Hey, im a newbie here, I have been around for a while but decided to join today. (is there a welcome or newbie section, I didn't see one?) Anyway, I have a s/c Tiburon, and im getting a goat in a few months, just wanted to know if there are any aftermarket parts for the GTO from the factory? I know a Borla exhaust wont void the warranty but a vortech sure will haha. Any GM performance parts for the GTO you guys know about? Thanks. (also I know I should search, but I figure since im a newbie I get one free flame, lol)

Nice Tiburon, I often consider one for a daily driver. Welcome to the board.

As far as I know there arn't any aftermarket parts available from the factory, but warrenty voiding depends on which dealer you go to.

Alright thanks, I figured there would be a few because I know GM makes some superchargers for the Cavi and stuff, guess thats why I didn't find any parts. I need to keep a warranty on this car though lol, I blew that 10 year warranty out the window after 3 months with the Tib, man it loves mods.

Lol, well where in a supercharger may only give 50-75 Hp on the Tiberuon, it gives 125-150 on a LS1. Which then ends up with a 450-500HP GTO.

It depends on what your dealer does, some dealers will allow mods as long as they are installed by dealer mechanics, others simply wont allow any. I would ask your dealer before you purchase the car for sure though.

Im making over 100hp per liter on the Tib, so thats not bad, and I gained 115whp on the Tib with only 9 pounds of boost untuned, I dont think the GTO could do that. Stock auto tib is 135whp, im up at 250 now. We just got a Tib to 385whp on 19 pounds of boost with a turbo, and 327whp with 10 pounds of boost with a s/c. Only thing is that the Tib is hitting its limits now, where as the GTO has not even come close to hitting its limits as far as I have seen yet, those extra 3 liters help a little lol.

With an ATI procharger running at 7 PSI are usually making 525+ at the engine mind you (not wheels, although the drivetrain loss is a bit altered wiht RWD/FWD comparisons). SO its close to 100HP/L on 7PSI...although I don't know what would need to be done to get there.

Either way I think its easier for smaller engines to meet that requirement as the numbers they have to make are smaller. Granted your working with smaller engines, but they usually are DOHC, and equipped with variable valve timming (not sure if the Tib does, but the S2000 for example I know does) Where in the GTO doesn't. But To counterpoint myself, the new Cadillac STS-V makes 440HP from a supercharged 4.4L DOHC V8.

Either way I don't think it would be to hard to get 100HP/L out of the goat..sorry this kinda turned into a rant

Im not arguing anything, im wondering, after all I am going to be trading in the Tib for the Goat lol, so we all know that I have respect for the GTO, I haven't decided wether to supercharge the 5.7 liter, or get the 6 liter and keep the warranty.

you could get a 04 now for like 26000
add s/c and it might be about same as 05 price

but the 05 only has 400hp
a 04 s/c has at least 475hp unless you go with procharger 525hp

Zero has a point, but if warrenty is an issue than I would go with an 05. Judging from your current car though I would say it isn't. :afro:

No biggy myst I wasn't arguing either :friday:

At this point I would def go with the 04, and then go find a corvette dealership that does s/c on vettes, you should be able to get a new warranty through them for the drive train at the least. I got 3yrs from the vette dealer and another 2 from my original dealer, they said it was ok cause it was dealer installed and they didnt have to cover the warranty for the next 3yrs.

Wait, wait, wait, wait... I can get a supercharger and still have a warranty? Wow, not used to that, lol, **** Hyundai dealerships void your warrant if you change your **** light bulbs lol.

Yeah, thats what I was saying, either LS1 with s/c, or LS2 with warranty, I might go with the LS1, s/c it, then buy the autox kit, unless any of you guys know if the LS2 price will drop soon? Gotta love having a ton of parts and engines, and all of that stuff available. I mean I was the first auto tib to 250whp, so I had to scrounge and get custom parts, this will be a cake walk lol. Awesome.

Are your sure they will void the warrenty from the dealership? Since my brother is going to buy a 04 Tiburon, he ask them if a turbo or supercharger will void his warrenty and they said NO :dribble: . He actually recomented putting as turbo charger on it if he had enough money. I guess only a very few dealership (Hyundia) will do this.

Ha, thats a joke, go read the tiburon forums (newtiburon.com). Hyundai is the worst in the country at acknowledging the warranty. I could bring in a stock car with a broken window or a/c or something and they would make an excuse not to fix it. BTW: Tell your brother to get the 8psi Next Generation Motorsports turbo, (nxtgenmotorsports.com)

Ever think of swapping in a 3.8 Series III supercharged engine from a GTP grand prix? Hell you could even get the 5.3L V8 in the new GXP Grand Prix...303HP in stock trim FWD ready.

You're getting into some hairy territory. It has taken GM years to gradually reach 300HP in a FWD. My GTP has a bit of torque steer but not bad. I would guess that if you bump FWD power up very far, you'll run into tons of headaches with component failure, CV joint and torque shaft breakage, transmission clutch plate failures and a tough car to handle under power. You would need some pretty sharp engineers to be able to bump FWD performance up beyond the car's original intended power levels.

Yeah, FWD isn't the best platform, but there is a Tib with the new turbo out with 380whp on a built bottom end (going for 600whp) and so far everything is fine, its an auto btw, the tranny is fine, the suspension is fine, the car is pretty impressive.

The only engine that will swap into a Tib is the I4 2.0, the V6 2.7, and the new 3.5 V6 in the Santa Fe.

Back on topic: How does the GTO respond to mods? Do you get good gains from minor mods?

Nocturn
02-21-2005, 02:57 PM
well yes and no, It responds pretty well to most normal mods, but with the exhaust as it is from the factory, catback exhaust kits will get you 10 engine HP if your lucky. And when your shelling out 800 bucks for 10 more horses and a new exhaust note I don't see the point. However, other mods do give the LS1 plenty of power gains since your working with such large displacement.

I got it figured at about $2000 for every 50hp

does that sound about right?

Nocturn
02-22-2005, 03:52 AM
uhrm, no.

Long tubes, xpipe, CAI, and a tuner might get 50HP but wouldnt cost 2K.
Superchargers give way more than that for way more money, heads and cam are about 2000 but gives way more gains.,

Zero4
02-22-2005, 12:22 PM
there is cost to put the stuff on too

long tubes are like a $1000 by them selfs
tuner is about $400, but I don't know what hp that adds
induction, i think cheapest is like $175

then there is that **** tax and S&H
