Why does my car tremble when in neutral. I've opened up the hood and the motor has alot of sway on it. Is it the power or is there something wrong with it. Is anyone else experiencing this with their goat? Help worried for my baby!

Better take it to the dealer. Sounds like major engine problems. Could be a bent rod, bad timing, whatever. Whatever you do, stop driving it until checked.

Now I don't mean that it moves like crazy, but when I'm at the stop light and you release the clutch and are at nuetral you feel the car rock ever so slightly. Once you start rolling everything gets back to being steady. Are you sure no one is experiencing just a little movement while idle? :(

How bad is the slight rock, is the performance down at all? Is this the first pushrod/V8 engine car you have owned?

Yall quit pullin his chain.

Dude it's totally normal for you're GTO to do that. <_<

It's the wannago in the engine. Just think of it as the Mustang stomper having a tantrum cause you aren't mashing on the gas.

The rock isn't severe, but you do feel the car sway just a bit. The performance hasn't changed and I don't hear any weird sounds coming from the engine compartment. Before this car I drove a lightning and I always felt the rpms fluctuate at stop lights but I never felt movement. Could it be the size and wait of car that makes it noticeable. I took it to the dealer and told them what I was experiencing. The guy just looked at the engine and said it sounds normal. What a nitwit, I would have expected better service after purchasing this type of vehicle. I was treated alot better when I brought in my lightning for service at the ford dealerships.
Anyway, do you guys feel any movement when at a stop light?

Yeah, mine does that too. I thought it was just that old muscle car rumble. I've also noticed a sort of rattling sound coming from the shifter/lower dash area on hard acceleration in 3rd, 4th, and 5th. A buddy of mine said it sounds like a bad tranny mount. Any ideas??

Hehehe. I love our Aussie members.

Allow me to translate if I may. And if I'm wrong please correct me our Aussie brothers.

Bloody Poofter = F#@%ing H#$%sexual.

Remember he's just teasing too. I'm sure nothing is truly meant by the comment. And sorry I can't help you with your problem Foster's Guy as I drive the A4 not the M6 as yourself.

Peace all. :D

Crikey mates! :D

(Had to break out in my best Aussie accent there)

And for Mario. My engine has a little "lope" to it also. Unless you have some severe shake I would think it is entirely normal.

Geez, watch one of the Top Gear vids. You know, the one where they turn on the t/c..... I wasn't trying to insult anyone, but Mario had a question that I thought deserved more than " U R DOOMED". Then again, if you can't take it, don't dish it out.
Okay, enough preaching.
The poofter remark works both as an insult and a term of endearment. Haven't you ever called one of your friends Jacka$$ or some such??

The car rocks before it rolls (normal)

That's funny. Other cars tremble when mine's in neutral.

You might want to connect a scan tool to the OBD II port and see if there are any error codes. If there is a missfire in one of the cylinders, the scan tool should pick it up. US 04 model GTOs have a taller cam than the Aussie Monaro and would explain why all our GTOs have a slight rumble during idle.

My 04 has been doing that little shimmy for a year now, I have an A4 and when we sit at a light it does the goat dance every so gently, but enough to make the Stangs and Ricers think twice about getting on the dance floor.

I call it the "goat dance". It had been so long since I've been in a car that had "engine shake" or whatever else you want to call it. But it's cool. I love the reaction I get when other people are in the car. :D

It tends to "shake" a little becasue it has a slightly aggressive cam. It is normal.

Just wanted to say that my 05 seems to do it also and I like it :D Another fun thing with an A4 is to pull up to a light move the car into neutral release the brakes then reapply them and put the car back into drive. AS the drive train goes back under load the rear of the car actually squats or sits down just like a cat that is ready to pounce.

The back of your car squats?

Perfectly normal, mine had the slight shake amplified after I installed a bigger cam :D

I like to call it a seismic rumble……

LOL, big bumpstick > little bumpstick!

Nothing means 'power' more than a car that rocks on its own at idle. :dribble:

Forgive my ignorance but, are we talking about a shake that is cyclical and constant (lub-lub-lub), or one that is random bumpiness that feels like a bunch of random misfires?

I ask because in my '05 GTO I feel the latter at idle, and I'm hoping that it's just cam lope I'm feeling. But I thought that cam lope would have been more like the former (lub-lub-lub). Haven't experienced cam lope before this, so I don't have a comparison point...

I wouldn't call my '05 M6 rough, but it does seem to rock a bit at idle, almost like a small gust of crosswind pushing on the body. No engine miss in this puppy, however. Rock 'n roll.

My 04 m6 does the same gentle little rock too. I do beleive that it is the cam lope, my challenger used to do the same thing just alot more of an abussive shake. Don't put babies in muscle cars, they don't come out right.

That feeling we're experiencing in our GTOs' is called TORQUE

st8gunner
03-05-2005, 12:00 PM
Torque....... better than crack, I've heard. You can even use it to insult people. Ricer revving the piss outta his engine next to you? Tell him to give it a rest, and say 'My lug nuts need more torque than your car makes'
