Anybody else having this problem?

Since new, there is an intermittent problem with the steering wheel audio controls. The Volumn Down button makes the the volume go up, and the Volume Up buttom mutes the audio. The Mute button still mutes. The volume button on the dash unit works fine always.

Also, when using the windsheild washer sometimes it doesn't activate the wipers even when holding it in (spraying) for over 5 seconds.

The problem seems to happen more when it is really humid (over 80% humidity). I haven't brought it into Pontiac yet because I'm waiing for a hard failure. Otherwise, I'll bring it in and surely get the "we checked everything and could not recreate the problem".

I think it is somehing to do with the rotary electrical connection plate between the sterring wheel and the wiring harness.

Thoughts / suggestions?

Between the steering wheel and the eteering colum is whhat we call the clock spring it is basicly a strip of plastic carrying five electrical circuts between the wheel and colum.
Wev'e had the occasional failure of these speings in the Commodores usualy picked up when the ECU trigers the air bag fault light and because of that I think your problem might be a bad connection at the block connection at the colum to clockspring or at the main connector at the back of the radio or it could be software related. It is an easy matter for a technician to update the radio software :type:

I have had this problem twice now...I fix it by hitting the down volume and it seems to work -- but the above sounds like a better plan.
