Greetings,

My question is regarding motor oil for the '05 GTO. I am not sure if this question has been posed before. I've tried to use the search and it failed. So, here goes...

What type of motor oil is the GTO when it arrives at the dealership? Mobil 1? What type of oil is best?

Next, how soon should a GTO have the oil changed? Yes, I know that I need to read the owners manual, but I do not have one yet. ;)

Thanks!

'05s come with Mobil 1. Manual says to follow the Oil Life Monitor but prevailing opinion seems to be that most people are gonna change routinely (at a few k) anyhow. Many people are choosing to make the first change early in case there's any debris.

Thank you for your response. There are alot of opinions out there. Changing the oil at the appropriate intervals according to the manual is the better way to go. Glad to know that Mobil 1 is in the engine and what is there I will stay with it.

You misunderstood me. The manual says "change the oil when the idiot light tells you to." Most people are choosing to not wait that long.

Alright, I understand what you are saying now. ;) No, I will not wait that long to change my oil. It will be way before the idiot light thinks about coming on. :)

While driving my Vette, it had an indicator that tells how much oil life is left in the engine. Some times I would allow it to go to 40% oil life, and that is when I would change my oil. It was good thing to do and the performance of the Vette was top notch. :D

And I will do the same for the GTO. B)

I always like to get the "break in" oil out at about 1000miles and then stick with the Mobil 1. Following the oil life monitor should be fine unless your car sits a lot. That is the situation I will be in. I will be wasting a lot of oil because I won't have the miles I need for an oil change but the time will dictate an oil change.

I think 05's came with Mobil1 from the factory. Correct me if i'm wrong.
