 is a car that has a (lower end) compedator (don't need to say who or what) that has the same NON-FUNCTIONAL scoop(s)?!!! How embarrasing...
Please don't flame me...just making an observation. :(
CSiJason 11-09-2004, 07:27 PM Like he said, they can easily be made functional by removing the cover from the rear. I have no doubt they did this to keep water and such out so people wouldnt complain about it.
The 'bell shape' exhaust tips? Little exagerated are you? Pictures i've seen show them straight tips. A little big at 3.5" each but hardly excessive for a 6.0L V8 car. (Who's gonna tell you otherwise? Some ricer in a Toyota Matrix?)
Remember, the hood is has an optional scoop delete. Otherwise, dislike for the scoops is a stupid reason to dislike the 05.
The embossed GTO logo in the rear looks good. Beats the hell out of a sticker or something. Remember, that middle piece is also removeable from the bumper. Thus making it easy to modify, paint or fill in the GTO if you so please. Or better yet, get the Arrowhead Performance sidepipes, side skirts to match and the smooth rear bumper. (No exhaust openings) Nails down your two main gripes in one shot.
Nocturn 11-09-2004, 10:53 PM 3.5" really? I have dual 3" on my TA now and they are a bit large. I can only imagine 3.5" on the GTO.
The scoops may still be functional, they may just come with plugs for rain or such....
HAHA RAMAIR I all over again. :afro:

They might be 3" but I thought I read 3.5" somewhere. 4" is big, 3.5" is also big, but then again like I said, who's gonna complain when they hear that sweet note from them. :P
Edit: Hmm not too big IMO. But no doubt, any larger and it wouldnt look good.

Yeah I know...I was just all hung up on thinking that functional was the opening scoop fed to the intake. I guess it doesn't really matter (Noctern just learned me on another thread). :D
I do plan on getting the AP sidepipes and closing up the rear. Just waiting to see when they come out with some prices on their items. B)

reminds me of the RX8 rear end a bit...
rcampbell 11-10-2004, 08:39 AM Just got the quarterly magazine from pontiac. They also use both the 400 and 395 numbers in the same article.
TheJizzer 11-10-2004, 08:53 AM Pontiac never said the Hood would be functional. Every article I have read said that the scoops "Let fresh air in to the engine COMPARTMENT!"

was wondering if you also notice the plaque with the info on it like did with the specs showing 400hp and 400lbs torque?
Felix C. 11-11-2004, 04:06 PM I saw the plaque next to the vehicle.

 Insulted in this thread or elsewhere in the forum??? I'm confused!?!
MatadorRed69 11-11-2004, 10:54 PM I did notice they now list the torque at 400 lb-ft on the GM media site. It was 395 before, so maybe they have upped the torque.

Miami, can you upload your pictures. I'd like to see the O5 in red. Wow, 13.0 flat in the quarter, that's not too shabby. Probably won't be too difficult to get the car into the high 12's.
400hp/400lb tq, trust me!!!

Your not the only one... I dont see anything negative in this thread towards you Felix. Whats with the beef?
Huh, go figure... They did change the site to indicate 400/400 just like the C6. Glad they decided against marketing it with a different power rating. (No doubt it has exactly the same engine anyhow.) Now I just wonder how it 'feels' in comparison to a LS1 GTO? Hmm.... :woot:
DrachenGTO 11-15-2004, 12:18 AM I just came back from seeing the '05 GTO in person also at the South Florida International Auto Show and it was well worth the trip, in addition to seeing such cars as the Cadillac Sixteen, Ford GT and one of the Koenigsegg supercars *drool* among others.
Here's some notes from my visit.
The hood scoops definitely look better in person than they do in most photographs of the car, although I think that's a true statement for the GTO itself. They have some plastic covers blocking off the vents but hopefully they won't be too much of a pain to remove.
Having seen the rear end in person, it has won me over. I really do like the re-design for this year and the new exhaust is a nice change. It's definitely a personal preference and to be honest either rear end would have been fine.
Staying on the subject of the exhaust, I got down on my hands and knees with a tape measure and I concluded that the diameter of the exhaust tubing atleast after the mufflers (where I measured) was between 3.5" and 3.75" (closer to the latter I'd say).
Apparently Pontiac was supposed to have had some literature/media packs to hand out about the '05 GTO but they never made it to the show. One of the representatives took my details and said that Pontiac would send me one of these media packs in about a week or so.
I'll try and post some pictures in a bit as soon as I get them off my digital camera.
Edit: With reference to that GM press release, I love how they call the hood scoops "twin air scoops" when in stock form they are completely blocked off!
