HOLY CR@P!!! :woot:

What does that put the total at now? I think it's more than the total of over 15K I saw posted for total 2004 GTO production that someone posted here. What gives?

What's the board's thoughts on dealers in some areas where the GTO has not sold at all? Do you think the dealers will finally get a clue and lower the prices and stop playing games? I mean, we're getting awfully close to the 05 GTO's coming out, I would think the dealership wouldn't want the 04's still sitting there.

The reason I ask, there's a couple of dealerships I know of that still have the same 4 or 5 GTO's in their lots that were there last Spring/Summer and I might consider jumping the gun and finance it. Up in Buffalo, NY over the holidays (I was visiting), I found a dealer offering 04 GTO's at $200 a month, nothing down (forgot how long though)...It was a pretty good deal though when you did all the math on it, which is rare for up there.

Anyway, just wondering.

At least 50 are left on lots in Colorado. If GM could swing me a deal similar to what the easterners got, I'd buy one instantly. Right now, $25.5K is the best quote I have for a 6-speed.

That includes the $1500 return customer rebate and all under the cover rebates the dealer is receiving. I guess the bottom line for me is that if I can steal an '04 for what they went for on the east coast, I'll do it, otherwise I'll wait for 50 more horses and bigger brakes. I have to believe there will be something done to clear the '04s soon, but if there isn't, it is no big deal. I guarantee there will be incentives on the '05 at some point. There are only a handful of big three cars the last few years that have sold without incentives, and despite what some would like you to believe, the economy is not all that great, especially in Colorado.

Even with the '05 improvements, I honestly don't think the GTO is going to sell that well. There is a lot of competition out there at $33K. Even at $25.5K I can still choose from the Mustang, the WRX, the stripper EVO, maybe the Magnum Hemi......after all the deals are in.

Hi every body. Last month I finally got one. :D

Since the GTO pictures were on line I have always wanted one. I saved for a year and decided to get a 2005 Mustang GT. I ordered one and waited for 5 months. When the car still didn't come I told to the dealer off and bought the car I really wanted.

Phantom Black Automatic. I think I am the youngest 2004 GTO owner. I am 17 and I saved for 2 years for a down payment.

The next day the Mustang came in and it had red seats. I did not order those.

Good thing I bought the GTO Everything worked out.

I look foward to see what else is on this site. So far I have learned a lot.

A WRX STi or EVO MR (the only ones that will run with a GTO) or Magnum Hemi for $25.5? Not a chance.

If you put 25.5 into a standard WRX, it would run with a GTO in the 1/4. You can get them for around 22K if you shop, and 3.5K worth of boost controller, chip, intake and exhaust puts them in the 13's. In the 1/8 a good driver in a stock WRX can beat an average driver in a GTO.

The EVO RS stickers at 28.4K and runs in the 13's stock. Head to head stock it owns the '04 GTO in 1/8.

A leftover '04 Mustang GT(20K) with 5.5 of upgrades runs mid-13's.

I would expect an '04 GTO to beat a Magnum Hemi in the 1/4, but they are really two different cars. I'm guessing by the end of the '05 model year Chrysler will have incentives that will get you a Hemi Magnum for $25.5. I'm also guessing the '05 GTO will be blown out again for that range.

I like the GTO, but at sticker it just isn't going to sell. Mid-20's its a good deal, but it still has plenty of competition.

Current incentives for the GTO has it down to 25, in which case it blows away anything that WAS competition. The 05 at sticker will blow away anything else.

No one yet knows what the reality is on the '05. The magazine road tests are all over the map.

I'm not so sure an '05 is faster in the 1/4 than an EVO MR or an STi, and a properly driven EVO or STi will kill a GTO off the line. Its just a traction issue.

Either will out handle a GTO, hands down.

I think people are also forgeting that the GTO has a superior ride and interior than the cars mentioned above.

IF all you wanted was a speed machine, then you do better by looking at used cars that could be tuned up.

The GTO is a package of muscle and refinement.

I just purchased a 2004 Phantom Black with 6spd after the GM incentives got too good to pass up. After the cash back, "sweetened" GM card allowance, I paid $20,050 which included spending $500 to have the factory wheels chromed. As much as I wanted to wait for the 2005, I felt that there really was no way I could get that good of a deal on an 2005 - I suppose time could prove me wrong, but I doubt it. My car had 35 miles on it and had sat at a little dealership in the middle of Illinois for 224 days (in their showroom). My dealer traded for the GTO after we discovered that the incentives were really getting these cars moving and couldn't find one like I wanted anywhere in St. Louis. I love my car and feel like a got the deal of the century!

