: 05 GTO- $33,795 - the best they can do?

I Talked to a saleman today. His best price on a new 05 GTO is $33,795
He stated that GM is only making 60% of the 04 production.
He also stated that the 06 Models will not be out until Dec 05/Jan 06.

So in other words the 05 is going to be in demand and the price will not drop later in the year? Like he can see into the future? He also said the 04's actually sold very well at his dealership. He also said they had no trouble selling all their 04s.

I'm don't know if this is really a good deal or just the typical salesmen B.S.

All I know is 33,795 is the lowest price he will let go of an 05 GTO as of today. I'm hoping he will come down in price sometime in the future. I don't want to be one of those crazy few who paid 10k more than everyone else for their GTO.

So what do you guys think about this price? How much are you guys paying for your 05 GTO's. (without GM loyalty discounts, etc)

I would go for it, thats almost exactly MSRP, and with the 05's being cut (which is true, but its not 60%) they are 12K now instead of 15K produced. I don't think you will see deals like you had on the 04. Mainly because the car is upgradded now, and the demand will be higher.

Just to let you know I paid less then that before GM loyalty rebate.

1FastWRX maybe I can help. Let me know I do have a Red/Black 6 speed here and a Black/Red 6 speed incoming. Are you looking for a 6 speed or an automatic? Let me help you.

You just have to determine how much time you want to invest in looking/shopping and perhaps travel some to get a better deal. You can use GMBUYPOWER.com to ask all the dealers in your driving area for pricing and make counter offers over the internet. The last time I looked the profit margin for an automatic GTO was $2400.00 and change plus their dealership holdback. Some guys in the L.A. area of California were able to get their 05's for 750.00 over invoice and I found several dealers in different cities willing to go $1000.00 over invoice. Was I willing to fly and drive home from L.A. for $250.00, nope. Another tactic is to leave your price with the salesguy and the manager. That is, give them your name and phone number and your offer to buy the car at $_____.00 and leave. Sometimes when sales are slow or if they have another payment to make on the car they will call and make the deal.

Don't be fooled by the limited production and high demand talk. Very soon there will be more than enough 05's to go around. At these prices it is not going to be a red hot seller. The GTO is priced at about the price of a 2003 Cobra Mustang and while they were a hot item at first Ford dealers were still trying to sell them on Ebay this past November.

So if you are willing to wait a month or two you will get a better deal. It's only money

Theres a difference, the Mustang is made all over the place, there are only 12K GTO's total for 05. I doubt you will see dealers having them sit for months like the 04s

Yes the regular Mustang's are very common but the Cobra sells fewer cars than the GTO line and they always have plenty left over at the end of there production runs. My feeling is that at this price range there is just not a large market of buyers. I feel the GTO, like the Cobra is aimed at people between the Mustang GT and the Vette crowds.

That is true, but people spending upwards of 30K may not want a glorified Mustang. I know in previous Mustangs the interrior and quality of the car didn't feel like a 30K car. Where in the GTO not only looks/feels like a 30K car. GM knows this, and instead of comparing it to say the mustang, they compare it to a coupe 3 series.

I want a 6 speed and the color isn't a big issue. I like blue, red, and black. I have to also deal with my trade in. I also live in South Florida. So I don't know how easy it would be to make a deal. If I get a chance after work, I will give you a call and we can discuss it.
Thanks

Wait till mid summer. GM will be trying to move them with $4-5k rebates again.

I think the 2005s will sell better than the 2004s, but not radically better. And the 2004s only started to move when people could pick them up in the mid $25k range.

They didn't revise the production number estimate to keep the price up, they just correctly the completely unrealistic 2004 estimate.

If you want a real good deal, wait for the 2006s. As soon as spy shots of the 2007s are seen on the internet, they'll be giving them away.

The information on the 2006's is BS. The reason they are halting 05 production early is so that they start 06 production early.

There were inital estimates of 18K 04s, they sold 15K total, 05 production total is 12K. By the law of supply and demand the 05's will be harder to get and thus less incentives.

...and if you want a better deal wait for the 2010's they will have great incentives when the 2011's come out.

Current Inventives on 05's are $0 in rebates, but there 0% for 36 months, 2.9% for 48 months, and 3.9% for 60 months.

Leasing is as follows:

Interest Rate / Residual Value / Rebate
24 mos. 3.50 / 62% (add 1%) / 0
30 mos. 3.50 / 57% (add 1%) / 0
36 mos. 3.50 / 53% (add 3%) / 0
48 mos. 3.50 / 45% (add 3%) / 0

* residual values are for 15,000 miles per year. (add for 12,000 miles per year)

I hope this helps anyone...

Man if everyone waited until a good deal comes around, they would wait themselves out of a car. A "good deal" is very vague it lies with the person purchasing the vehicle. If that person feels like they are getting a "good deal" then they are going to buy the car.

I hate to say it J but I agree with you on this one. I am big into computers which prices fall even faster in relative terms....

My feeling is you pick a car and buy it when "YOUR" time is right. If you like the 2005 and you can afford 33K then buy it. Maybe shop around a bit to see if someone will go a bit lower but get it.

On the flip side of that coin - I personally will never pay OVER msrp for any vehicle. That is just wrong.

I don't and will not ever sell a car for over MSRP. It is wrong and no benefit to my potential customer.

I got my 05 ordered right before I deployed (10 Jan) for $3X,XXX after TTL and $1k deposit - and they will honor any incentives/rebates when I take delivery in April.

Hey man if you are going to post up prices here then please explain how they are getting to that number. Are they using your deposit to show you that kind of discount? Are you GMS?

Z06J,

I have spoken to a dealer in Folsom, CA and he quoted me a price at $32,000. Now, I do not know if it matter that I contacted him over the internet or what. However, I will be seeing this guy on Monday (Feb 21st) to take the GTO for a test drive. Oh, and another thing, one dealer in Sacramento, CA was charging $2,000 over MSRP and that is wild!

That sounds like a good deal I just wish I had any cars at all to sell. Right now I am all out.

Dad went to a dealer for me, Hudson Pontiac in Poughkeepsie, NY, and the guy had the balls to quote my dad 35K, before tax and whatnot. What the? 3K over MSRP? Plus he kept trying to persuade him into an 04. My dad said his son didn't want an 04, so he backed off and brought it up again 5 minutes later. Several times. He'd only give my dad $800 off, 5 of that due to military discount. I really don't want to get a different car, but if this keeps up, I might as well get an STi, which is just as fast 0-60, for under 32K. I REALLY WANT A GTO!

True. Typical salesman B.S. Their only purpose in life is to get you to buy the car at their price. 99% of car salesman know very little about cars, much less the ability to predict production schedules.
