Let’s talk about gas for a minute.

Do you buy a 30k + car and put low grade gas in it?

I don't but I did fill her up with the low grade stuff a couple days ago just to see if I could tell a difference.
BTW that low grade stuff smells more like a cleaning solution than gas. <_<

Well I definitely felt a difference although a small one.
It was most noticeable on acceleration from 70 to 90 mph in 6th gear. The reason for this is simple the pcm would not advance the timing for me because I was in high gear and the engine would ping with the low octane fuel in it so it basically felt like I was pulling a trailer. :(

Now let’s talk about octane boost.
Toluene will boost octane but from what I understand burns dirty. Someone correct me if I spelled that wrong please.

So 1 gal of toluene 1 qt of mineral spirits and a couple ounces of transmission fluid.

Atomic mix.
This is octane boost = Toluene
Upper cyl lubricant = ATF
Fuel injector fuel system cleaner = Mineral Spirits

So you have octane boost with upper cylinder lubricant and fuel system cleaner.

Pour just over a qt of the toluene in your tank.

Pour the two ounces of ATF in the 3/4 full toluene can and then add the mineral spirits shake one time to mix measure off one qt at a time and there you have octane boost for the next 4 fill ups if you use it a qt at a time or you have next 8 if you use 16 ounces. ;)

Most of the ones on the shelf are 12oz I believe or is that beer I don't remember. :friday:

Total cost is around 8.00 depending on the cost of the toluene BTW toluene can be purchased at any paint store.

Mix at your own risk I am not responsible if you burn your house down or blow your car up. I have not used this mix in my GTO YET but I did use it often in the 03 Mustang GT that I had before getting the GTO (Those Mustangs need all the help they can get)

Please post comments good or bad or other ways to boost octane. :dribble:

Well I don't think the other chemicals are boosters, so while they are lubricating they arn't going to do you anymore good. The object is to raise the octane to 93 without paying 10 extra bucks for it.

Well I think the problem is that one thing of octane booster won't raise the entire tank of gas to 93 octane. From what I have seen/experianced most octane boosters raise the ocane .1 instead of 1. So you would need about 40 of the things for a whole tank of gas. I could be wrong as I am unsure of the octane boosters amount. My friend added it to his 03 Vette and he said it gave him mediocre performance gains.

Automatic transmission fluid in your fuel???

I'm no chemist but that just sounds like a recipe for disaster to me. I can see toluene and I've heard xylene may work also, but anyone trying those concoctions has bigger b@lls than me. Sounds like a recipe for fried pistons or throwing a rod through your block.

I guess if it works though. B)

I can't help but think this is risky at best. The new computer systems today are measuring expended gases and adjusting the bandwidth of the injectors so fast that you risk either an over rich 02 sensor reading which will cause the computer to pull timing and shorten injector opening causing knock OR as you experienced with the 87 octane the computer will try to compensate with wider injector openings which then causes a rich condition which again puts you back to square one which is poor performance. You can of course get around all this with a professional tune and computer flash for a specific octane like 93 octane, 91 octane, 106 race gas or you can get a flash with a wider range of fuels like 89-91. But mixing a batch of your own fuel with the stock computer perameters will not yield higher performance. ok, ok off my soap box...
