I started get'n some symptoms of the computer bug that everyone has been posting about, not reading full with a full tank and the temp guage spiking to max then returning to normal. Service tech said they found the problem I was discribing (thanx to everyone who posted their problems) but there was a problem with their computer uploading the program. It kept freezing up. So they comp me a rental (GMC Envoy). **** that thing is slow. Anyway, on to my point. I asked the service tech to do me a favor and put a note in the work order. It reads as follow:

Check computer for imporper guage readings, (probles listed here).
Request reprogram for performance rather than factory settings, see what you can do.

So, I pose the question. IF they do program my car for performance after they fix the problem will it be as good as getting a chip? After all this is the best tech dealer had and they said he knows how to do all that stuff. Give me some opinions, I'll be picking her up tommarow 2/22/05. I'll let ya know if I feel a difference

Well worry about that when and if they do actually do it.

So factory can alter the settings to performance? What does that do? Is it still under warranty. Cough it up, I want to know what they did and what you feel now.

My opinion is that he's just going to upload the canned GM code.

As an ex-service manager, I'd bet you get the canned code. Dealers can get in some very hot water messing around with chips that might put the car out of emissions certification -- federal charges for example. I think the stuff is hard wired unless they've changed things since I worked on 'em.

If there using the GM Tech2 diagnostic tool they can only upload the latest aproved version of the PCM software it is not able to be used to selectivley modify indiviual parameters. :type:

I am a GM technician, and we have had a few GTO's in. There is one and only one available calibration for us to program. I love how the GTO has not been a problematic car, but when it comes to getting parts, what a hassle. we had an 05 blow out a RF shock, and the replacement part is over a month out!

Time for aftermarket shocks! You would install those parts for free under the warranty right? Assuming someone brought the parts in?

Well Dodge did it for my Durango. They had parts that we BO for 3 weeks and I went a bought the aftermarkets and they put them on.
