Went to visit my mother over the weekend who lives up in northern CA. I was coming back on highway 680 minding my own business cruising at about 80 in the GOAT. I had my girlfriend with me, so getting all crazy in THE GOAT really wasn't my plan for the day. Anyways, first off I see a 2002-2004 Porsche TURBO with some preppy looking guy who probably doesn't know a thing about cars fly by me at about 90. I kinda wanted to gun it and maybe tangle with him, but I decided not to. I'm assuming the Porsche TURBO would have smoked my a**................but u never know?

Anyways, still crusing minding my own business when out of nowhere a 2003 Ford Lightning pulls up right next to me on my left. I'm 25, and this guy looked about between 20-25 also. I looked right over and he gave me a rev..........and yes it had that supercharge whine sound. He gunned it and took off. I said, "screw it" and gunned it in 5th gear...............he had a good four car lengths on me and I could tell he was floored...........dropped it into 6th gear at about 120mph then just caught him and flew right by him.............I even waved as I passed him at 130mph. He slowed down and smiled as he knew I smoked him. I preceeded to slow down also and noticed he was maintaining a slow enough speed to stay behind me. About 3 exits later I saw him in my rearview mirror get off at the exit.............with his tail between his a** :woot:

I love putting FORD guys in there place. I mean he wanted to tangle...........

I know our GOATS have the advantage at top end but what about in the 1/4 mile. I know a guy that wants to race me and i dont know if I can take him or not. I mean I will take my Butt whoopin with the rest of them but I would like to know if I can talk some smack before the race or not.

Some are running mid-low 13's bone stock.

2003 ford lighting 0-60 5.8 sec , 1/4 mile in 13.9
you just might be able to talk some schitt
cuz gtos are running mid 13's
miss shift or dont get out of the hole ur done.... if i was u i would <smoke that ford for all of us> lol

Heres the local Lightning owner, must say great kill. But ur stats are a bit off , the 03 04 L is capable of a 5.1 second to 60 dash and 1/4mi time of 13.6. So don't get struck by Lightning, burned goat smells bad. So I must say again congrats on the kill. Now let me go throw up! lol

Not to nit pick but what where you doing shifting into 6th at 120mph? You should have just been shifting into 5th gear at that speed!! Your would have been twice in far in front of him had you shifted correctly.

I was in 5th gear to begin with at about 80mph just crusing minding my own business. Those of us that own a GTO know that 80mph in the goat feels like nothing and even speeds of 100 to 110mph are relatively stable also. Anyways, I just stayed in 5th gear at my coasting speed of 80mph went he took off. Gunned it in 5th all the way to 120mph, then dropped it into 6th and blew him away. Does it really matter anyways? I killed his a** and a kill is a kill no matter how far you are ahead.......as long as you're ahead??? Nit picking a GOAT kill? Are u a Mustang Ford guy? lol

Had we raced from a dead stop I can imagine my gear shifting would have been different, but like I said we started out at 80mph.

The point Muff was making is that you are seriously short shifting your car. 80mph is waaay to low for 5th gear that goes all the way to 153mph @6k RPMs. Let the engine rev!

As they said no one is saying its not a kill, but downshift that puppy and let the fur fly.

I did the same thing once, racing @ 60 or so gunned it in 5th....said..."wait...wtf am I doing?" downshifted to 3rd and walked away.

Hahaha...you're funny! :hysterical:

My roommate has a 99 Lightning and he says I will whoop his a$$$$. We raced when mine was brand new, and I was able to pull on him slightly, now with a couple of mods and almost 10,000 miles on it. There is no comparison. I would say go for it. If your car is stock, you shold be able to talk some smack, but I would keep it to a min, just in case of a launching problem. But from a roll, you have it no problem. Good luck.
