: LS7
GranturismoOmalagato 12-06-2004, 11:14 AM B) Well I saw it on the C5/C6 dedicated website and the official platform for the 2006 Corvette "Z06" is in... I dont have the link right now but im sure if you google it you can find what I found. In basics it uses a new LS7 Aluminum OHV V8 ( i didnt have to tell you that ) I think it retains the same 6.0 Liters as an Ls2 ( ? ) anyways the important numbers I read were that its technically rated at 512 Hp ( rated at 500 ) and has a different built chassis than a base C6 making its curb weight an amazing 2900 pounds. ...... Some of you who know chevy know that the "unwritten" GM rule is that no passenger car shall surpass the power rating on the same year corvette ( makes it look bad or something ) So If the new would- be "Judge" ( whatever they call it hopefully one of the ones I came up with :P ) I am guessing they will only rate it at around 450 - 480 HP.. But I will not be surprised if GM decides to don the 500 hp beast under the Hood of whatever factory produced special version of the GTO will come to pass... one can sure hope so.. It has been a while since a muscle car has gotten an "under rated" horsepower figure for whatever the reasons. Ex. Chevy 409 under rated to "trick insurance companies" and 426 Hemi ( their not really 425 LOL ) Keep your fingers crossed :type: - Don
GranturismoOmalagato 12-06-2004, 11:21 AM  oops I guess admin has me beat... http://forums.gminsidenews.com/showthread....p?threadid=8066 (http://forums.gminsidenews.com/showthread.php?threadid=8066) Sorry Branden and guys I am feeling dumb now... and the LS7 is 7 Liters lol. But anyways I guess maybe the new OFFICIAL news is the 2900 pnd weight.. but I read that also as a inside thing a few months ago from car craft... oh well maybe theyll make a 2900 pnd GTO :flush:
But it is weird I read some conflicting information in the latest issue of Automobile which stated the Z06 will have a 6.3L engine making 500hp. I don't know what to believe but I guess I just have to wait a few more weeks until the car officially is unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show where the real stats will come available.
bluemax 12-06-2004, 11:50 AM Chevy was playing with a 6.4 liter 3 valve engine, but could not meet emmisions standards and make the hp. At least not at this point in time. So they went with the 7.0 liter 427 cubic inch option instead, which also has greater marketing strength due to the history of the BBC 427.
TheJizzer 12-06-2004, 11:55 AM That car is going to be VERY fast!
TheJizzer 12-06-2004, 11:59 AM I read somewhere that the Ford GT weighs about 3400lbs has 550hp/500ft-lb and runs 11.7 in the 1320..
Now the Z06 is 2900lbs has 512hp/500ish ft-lb should run an easy low 11. I bet owners will be getting 10s stock! HOLY ****!
I really hope this is true!
GranturismoOmalagato 12-06-2004, 01:08 PM well Ford GT and SRT10 are 500, however since the Z06 weighs 500 pnds less just about it has an advantage and depending on its gearing will easilly see low 11s possibly high 10s.. I kind of want to see what they rate the top speed. definatly shall be touching 200 :D can you imagine a 10 second car with a top speed of 200 mph ? I think I officially have found my new dream car.. and for once the first 5 letters arent ahem "Lambo". But what my post is more concerned about is hoping that the GTO will see a version of the LS7 B)
I am sorry that was not in the Automobile Magazine that was in the latest issue of Motor Trend. Also the car is supposed to weigh 3100 not 2900 lbs. But 200 lbs. with a car that will have that much power will not be a great disadvantage.
Ride9 12-06-2004, 03:17 PM Jim Hall is very credible in the Corvette community and he has some good info on the Z06. Can I post the link? He's not a sponser. Take this info seriously as he has been accurate with the C5, C6 and as you will see in January, the new Z06.
Mods, delete the link if it's not appropriate...It's a Corvette site so I am gonna try:
CorvetteLs7.com (http://www.corvettels7.com/)
forestdweller 12-06-2004, 04:37 PM According to that link...Forged steel crankshaft, 6-bolt forged steel main, Dry-Sump oiling, Titanium connecting rods? That's a racing engine! I wouldn't have expected they would take the engine from the C5R and make it mainstream. You could buy one of these 15 years from now w/200k miles on it and it would probably just be getting broken in :D
Now if they can only price it near the previous Z06, that would be one heck of a value!
I think it's awesome that each LS7 is going to be hand-built. That really shows how serious GM is about performance.
GranturismoOmalagato 12-06-2004, 05:35 PM yes it certainly will be an amazing machine... I wish the Ford GT was as cheap as it :( But Im questioning the price now though... only because of how much quality and performance exceeds the last Z06 compared to a base C5. retail on a C6 is around 48K do you think the Z06 will stay around 60K ? ( 22 cheaper than a Viper SRT10 :D ) Its interesting to be this young compared to some of you older members who have been around years compared to me and seen alot of cars. It is kind of scary to see where the world is going with technology and speed. I know we hit Landspeed record in jet cars at 800 mph and Top fuels go 0 - 320 in under 5 seconds.. but think about this folks we are living in some FAST times.. and I think I kinda like it.. Yeah we are just now catching back up to what we left behind in the early 70s as far as all these Hi performance horsepower cars. But now that we can achieve 30 mpg for a bunch of these new V8s.. hopefully does this mean we will go even further than last time ? Does this mean We will see the cadillac " Sweet 16" ( V16 ) with 1000 horsepower as a sports car in 15 years ? Wowsers :zippy: the Marvels of science.. and mans need for technology and tools and speed.. and is it safe and neccesary or who cares its fun.. ever see 2001: a space odyysey ? hehe makes you think.. ack sorry im getting into an essay now and just typing.. thats what college does... but anyway now this has become a concept car and speed thread haha... someone please bring up some Bonneville Salt Flat cars they know of :type: oor maybe the 900 Hp Bugatti W12
Ride9 12-06-2004, 05:56 PM Alot of people with some knowledge are estimating 68-70k. The C6 Z-51 was supposed to take the place of the outgoing Z06 peformance-wise. It's close, but still a little soft on the track(compared to the Z06). I believe DH's target was to get 3/4 the performance of the 02-04 Z06 out of the Z-51 optioned C6.
JohnPaulPSU 12-08-2004, 06:06 AM I thought that the 427 would be reserved for the Blue Devil. What are they saving for the Blue Devil, this new Z06 seems to have taken it's place.
Nocturn 12-08-2004, 04:12 PM The Blue devil is it is produced will be a higher trim than the new Z car, rumors of a TT Z engine, or perhaps a SCed application. Something along the lines of 625 HP. Only rumors though.
Goat Lover 12-08-2004, 05:01 PM Mmmmmm... I love the smell of the things to come in the future.
rlsedition 01-02-2005, 04:50 PM As others have said, all the Jim Hall stuff sounds accurate except the weight - believe the Motor Trend article (about 3100 lbs), as many heavier items were added to the ZO6 as well as those that were subtracted. Also believe the $65-70k pricing - all that stuff won't come for nothing versus today's ZO6.
Nocturn 01-07-2005, 02:52 AM The Z06 added many more high price items then the previous. So if your looking for that bargin bin uber car get a regular vette. The Z51 can practically match the old Z06 for a cheaper price. If you want something newer and faster then the new Z06 may be something to look for.
