I know the automatics are slightly slower than the manuals, but they should still run 13's right? What are the best times people here have achieved in a bone stock auto? Also, what is the best way to launch? At idle or what RPM while holding the brake? TC on or off? What is the best way to get the best times in an automatic?

Moved this thread here to the GTO Racing Tech Forum as it is more appropriate.

Ok....

First off (I AM TALKING BONE STOCK) here is how I ran and my score

TC - ON (Could not hook up with TC off and did not have time for "experimenting"
Hold foot on break, hit gas slightly to achieve about 2500 rpms, when light turns green let off break and mash gas (I bet 3000 would be better)

I got a 2.2 60' and a 13.8 @ 102 I think - I cannot remember... if you do a search for "track" you can find my post...I will look for it also.

I had Full tire pressure, 3/4 tank of gas, everything in my car including change-cds-everything..and my 180lb butt.

I am sure I can run 13.4 easy with this car (bone stock). I will do it in the Spring.

The thing I found is that with TC off I would go past the 60' sideways or spinning like a hamster in his wheel on crack.

Traction control off, do a healthy burnout. Bring the car up to 1200 RPM under the brake, with the shifter in "3". Release brake and mash accelerator to the floor. I ran 13.59 with a 1.99 60' backed up with 2 13.61s, bone stock on stock tires. It's important to get the tires hot or you won't hook. If yu need any more info shoot me a PM.

I read somewhere that if you put the goat in park at the line then shift it pack into drive it goes into "launch mode" Im pretty shure it was a official pontiac site but im not shure. I also know that most auto's have severe torq management controlls and I saw on a doge avenger site that if you disconnect the break sensor on the back of the break and hook it to a switch then when your at the line to simply turn the sensor off the engine wont know to run the torq management program. Not too shure if it works, or if it will work on the gto, but if do that and a burnout you should be able to launch completely stuck to your seat.

I need to learn too.

So right now I am thinking

1. Have the car in 3
2. Do a burnout
3. 1500-2500rpm under brake
4. let off brake and mash it

that about right?

4. let off brake and mash it

And without slicks you'll probably spin and spin and your 60 ft. will be cr@p.

Try this one.

4. let off the brake and "feather" the throttle until you hook up then mash it.

This step is the tricky one. Not enough throttle and your too low in the rpm band and you time will be cr@p. Too high and you spin or wheelhop your way to a lousy 60 ft. time and another slow cr@ppy time.

Practice and learn what your GTO likes. Find out what it responds best to and the times will be low and consistent. :)

LET ME TELL U HOW ITS DOWN GIRLS, I CONMEND U FOR GOING THE GTO ROUTE, BUT TO RUN WELL, DO AS FOLLOWS: 1. GET IN THE CAR 2. HEAD TO THE DEALER 3. TRADE IT IN FOR A 6SPD. :hysterical:

This is not an A4 vs. M6 debate. Please keep the advice to real tips.

Best thing I've found is w/ T/C off, start with about 2/3 throttle and then once you hit about 15mph or so punch it. I only got wheel spin a couple of times with that.

The only time that I raced this year I had about 600 miles on the car. When I tried running it with the tc on I ran like a 15.2 second quarter mile time, so I definitely suggest having it off. Everything on my car is stock. Just make sure to heat the tires up good. The fastest time that I ran is a 14.2 in the 1/4 but my motor wasnt broke in. I have an a4. Also after I do my burnout I put the car in drive rev the engine to about 2500 and mash it. My car does great leaving it in drive the whole time.
