Anyone know if the 2004 GTO Valvesprings are compatible with the LS6 cam. I searched and found some conflicting info.. color codes for valvespring seems to have changed over time... Thanks for any help on this as i'd like to avoid changing out springs if it's not necessary... Cary

Well I imagine you can, the LS6 cam is a higher performance cam which is meant to go with the LS6 heads with have I believe heavy duty springs. I don't think you will run into any problems, but you may want to just to be safe.

It was my understanding that the 2004 GTO had the LS6 springs.

I tested my stock springs when I did my cam swap. They are not LS6 springs, and not enough for an LS6 cam. Pick up a set of Comp Cams 918 springs and you'll be fine.

I do not recall where I found the following information. Perhaps LS1Tech.com. I believe it is usefull. Stock LS1 cam is about .500"

LS1 valve spring
max lift 0.525" / 230 lbs

2001 LS6 valve spring
max lift 0.540" / 250 lbs

2002 LS6 valve spring
max lift 0.600" / 300 lbs

SLP valve spring
max lift 0.610" / 320 lbs

Both the Comp 918s and Manley NexTeks are both rated for up to .625" and .600"of valve lift respectively and are both 350 lb.+ springs.

I would change the springs just in case...listen to Tek GTO. I don't think you would go wrong with these either:

When I did my cam change, my original springs had both green and white stripes. Some were green, some were white. Very random. Not one color on intake and the other on the exhaust. Both were mixed up. So who knows what they are actually. I would definitely change the springs when a new cam is going in.
