I thought it would be cool to have a thread in here for next generation Monaro rumors.

Latest I have heard is that next gen Monaro is still on and due to be built stateside. This contridicts directly with the asertation that the Zeta GTO has been cancelled. Even if the Zeta GTO is cancelled...a GTO could end up on another platform. Beta? Sigma?

That is what I have been hearing as well. Apparently all of Holden's Zeta vehicles, including the Monaro, are a go so it seems that the platform will be utilized. In addition, left hand drive Monaro test mules have been spotted down under. The general consensus is that they are VE/Zeta test vehicles. Why would they be doing all of the testing for a U.S. model if it was not coming?

On the other hand, if the next GTO will not be on Zeta, the question I would ask is, "Why not?" Zeta, to me anyway, would seem to be a good platform for a GTO sized two door coupe. Of course, I sure you could argue for each of the other platforms as well.

This exact discussion is going on in regards to the new Camaro as well. And I wonder if there is any link between the Camaro and the GTO, platformwise, that would lead to the GTO being switched from Zeta? Everything that I have heard so far would indicate that these two cars were not going to be platform mates, i.e. Camaro/Firebird.

I suppose it could be a financial decision. Maybe switching the GTO to the Camaro's platform makes the Camaro more finanacally viable? The GTO is not a high volume seller so having a platform mate for it takes some of the pressure off.

However, as I stated above, there will be several other models on the Zeta platform, so why pull the GTO off of Zeta? The platform would seem to have sufficient models to support a low volume vehicle, such as the GTO. Maybe the entire Zeta model line for North America is being rethought. I kind of doubt that, however, there are many contradictory rumors flying around right now.

It could be a Vuaxhall test mule, the US isnt the only country to use left hand drive I dont think.

They better produce the **** next gen GTO on it or I've lost all faith in GM. They'll make all these different car's on Zeta, and when it comes down to it, if they don't put the GTO on it, then what has become of GM? If anything, just put the Camaro on Zeta, and shrink down its wheelbase compared to the GTO's. Now go out there and do it GM!

What platform is the GTO now?

What is the Zeta platform?

I hear a lot of talk about Zeta, what is so special about it?

Zeta is the new Holden designed platform that Holden will be using.

There is talk of GM using it on three american cars, one of which is supposed to be the new GTO.

OOps Vauxhall is right hand drive :) however Holden also ship to the middle east which is LHD and Brazil. UK and South Africa are RHD and so is Japan :type:

Pretty safe to say Monaro will continue production in Australia. There is a possibility of GTO production in the US but this is looking less likely.

This is a segment from an article in the Candain Press.

Before that a large luxury sedan will roll out on the Zeta platform, while a new Pontiac Grand Prix and GTO are scheduled for the following year. Either 2008 or 2009 will see a new rear-wheel drive Chevrolet coupe and convertible everyone hopes will be the next-generation Camaro, while a new Impala is expected in 2009. The next year an all-new Monte Carlo will be based on Holden's Zeta architecture.
