Those filters are not the most efficient, and will likely hurt performance more than help it. There is not a lot of surface area, and a few of the local import guys have complained of the end of the filter becoming detached unexpectedly.

Ya, the shield pretty much kills airflow to the filter. You want air to go straight into the filter from the side to make it less restrictive. This pretty much puts a damper on that. Just a good ol K&N is where its at.

Your just blocking airflow with that, not lowering the air temp.

Don't mess with that thing. Just get the K&N package.