I'm curious. Whereabouts in Illinois did you find your GTO? Looks like you may be from the St. Louis area.

Enjoy your Goat and keep posting. :)

Sorry for the delay on this but I purchased my car at Four Flags Motors in Glen Carbon, Illinois (I live in St. Louis). They found the car at a place called - I think- Krebner Motors - not sure where that is but I know it was in Illinois and was 200 miles away from Glen Carbon.
I paid my sales tax today and they had the manager of the office come over and ask me if I could prove that I received $12,250 in rebates/incentives - I handed him the invoice from the dealer and he said "wow". I suppose that made writing a sales tax check marginally easier!!
The more I drive this car the more I love it - I think Pontiac/Holden/Gm did a fantastic job!

Thanks for the reply.

I see from your signature that you also own a Bonnie GXP. Good to see another Pontiac fan on board here. Please feel free to post any pics of your rides in The Garage Section or post them here in the Forum in the Reader's Rides section. If not you could share your info, color and interior, manual or automatic, etc. :)

Back to the topic, any more thoughts on Dec. sales?

As far as the December sales go, I really think the nearly 3,000 cars sold sort of proves that the GTO - in the public's mind - is not priced correctly in the low to mid 30's. As much as some people complain about "bland" styling, etc what suddenly changed with the GTO to allow the car to sell at a annualized level of 35,424 units? Only the pricing. I truly believe this is a problem beyond just the GTO. (I realize this is a GTO site only...)But even with the GXP priced at $38,500, how can that compete with the 300C much less with the SRT8 - which may only be priced 3K-5K more than the GXP but have 150 more horsepower, 5 spd auto, rwd, Brembo brakes, etc. I like the looks of the Bonnie much more but at some point are you going to keep paying comparable money for what is really not a comparable car? We're seeing some of the same with the G6 -although a good car- which evidently is priced above its' foreign competitors. We can debate the reasons about why the Pontiacs maybe aren't as competitively priced as they can or need to be, but I think the proof really is in the December GTO sales. If the car is priced in the Mustang range, it really should sell - if every review points out that the GTO is 5K or so more than the Mustang, I think we are going to see the same issues with the '05 as we did with the '04.The unfortunate thing is people who dismiss the GTO due to price are doing themselves a disservice for passing up a helluva ride!

Nocturn

I disagree, simple because lowering price is naturally going to get more sales, if they lowered the SSR to 25K sales would skyrocket simply because more people have that much to spend rather than 45k. The laws of supply and demand have little to do with where the car is meant to be. If you gave a 7K rebate on a coupe 3 series its sales would triple also.

The 05 is only making 12k units, so the odds of them lowering the price is even less likely as they only need to sell 1000 a month to meet their standards. I think the GTO is right where it needs to be, the Bonnie however is a bit expensive. The GTO isn't meant to compete with the mustang directly as the mustang has a lower V6 trim, and is priced in the range of highschool students. GM doesn't want the golden chain boy racer image associated with the GTO as that plauged the fbody.

I agree Noc....I like the fact that the NEWAGEGTO!! Is build on 30K parts and not a beefed up version of 20K parts!

That is exactly why I got the GTO

I think the 12K figure is misleading as they are also shortening the model year to adjust to the typical 2006 model releases. In other words the 2004 model year was actually Dec 03 - Dec 04 but the 05 model year will be Jan 05 - Sept 05. My 04 arrived at the dealer early Oct, some arrived as late as Nov which is unusual as typically they would have been 05 models. The 06's should be in dealers by Sept or Oct.

On December 27 2004 my wife bought me a new GTO as a christmas present. The color is Torrid Red, black interior , 6-speed. I had been shopping around for this car for quite some time. I went to a local dealership ( I live in miami ) and the best price I could get was MSRP value. When I mentioned the price of these cars that were being sold on ebay, the salesperson told me "You're wasting my time. Go buy one." We went on vacation to North Carolina on the week between Christmas and New Years, and just out of curiosity I walked into a dealer, Bill Holt Pontiac in Ellijay, Georgia. The car was on Red Tag sale for $27,900. After talking to the salesman and the manager we agreed on the sale price of $26,500 including the $5,500 rebate. I knew I could have gotten it for a better price if I had kept shopping around, but I was amazed at the courtesy of the salesmen compared to previous experiances in the Miami area dealers.

Im extremely happy with the car. :D
