2005 GTO PRICING, FUEL ECONOMY ANNOUNCED
DETROIT – General Motor’s Pontiac division today announced pricing for the 2005 GTO. The new model represents the most powerful production GTO ever built, sporting 400 horsepower, enhanced brakes, new styling options and zero-to-sixty performance in 4.6 seconds. It begins arriving at dealerships in limited numbers at the end of December.
The manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) is $32,995, which includes destination and freight charges of $700. An optional six-speed close-ratio manual transmission remains the only “extra cost” option at $695.
“Over the past several months, we’ve seen GTO sales steadily increase to an average of well over a thousand units per month,” said Larry Pryg, GTO marketing manager. “By holding the 2005 MSRP very close to the 2004 model, we believe our customers will continue to be attracted to the enhanced performance and styling options available on the new model.”
EPA fuel economy for the GTO equipped with the optional six-speed manual transmission is an estimated 16 miles per gallon (mpg) in city and 25 mpg on the highway. A 2005 GTO with the four-speed automatic is rated at an estimated 16 mpg in city driving and 21 mpg on the highway. Only the automatic transmission is subject to a $1,300 federal gas guzzler tax.
Pontiac is a division of General Motors Corporation (NYSE: GM) and markets the Bonneville, GTO, Grand Prix, Grand Am, Vibe, Sunfire, and Montana. Pontiac sold more than 475,000 vehicles in 2003, ranking third among GM divisions in total sales. In 2004, Pontiac introduced the Montana SV6 crossover sport van and the G6 sedan. The G6 coupe, the V8-powered Grand Prix GXP and the Solstice roadster will follow in 2005 while the G6 convertible launches in early 2006. More information on Pontiac and its products can be found on the division’s website at www.pontiac.com.

Strange, but I see the A4 mileage is 16/21 the same as '04, BUT the GG Tax is now 1300 bucks instead of 1000. So what gives here? Did something change at the CAFE regulations from last year to this year?
Something smells fishy. :zippy:
Omologatu 12-20-2004, 08:22 PM Dont quote me on this, but I think something did change, which accounted for the $300 more dollars, what exactly I dont know, but your thinking correct.
rlsedition 12-20-2004, 09:39 PM Neither 2005 car (auto + manual) did as well on gas mileage as the 2004s. The increased guzzler on the automatic reflects that fact.
Before everyone gets too upset, drive a 2005 and you will find a much stronger powertrain that is well worth the gas mileage reduction, IMO. In my real-world driving of a 2005 manual (much of it stop-and-go), I was averaging about 18 MPG.
silverstreek 12-21-2004, 12:36 AM The extra $300 is because of lower rated fuel economy on the 05.I have driven over 25,000 miles in mixed driving with an automatic 04 and average 18.5.I've gone as high as 145mph and been stuck in 2hr back-ups and it all averages out to the same 18.5.I have gotten 23mpg on all highway at average speed around 85mph.Of coarse if you lead foot it(and you will) it still stays around 15mpg.One note, this car drives very well in the snow provided that traction control is on and you don,t use low gear in either transmission.
Apollo9000 12-21-2004, 12:16 PM I'm acutally surprised that the Automatic's mileage isn't lower. Especially since it cranks such low 0-60 and 1/4 mile numbers.
For the record, I average about 22- 24 mpg in my manual '04 with about 60% highway. I rarely ever go over 70mph and I always have my dash set on the instant MPG display to keep me in check.

REDGLOW360 12-21-2004, 06:01 PM I think the cafe numbers went up for GM for this coming year. More new truck models than car models would change the company average causing the increase. I think it has to do with companies overall #s, my dad tried to explain it once.
Chris3800 12-22-2004, 10:17 PM That mileage on the A4 sucks!
I think I rember the 04 getting as high as 29 with the M6 which is reasonable.
Omologatu 12-22-2004, 10:51 PM Im glad Im coming from the truck market, since my opinion of gas mileage must be different than others. 16/21 is like other worldly for 400hp. Ive got the 345hp "hemi" now, and Im getting a whopping 12mpg.
GTO needs that new 6 speed auto bad. Maybe for 2006?
STSv is getting it for 2006
gaga4gto 01-01-2005, 04:36 AM This question is for all of the current GTO owners, or those who have test driven it. How is the stereo in it. I have searched all over the web for details on this ten speaker system from Blaupunkt. All I know is 6 disc changer and 200 watts...... Can someone hook me up with some details?!?!?!

The stereo blowpunkts.
No trebile, no bass, just mids and the volume is weak. you will need to replace it especially if you like music.

...Its not that bad. Better than average factory, but nothing to brag about.
Actually though radio on mine is really weak, CDs sound again better than average.
GM_Guy81 01-23-2005, 08:17 PM Yeah, the stereo sucks. But right now I have MB quart speakers all the way around, a 12" vega subwoofer and 1200 watts total power, so Im a bit spoiled. When I get my GTO the first thing I do (after tint) is putting in a stereo. Im not going to replace the deck, because I want to keep that clean stock look, but Im going to replace the speakers, amp them and put in a subwoofer.
Actually, Im probably going to take it to Reus Systems, they install custom designed systems that look totally stock but sound AMAZING. I heard one at the LA auto show. Was very impressed.
Stealthgto 02-19-2005, 04:39 PM Hey, I am cool with the gas mileage and besides, the 2005 has 400 HP! :woot:
And I can always upgrade the stereo. Other than that, the car is fabulous! :woot:
mldavis 02-19-2005, 05:37 PM I beg to differ on the Blaupunkt. I don't think the '05 is any different from the '04, but my '05 has bass, treble, balance and fade, plus five preset 'equalizer' functions called "jazz, classical, rock, pop and vocal". Antenna is in the back glass and reception on mine is excellent. It has an "out of town" mode which will allow it to find the 6 strongest stations when you're out crusing and don't want to reset your FM1/FM2/AM stations, so maybe you had the strongest station mode engaged if you had reception problems. Signal strength on my '05 is much better than the whip antenna on my '96 TransAm or my '01 GTP.
So what are you doing with the radio on, anyway. The music comes from the LS2! :D
