Indulge me for a few minutes if you would. :)

It's a beautiful day here today, cool, sunny and very dry air. So I decide to go out and G-Tech my 04 A4 again as it is now broken in at 7300 miles. Last time it was only 700 miles. So I head out to a lonely country road nearby. It's very smooth and straight and with all the crops out you can see every direction.

Beforehand I had done a mild race-type prep. I'd dropped the rear tires to 30 psi and the fronts left at 35. Took out the spare, jack, mats and all the extra junk in the glove box and console. Remember I'm a factory stock 04 automatic, heck I've still got the paper filter and BF Goodrichs. So I run the straight to check for bumps or debris or roadkill, etc. On the way back I just swerve back and forth several times to warm up the tires.

I get back to my starting point, make sure the G-Tech is level on .00, shift into 3rd on the automatic (last time I left in D,4th) and brake torque to 1500 rpm. The IRS on the Goat hunkers down and the Tiger is ready to pounce.

Off the brake and on the gas! Wow what a launch, I got VERY lucky, it came out hard with just a hint of wheelspin and strangely enough the stock rubber hooked fairly well. It was good and straight as I feathered the gas up to WOT. I kept her straight all the way down and as I glance at the G-Tech here's the shocker....

12.96 @ 116.7 :o

Now I know some of you are going to say I'm full of $hit. But that's what it's read. It's always been reliable and kept good times when I've tested other vehicles of mine. And yes I do know the mph will be off. I guess the G-Tech reads the mph at the end of the 1/4 unlike that at the track where it averages the last 100 feet or something like that. Secondly I set the overspeed indicator to go off at 115, and I didn't hear it. I'm ecstatic. I'm thinking no way. I'm bone stock guys and an A4 to boot. So I decide to make another run to see if I could at least knock off a low 13 to back this run up.

Second run I decide to launch more aggressively. Big mistake! I BT to 1700 and give it a bit more throttle and the poor old stocker BF Goodrichs spin in protest and I start to get a little sideways. I still go WOT for the run though. Glance down and as I figured only a 13.55 @ 115.5. Poor traction equals slow ET although the mph was still up there. I figure there was no way I was going to get another run with as good as launch as that first one so I hung it up. Remember this is a public road although I didn't see a soul the whole time.

So I'm very pleased. It's true what they say about the LS1 it does get stronger after break in. I saw my G-Tech times drop and my mph go up a good 5 or 6 mph. I know this is no substitute for a good track run with a timeslip to back it up. But we have NO 1/4 miles tracks around here. Call me full of cr@p if you like but that's what it recorded. And even if the times are a little off I'd have to believe that this would have been a low 13 second run at the track. Thanks for reading my post and if there are any other G-Techers out there let us know your runs. :)

Here are the 2 runs.

1st: 12.96 @ 116.7
2nd: 13.55 @ 115.5

(at 700 miles) 13.68 @ 110.8

Now if I just had the $$$ for mods. Oh the possibilities!!! :D

Nice write up. I have taken my TAZO (similar to the G-TEK) to the track and there was only about a .2 sec difference. I use mine to tune my cars before I go to the track. I have not tried it on my 05 GTO yet, but have had the car to the drags one time with only 539 miles on it.

Thanks bogie1

I'm curious, when you say your accelerometer (TAZO) is 2 tenths off, is it 2 tenths quicker than the track clock or 2 tenths slower in general?

They are fun little "tools". I'm still grinning ear to ear over the first time. :D

Sure wish we had a quarter mile track open closer than 100 miles away. :(

I can't remember whether it was fast or slow but I do recall it was with in .1 on a few occasions. I will have to bring it to the track with me next Sunday (if the weather co-operates) and I will let you know.

I was looking at the G-Tech web site, what kind of installation do you have to do. How does it work? :drevil:

I've got the older model and basically you plug it into the accessory outlet and suction cup it to the windshield or in my case the flat and smooth area atop the center of the dash. Level it out to .00 and I'm set to go. :)

Hey thats a good time, thats 03/04 Cobra territory. Now do some mods so you can destroy them!!

G-Techs are notoriously about as accurate as a stopwatch. If you want a real accurate accelerometer you might want to invest in a Passport G-Timer.

My experience with my G-tech vs real track times are as follows.

I have always run faster at the track (E.T.) than my G-tech. But G-Tech times will always be higher as far as trap speed because of the way the speeds are calculated at the track.

But as far as E.T. the G-Tech is usually pretty accurate.

I took my GN to the 1/8 Mile drags Sunday. When I lined up at the tree I set my G-Meter (Tazzo) and raced.
here is the comparison:

Track times.

60' ET MPH
1.889 7.83 91.60 Dragstrip clocks

1.97 7.82 92.90 G-Meter (TazZ0)

Pretty **** close i'd say.

By the way after playing with my timing and fuel I was able to run a 7.34@ 93.86.
Not bad for a 231 CU Six!!
