: Factory sunroof?
Rockatansky 04-17-2005, 09:56 PM While browsing through the Holden site, I noticed that the sunroof is an option. I have a few questions:
Is it a factory option or dealer installed?
Can the sunroof parts be ordered and sent over here for installation?
If it's a factory option, don't you think they'd stick the sunroof in some of the GTOs destined for the US? It seems a bit odd that if the factory is putting the roof into the Monaro, then they would do the same for the identical roof on a the GTO. I mean, our only option over here (other than the color) is the transmission.
Who knows, maybe the sunroof option is something they are holding out until '06 to distinguish it from the '05.
forestdweller 04-17-2005, 11:07 PM FWIW, I have seen dealer installed sunroofs (or technically moonroofs) on 04 GTOs..
mldavis 04-18-2005, 12:12 AM A flip up moonroof might be an option. A sliding sunroof is out of the question for me. When I bought my GTP, I really wanted the black one with the 2-tone interior but it only came with a power sunroof. That mechanism and storage space took away nearly 2 inches of headroom and I couldn't sit in the car without either tilting the seat back to far I couldn't reach the wheel, or leaving a greasy hair oil spot on the headliner. The GTO would be the same way. No thanks!!
Rockatansky 04-18-2005, 02:42 AM Not sure about that, mldavis; check the Holden site. They do note, however, that the power roof does NOT slide back all the way, due to the sharp curve of the roof, I assume. And either you're much taller than me, or you are one long necked fella. At 5'10", I've never owned a car or truck that didn't have enough headroom. And I've owned a lot.
And forest, any dealer will do a sun/moonroof installation: they call up an aftermarket joint in the area, and a kid with a sawzall shows up and hacks into the sheetmetal. I've seen enough tragic consequences of the "dealer installed" sunroof to turn me off of requesting that option. What I'm trying to find out is whether or not the car was designed with a roof that will properly accept an integrated power 'roof, and why we don't get that option for the US version. If it was, I'd like to be able to order the "correct" parts and have a bodyshop of my choosing install it for me. Maybe.

I can understand that, the hardtop fbodies ran on the same frame as the t-topped ones, so if you take the hardtop off the t-top frame is underneath, meaning if you get a pair of t-tops, can cut the hardtop to match, you can basically convert your hardtop into a t-top car. Whether this is the same on the GTO I know not.
mldavis 04-18-2005, 08:01 AM My TransAm was a hardtop. I'm 6'4", so not much headroom. I can't tell you if a T-top would work for me in an F-body, but I doubt it. As I mentioned above, I turned down the beautiful black GTP I really wanted after trying every seat position I could get. Bought a dark blue GTP with NO sunroof.
Even on my 05 IBM, I often hit my head on the door frame while getting in/out. If they can find a way to maintain the same interior headroom, fine. If not, they can forget it. :(
formula79 06-20-2005, 10:13 PM I am 5'10, and keep my seat low, and my hair still touches the headliner in my Gran Prix occasionally. I think the GTO has a bit more headroom though.
Pickles 07-27-2005, 12:40 AM The Monaro's sunroof is not installed "on line" when the car is built. It is installed to customer order, after the car has been built, by a company owned by HSV, by the name of HBD (Holden By Design). HBD does other things as well, such as fitting upgraded brakes, stereos & other accessories, that cannot, for one reason or another, be fitted by the selling dealer.
However, a sunroof in a Monaro/GTO is not, in my opinion, such a good idea--1,it cuts down headroom, 2,it only opens about 70%, & 3, it spoils the beautiful curved roof lines of the car.
On the subject of Monaro-we've stopped making them!!- No word on GTO yet, but if you're thinking about owning one, I'd put my order in now. Cheers, Pickles.

I have a Grand Am GT and an altima with sunroofs and dont see such a big difference. I have been in both cars without a sunroof and its about the same. I think a sunroof on the GTO would be cool, and id probably have one but i dont really care, the car is fine the way it is.
