I don't own a GTO (yet), but I'm seriously thinking about it.
I'm surprised I haven't seen the oldest trick in the book mentioned anywhere: battery in the trunk. Moving 20lb from the front to the right rear was always the first mod back in the 70's when I hung out with old RWD drag racers. I even did it on my '77 T/A just for the heck of it. Is the battery already in the trunk on the GTO?

Well in my case I only have 4000 miles on my GTO and have no plans or "that kind" of work until after the 3/36K.

Are you saying there is no room in the GTO trunk for a battery? Jeez, I'd better take a look before I lay down the cash.
If you are worried about explosions, I wouldn't be. There is no way they vented the gas tank into the trunk. Ever see a '65 Mustang? The floor of the trunk IS the gas tank!

There's plenty of room in there for the battery. The trunk space is limited due to the placement of the gas tank behind the rear seat which eats up about half of the trunk space that is available in the Monaro.
You'd have no problem doing it if you were so inclined. :)
I'm no hard core racer so I think I'll keep my meager trunk space though. :D

I know it has an EVAP system on it I'm a car doc remember. ;)
How GM explains EVAP for those non mechanical folks. B)
The evaporative emission (EVAP) control system limits fuel vapors from escaping into the atmosphere. Fuel tank vapors are allowed to move from the fuel tank, due to pressure in the tank, through the vapor pipe into the EVAP canister. Carbon in the canister absorbs and stores the fuel vapors. Excess pressure is vented through the vent line and EVAP vent valve to the atmosphere. The EVAP canister stores the fuel vapors until the engine is able to use them. At an appropriate time, the control module will command the EVAP purge valve ON open, allowing engine vacuum to be applied to the EVAP canister. With the EVAP vent valve OFF open, fresh air will be drawn through the valve and vent line to the EVAP canister. Fresh air is drawn through the canister, pulling fuel vapors from the carbon. The air/fuel vapor mixture continues through the EVAP purge pipe and EVAP purge valve into the intake manifold to be consumed during normal combustion. The EVAP system is capable of detecting a leak as small as 0.04 inch. The control module uses several tests to determine if the EVAP system is leaking.
Class dismissed.
I'd be worried about the possibility of a short circuit melting that plastic tank and blowing me half way to the moon.
My trunk has just enough space for a first aid jump bag, golf bag, small tool kit and a dozen extra golf balls. :D

I have never not been able to fit everything I needed. Including luggage for 4 and groceries from a buy in bulk store.

I'm no expert but I wonder how effective moving tha battery to the trunk would be on a car with an IRS.
