: GM Overseas Warranty
gaga4gto 12-21-2004, 04:59 AM I have been recently doing some research to find out whether or not if I can get a special warranty that will cover overseas. Here is my situation:
I am currently residing in Korea and the local car dealers here will order anything I want from GM EXCEPT THE GTO!!!!! Anyway, after coming to, I realized that my only option is to buy from a dealer in the states and ship it over here. Now, the local dealer here already has places that are authorized to do warranty work. I need to know is there any sort of warranty out there for GM that will cover a car that leaves the CONUS (Continental US). Any help would be great.....
Nocturn 12-21-2004, 05:39 AM I wouldn't.....think so. But I could be mistaken. Im pretty sure GM is operating in Korea, so if you imported it would seem logical that any warrenty from here, would apply there. You simply want to email GM and ask if their standard warrenty will still be valid over there.
2000GTPBROTHER 12-22-2004, 11:00 AM Here is a cut and paste of what is in US GM warranty booklets. Not sure if it fully answers your questions.
Touring Owner Service -- Foreign Countries
If you are touring in a foreign country and repairs are needed, take your vehicle to a GM dealer facility, preferably one which sells and services Pontiac vehicles. Once you return to the United States you should provide your dealer with a statement of circumstances, the original repair order, proof of ownership, and any paid receipt indicating the work performed and parts replaced for reimbursement consideration.
Important: Repairs made necessary by the use of improper or dirty fuels and lubricants are not covered under warranty. See your owner manual for additional information on fuel requirements when operating in foreign countries.
Warranty Service -- Foreign Countries
This warranty applies to GM vehicles registered in the United States and normally operated in the United States or Canada. If you have permanently relocated and established household residency in another country, GM may authorize the performance of repairs under the warranty authorized for vehicles generally sold by GM in that country. Contact an authorized GM dealer in your country for assistance.

Not sure if it applies, but list some links that may provide info
gaga4gto 12-23-2004, 01:29 AM Thanks guys, I really appreciate the support... I seriously need to have this car!!!! I noticed that Sewell Pontiac is one of the sponsors on this site. I wonder if you can purchase a warranty plan from them.
2000GTPBROTHER 12-23-2004, 01:41 PM GM has an extended service plan they seel called the GM Protection Plan. Dealers may also sell plans offered by others. But on page 5 of the GMPP Major Guard policy, says 50 states-DC-Canada only.
Major Guard (http://www.gmprotectionplan.com/gmpp/majorguard.pdf)
But you are right, find a dealer who has experience, and pick their brains.
gaga4gto 12-27-2004, 04:05 AM Once again, thanks for the all of the information. I will be returning to the states in about three weeks. While I am at home, I PLAN on going by the local Pontiac dealer and test drive one. If they don't have the '05 yet, I'll try the '04. Either way, I am still planning on getting one. Alot of people here are for the new mustang, but I hate the way it sounds!!! I am the only one interested in getting one. Oh well, Peace and Chicken Grease :afro:

FastXTC 02-08-2005, 07:21 PM (I am not a legal expert)
I would contact a local GM dealer:
- For a small free, get in writing that they will honor the warranty of GM North America
- Perhaps purchase a local GM extended warranty, contingent on the GTO arriving intact in Korea and passing all customs and vehicle law requirements
When the car arrives in your possession and payment for service contract is made, you would have a binding contract enforceable in your country of residence.
