: Should I wait for the 05?
Hey everyone, this is my first post over here.
Iam interested and basicaly set on getting a GTO but iam torn on wether to get a 04 or wait for the 05. I can get the 04 now for around 27,000 iyh and there will probobly be another sale for thanksgiving weekend. My basic question is when will the 05 be out and how much extra would I spend if I bought it as soon as the dealer got them. (I read all of the previous post on msrp but i would like to get some more specific info) iyh
Thanks Alot!
04GOATGERM 11-11-2004, 05:09 AM Weeell...I was waiting for an '05 but fell into temtation with the deal I got for $27,600. I was very excited when I heard the news about 50 more horses (LS2) and slight body modifications. I started to think that the LS2 would be nice buuuut, when or how long would it take for bugs (if any) to be worked out of the debut engine not to mention how long it would take for the aftermarket to get online w/ the LS2. So I jumped at the oportunity for a car about $8k less. Just my thoughts. :type:
Ohh and welcome to the boards JSU! B)
Nocturn 11-11-2004, 05:32 AM The 05's arnt going to be here to the later part of winter. Assuming you could get it for MSRP which at most (non marked up) should be approximately 33,690, and seeing 04's for 27K, you would save around 6 grand, easily enough to make the 04 faster than the 05, or do any body modifacations that you would want that the 05 has.

Well, seeing as a great deal of LS1 engine components will work with the LS2, and the LS2 is the new base engine in the C6 Corvette, the aftermarket will be all over it in a heartbeat. Their are already at least a few brands of bolt-on headers available for the C6 that may work in the new GTO also that are tuned to the LS2's displacement and such.
It'd be easy with $6k or more to improve the LS1's output to that of the LS2 or no doubt better, BUT for those who cant modify the car for the sake of warrenty or due to the female significant other or just whatever, the LS2 will no doubt be the solution to those persons woes.
TheJizzer 11-11-2004, 08:15 AM My choice was to get the 04 for $6K+ less than the 05 and wait until the release of the "NEW" GTO in 07 to get all excited. Or hopefully a Chevelle.
How much faster is the 2005 vs. the 2004? 2004 is 0-60 in 5.3 so how much lower is the 2005?
never mind. I got my answer. (4.6)
gto_in_nc 11-11-2004, 09:32 AM Here's the way I'd look at it - do the changes in the '05 impress you as worth the difference in price you will pay?

Geeeez are they really claiming 4.6 as the 0-60 on the '05? That's faster than i thought, I was thinking around 4.8 or 4.9, that's pretty schweeet news though. Where'd you find this out JCS?
Mike D 11-11-2004, 10:53 AM Yes
HOLDENON 11-11-2004, 12:56 PM I got a 26K quote on a new 6 speed 04 with one phone call... that's a long way from sticker on an LS2 car, sweet as it may be. I would bet money that they're going to roll for even less than that in the coming months.
so, it's really a personal decision based on financial means (maybe 7K isn't that big of a deal for you to get what you want) and what you plan to use it for. if you mainly commute to and from work or if you don't keep your cars long anyways... save the cash now and get an 04. otherwise, don't be shocked if the 05's come out and you regret the fire sale pricing on 04's.
nick_the_brit 11-11-2004, 05:51 PM wait a few months and pick up a used one for a lot less than 26k....as it happens I will be selling mine (red/red 6manual) in the coming months...nice plug, eh?
04's are seriously cheap now, you want to pay 6-8 thousand more for an 05 car that looks slightly different? Besides, my 350hp is PLENTY fast enough for me.
My dealer gave me an estimate of $3000 + $3500 pontiac discount off. I would realy like to get one within the next few weeks. What kind of sales do theyt normaly have durring thanksgiving weekend and how much cheaper do you think the 04s will be when the 05s come out?
I have question on insurance. How much more expensive do you think the insurance on a 04 gto is than my 96 deville. I guess the issue of liability and insurace on the car comes into play also.

Depends on your age, driving history, and the company you go with.
iam having second thoughts about getting a gto. There are a few reasons that iam considering a differant car. 1. The back seat is realy hard to get into. 2. I cant find any info on safety. 3. Stiff/clunky clutch. 4. Iam not sure how well the handling compares to other cars in its class (i liked it though) but most reviews say it lacks finese.

Well there you go... you just made the choice on a 04 or 05.....get neither
yeah guess that solves my first problem :)
DeathMonkey 11-18-2004, 11:15 PM I'm waiting for a 2005, and I'll tell ya why.
1. I would agree that the aftermarket is going to be all over the LS2 like hookers on Snoop Dogg.
2. No replacement for displacement. Ever. Any technique that works on the 04 engine will work even better on the '05.
3. Revised suspension geometry would lead me to believe that upgrades will be even more effective at making the ride/handling better.
4. You KNOW some goof in a bar is going to mock your '04 what with his "oh, you HAPPY with your MERE 350hp, wee man?". Thats a lot of a** to beat. I just don't have the time =)
...and come on, non-functional hood scoops! They'll be cool as heck until I install a custom carbon fiber piece!
TheJizzer 11-18-2004, 11:21 PM I still cannot get by the $6000+ price difference between the 04 and 05 right now. That is a lot of $$
Well I bit the bullet today and bought a black 6speed with red interior :) .
Nocturn 11-22-2004, 01:07 AM Congrats
Thanks, I grasbbed the last m6 in cali with that color combo :)
GTOlvr 11-22-2004, 09:16 PM Congratulations go out to JSU, on his new GTO. I'm still waiting for my 05. The dealer tells me to look for it sometime after christmas. My build date was Nov 15th. :)

SWEET!
It just got back from the dealer today, they chromed the stock wheels and put on that 5 year no wax paint coat (and did something to the leather also) Its awsome!
Nocturn 11-23-2004, 12:06 AM pics are needed now....post them....OR ELSE!!!

Gimmick...
BRMike 11-23-2004, 07:52 AM I knew you'd come around. You won't regret your purchase!
Now as Nocturn posted... It's time for pictures!
wild goat 11-28-2004, 12:56 PM I think you made the right decision. Not only is it $6000 cheaper than the 05', don't forget to add the savings on the financing, which is between 2-3K. And i'm sorry if I offend anyone on the 05' styling, but that rearend looks cheap, going back to cheesy pontiac styling with the bold "GTO". The 04' is very stealth, clean looking, but I sure do wish it had 400 hp. To me, the 50 pony's aren't worth the price.

Where did you hear this?? I have not heard of anything revised as far as suspension goes. Hmm...
formula79 11-28-2004, 08:02 PM Nice! Enjoy the 04, even with the 05's imporvments, it is a great value!

According to one of the mainstream mags (C&D I believe) '05 outlook the suspension stays the same.
