How do you remove the fuel filter and fuel pump for service? I don't necessarily want to remove the whole fuel tank, so is there an easier way, back seat maybe?

I doubt it, with the tank where it is, and the pump in tank (I believe), I think your gunna have to drop the tank.

The fuel filter is maint. free for the life of the vehicle and is not meant to be changed at specific mileage intervals. As an aside, this is due to government regulations on evaporative HC emissions, i.e. it lets out a lot of gas fumes when you change a filter. Most vehicles will be going to this system over the next couple years. Back to your question, the filter is integral with the pump assembly inside the tank and you have to drop the tank to get to it.
