: best way to run 12s
PhantomGTO 12-18-2004, 09:14 PM How would i be able to get my GTO to run 12's while maintaining driveablility using no nitrous, turbo, supercharger, or anything else that would void the warranty. Is it even possible to do without voiding the warranty? Its an automatic, so that makes things slightly more difficult. Anybody??
simple_tek 12-18-2004, 09:18 PM you could do the simple Heads & Cam Swap or get a Free flow exhaust and an CAI
REDGLOW360 12-19-2004, 07:10 AM I would say go with a larger MAF, headers and an exhaust thats recommended to go with it. That should be good for at least 45 hp at the fly. And as for the super charging, turbo, etc, you can do it and not void your warranty. Find a chevy dealership that does alot of corvette work, for whoever they are using for the tech (magnuson, vortech, paxton, etc) they usually set up a parallel warranty that covers all drive line and anything that could be affected by the super charger. I would recommend getting a magnuson if you go that way, I've never seen any problems with them on the vettes and havent had any problem with mine, most chevy dealerships use them.
DANSLS1 12-19-2004, 08:21 AM Headers, exhaust, lose the spare, oil pan guard (or go w/ the lightweight BMR one), underhood insulation cover, drag radials and a tune and you should be there. I'd recommend a custom dyno tune - especially if you change the intake as well as the exhaust. I'm not sure you need anything more than a larger smooth tube between the MAF and TB - but if you get a different MAF and your tuner can make it work, it allows you to use an oiled filter w/ no worries because you switch the stock system back on before you take it to the dealership.

Very easy as it has been done on my buddies GTO. A cold air kit, tune and converter. Even on the stock tires, he ran high 12's. With drag radials, easy 12.5's as you would be able to use the converter to full advantage.
If substituting the converter, long tube headers with/without cats might get you there. Drag radials will also help with any mods you do as it will allow you to get the power to the ground.

is there a way to have an ATI and not void warranty? I know it comes with a warranty for itself so there should be something you can set up.
REDGLOW360 12-20-2004, 07:11 PM I dont think so, unless you go through a dealership cause they can cover the warranty even if GM doesnt want to. I think part of it is is that if the dealership does it than they know it was done right and the chance that something goes wrong will be slim, so if something does then go wrong they know it was their fault or part defect in which case what ever company they are using will cover the costs of repairs.

So if I did I would have to get the supercharger installed through them?
Nocturn 12-20-2004, 07:29 PM I'd talk to the dealer to make sure, some consider anything thats a bolt on covered, and others consider any modifacation an instant void of the warrenty, so It can vary.
YellowGoatNick 12-20-2004, 07:37 PM Ok thanks guys.Ill check it out.
REDGLOW360 12-20-2004, 08:08 PM Nocturns right, cause depending on what kind of warranty you got (whether through the dealership or GM) it will have the specifics. But like I said if you go through a dealership they can honor the warranty or give you a new one on top of what you have, I guess its just a matter of finding one.

You could also temporarly take out the passenger seat. That's about what...60-70lbs?
